Acts 24
American Standard Version
1And after fiveG4002 daysG2250 the highG749 priestG749 AnaniasG367 cameG2597 downG2597 with certainG5100 eldersG4245, andwithan orator, oneG5100 TertullusG5061; and they informed the governorG2232 against PaulG3972. 2And when he was calledG2564, TertullusG5061 beganG757 to accuseG2723 him, sayingG3004,
Seeing that by thee we enjoy muchG4183 peaceG1515, and that by thy providence evils are corrected for this nationG1484, 3we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellentG2903 FelixG5344, with all thankfulness. 4But, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I entreat thee to hearG191 us of thy clemency a few words. 5For we have foundG2147 this manG435 a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrections among all the JewsG2453 throughout the worldG3625, and a ringleader of the sectG139 of the Nazarenes: 6who moreover assayed to profane the templeG2411: on whom alsoG2532 we laidG2902 holdG2902: 71 8from whom thou wilt be ableG1410, by examining him thyself, to take knowledge of all these thingsG3778 whereof we accuseG2723 him. 9And the JewsG2453 alsoG2532 joined in the charge, affirming that these thingsG3778 were so.
10And when the governorG2232 had beckoned unto him to speakG3004, PaulG3972 answeredG611,
Forasmuch as I knowG1987 that thou hast beenG1510 of manyG4183 yearsG2094 a judgeG2923 unto this nationG1484, I cheerfully make my defence: 11seeing that thou canst take knowledge that it isG1510 not moreG4183 than twelveG1427 daysG2250 since I wentG305 up to worshipG4352 at JerusalemG2419: 12and neither in the temple did they findG2147 me disputing with any man or stirring up a crowdG3793, nor in the synagoguesG4864, nor in the cityG4172. 13Neither can they prove to thee the thingsG3739 whereof they nowG3570 accuseG2723 me. 14But this I confessG3670 unto thee, that after the WayG3598 which they call a sectG139, so serveG3000 I the GodG2316 of our fathersG3971, believingG4100 all thingsG3778 which are accordingG2596 to the lawG3551, and which are writtenG1125 in the prophetsG4396; 15having hopeG1680 toward GodG2316, which these alsoG2532 themselves look for, that there shall beG1510 a resurrectionG386 both of the justG1342 and unjustG94. 16Herein I alsoG2532 exercise myself to have a conscienceG4893 void of offence toward GodG2316 and menG444 always. 17NowG1161 after some yearsG2094 I cameG3854 to bring almsG1654 to my nationG1484, and offeringsG4376: 18amidst which they foundG2147 me purifiedG48 in the temple, with no crowdG3793, nor yet with tumult: but there were certainG5100 JewsG2453 from AsiaG773— 19who oughtG1163 to have been here before thee, and to make accusationG2723, if they had aught against me. 20Or else let these menG3778 themselves sayG3004 what wrong-doing they foundG2147 when I stoodG2476 before the councilG4892, 21except it be for this oneG1520 voiceG5456, that I criedG2896 standingG2476 among them, Touching the resurrectionG386 of the deadG3498 I am called in question before you this dayG4594.
22But FelixG5344, having more exact knowledge concerningG4012 the WayG3598, deferred them, sayingG3004, WhenG3752 LysiasG3079 the chief captain shall comeG2597 down, I will determine your matter. 23And he gave order to the centurionG1543 that he should be keptG5083 in charge, and should have indulgence; and not to forbidG2967 any of his friends to minister unto him.
24But after certainG5100 daysG2250, FelixG5344 cameG3854 with Drusilla, his wifeG1135, who wasG1510 a Jewess, and sentG3343 for PaulG3972, and heardG191 him concerningG4012 the faithG4102 in ChristG5547 JesusG2424. 25And as he reasonedG1256 of righteousnessG1343, and self-control, and the judgmentG2917 to comeG1096, FelixG5344 was terrified, and answeredG611, GoG4198 thy way for this timeG2540; and when I have a convenient seasonG2540, I will call thee unto me. 26He hopedG1679 withal that moneyG5536 would be givenG1325 him of PaulG3972: wherefore alsoG2532 he sentG3343 for him the oftener, and communed with him. 27But when twoG1333 yearsG1333 were fulfilled, FelixG5344 was succeeded by Porcius FestusG5347; and desiringG2309 to gain favorG5485 with the JewsG2453, FelixG5344 leftG2641 PaulG3972 in bonds.
