Acts 26

American Standard Version

1And AgrippaG67 saidG3004 unto PaulG3972, Thou art permittedG2010 to speakG3004 for thyself. ThenG5119 PaulG3972 stretchedG1614 forth his handG5495, and made his defence:

2I think myself happy, kingG935 AgrippaG67, that I am to make my defence before thee this dayG4594 touching all the thingsG3956 whereof I am accused by the JewsG2453: 3especiallyG3122 because thou art expert in all customsG1485 and questionsG2213 which areG1510 among the JewsG2453: wherefore I beseech thee to hearG191 me patiently. 4My manner of life thenG3767 from my youthG3503 up, which was from the beginning among mineG1473 own nationG1484 and at JerusalemG2414, know all the JewsG2453; 5having knowledge of me from the first, if they be willingG2309 to testifyG3140, that after the straitest sectG139 of our religionG2356 I livedG2198 a PhariseeG5330. 6And nowG3568 I standG2476 here to be judgedG2919 for the hopeG1680 of the promiseG1860 made of GodG2316 unto our fathersG3962; 7unto which promise our twelve tribes, earnestly servingG3000 God nightG3571 and dayG2250, hopeG1680 to attainG2658. And concerningG4012 this hopeG1680 I am accused by the JewsG2453, O kingG935! 8WhyG5101 is it judgedG2919 incredible with you, if GodG2316 doth raiseG1453 the deadG3498? 9I verily thoughtG1380 with myself that I oughtG1163 to do manyG4183 thingsG4183 contraryG1727 to the nameG3686 of JesusG2424 of NazarethG3480. 10And this I alsoG2532 did in JerusalemG2414: and I both shut up manyG4183 of the saintsG40 in prisonsG5438, having receivedG2983 authorityG1849 from the chiefG749 priestsG749, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them. 11And punishing them oftentimes in all the synagoguesG4864, I strove to make them blasphemeG987; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecutedG1377 them evenG2532 unto foreign citiesG4172. 12Whereupon as I journeyed to DamascusG1154 with the authorityG1849 and commission of the chiefG749 priestsG749, 13at midday, O kingG935, I sawG3708 on the wayG3598 a lightG5457 from heavenG3771, above the brightness of the sunG2246, shining round about me and them that journeyed with me. 14And when we were all fallen to the earthG1093, I heardG191 a voiceG5456 sayingG3004 unto me in the HebrewG1446 languageG1258, SaulG4549, SaulG4549, whyG5101 persecutest thou me? it is hardG4642 for thee to kick against the goad. 15And I saidG3004, Who art thou, LordG2962? And the LordG2962 saidG3004, I amG1510 JesusG2424 whom thou persecutest. 16But ariseG450, and standG2476 upon thy feetG4228: for to this end have I appeared unto thee, to appointG4400 thee a minister and a witnessG3144 both of the thingsG3778 wherein thou hast seenG3708 me, and of the thingsG3778 wherein I will appear unto thee; 17delivering thee from the peopleG2992, and from the GentilesG1484, unto whom I sendG649 thee, 18to openG455 their eyesG3788, that they may turnG1994 from darknessG4655 to lightG5457 and from the powerG1849 of SatanG4567 unto GodG2316, that they may receiveG2983 remission of sinsG266 and an inheritanceG2819 among them that are sanctifiedG37 by faithG4102 in me. 19Wherefore, O kingG935 AgrippaG67, I was not disobedientG545 unto the heavenlyG3770 visionG3701: 20but declaredG518 both to them of DamascusG1154 firstG4413, and at JerusalemG2414, and throughout all the countryG5561 of Judæa, and alsoG2532 to the GentilesG1484, that they should repentG3340 and turnG1994 to GodG2316, doing worksG2041 worthyG514 of repentanceG3341. 21For this cause the JewsG2453 seized me in the temple, and assayed to kill me. 22Having thereforeG3767 obtainedG5177 the help that is from GodG2316, I standG2476 unto this dayG2250 testifyingG3143 both to smallG3398 and greatG3173, sayingG3004 nothing but what the prophetsG4396 and MosesG3475 did sayG3004 should comeG1096; 23how that the ChristG5547 must suffer, and how that he firstG4413 by the resurrectionG386 of the deadG3498 should proclaimG2605 lightG5457 both to the peopleG2992 and to the GentilesG1484.

24And as he thus made his defence, FestusG5347 saith with a loudG3173 voiceG5456, PaulG3972, thou art mad; thy muchG4183 learning is turning thee mad. 25But PaulG3972 saith, I am not mad, mostG2903 excellentG2903 FestusG5347; but speak forth words of truthG225 and soberness. 26For the kingG935 knoweth of these thingsG3778, unto whom alsoG2532 I speakG2980 freely: for I amG1510 persuadedG3982 that noneG3762 of these thingsG3778 isG1510 hidden from him; for this hath not beenG1510 done in a cornerG1137. 27KingG935 AgrippaG67, believest thou the prophetsG4396? I know that thou believest. 28And AgrippaG67 said unto PaulG3972, With but littleG3641 persuasion thou wouldest fain makeG4160 me a ChristianG5546. 29And PaulG3972 said, I would to GodG2316, that whether with littleG3641 or with much, not thou onlyG3440, but alsoG2532 all that hearG191 me this dayG4594, might becomeG1096 suchG5108 as I amG1510, except these bonds.

30And the kingG935 roseG450 up, and the governorG2232, and BerniceG959, and they that sat with them: 31and when they had withdrawn, they spake oneG3762 to another, sayingG3004, This manG444 doeth nothing worthyG514 of deathG2288 or of bonds. 32And AgrippaG67 saidG5346 unto FestusG5347, This manG444 might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealedG1941 unto Cæsar.
