Acts 15
American Standard Version
1And certainG5100 men cameG2718 downG2718 from Judæa and taughtG1321 the brethren, saying, Except ye be circumcisedG4059 after the customG1485 of MosesG3475, ye cannot be savedG4982. 2And when PaulG3972 and BarnabasG921 had no smallG3641 dissension and questioning with them, the brethren appointedG5021 that PaulG3972 and BarnabasG921, and certainG5100 otherG243 of them, should goG305 up to JerusalemG2419 unto the apostlesG652 and eldersG4245 about this question. 3They thereforeG3767, being brought on their way by the churchG1577, passedG1330 through both PhoeniciaG5403 and SamariaG4540, declaring the conversion of the GentilesG1484: and they caused greatG3173 joyG5479 unto all the brethren. 4And when they were comeG3854 to JerusalemG2419, they were receivedG3858 of the churchG1577 and the apostlesG652 and the eldersG4245, and they rehearsed all things that GodG2316 had done with them. 5But there rose up certainG5100 of the sectG139 of the PhariseesG5330 who believedG4100, sayingG3004, It is needful to circumciseG4059 them, and to chargeG3853 them to keepG5083 the lawG3551 of MosesG3475.
6And the apostlesG652 and the eldersG4245 were gatheredG4863 togetherG4863 to consider of this matterG3056. 7And when there had been muchG4183 questioning, PeterG4074 roseG450 up, and saidG3004 unto them,
Brethren, ye knowG1987 that a good while ago GodG2316 made choice among you, that by my mouthG4750 the GentilesG1484 should hearG191 the wordG3056 of the gospelG2098, and believeG4100. 8And GodG2316, who knoweth the heart, bare them witnessG3140, givingG1325 them the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, evenG2532 as he did unto us; 9and he made no distinction between us and them, cleansingG2511 their heartsG2588 by faithG4102. 10NowG3568 thereforeG3767 whyG5101 make ye trial of GodG2316, that ye should putG2007 a yokeG2218 upon the neckG5137 of the disciplesG3101 which neither our fathersG3962 nor we were ableG2480 to bearG941? 11But we believeG4100 that we shall be savedG4982 through the graceG5485 of the LordG2962 JesusG2424, in like manner as they.
12And all the multitudeG4128 kept silence; and they hearkened unto BarnabasG921 and PaulG3972 rehearsing what signsG4592 and wondersG5059 GodG2316 had wrought among the GentilesG1484 through them. 13And after they had held their peace, JamesG2385 answeredG611, sayingG3004,
Brethren, hearken unto me: 14Symeon hath rehearsed how firstG4413 GodG2316 visited the GentilesG1484, to takeG2983 out of them a peopleG2992 for his nameG3686. 15And to this agreeG4856 the wordsG3056 of the prophetsG4396; as it is writtenG1125,
19Wherefore my judgment is, that we trouble not them that from among the GentilesG1484 turnG1994 to GodG2316; 20but that we write unto them, that they abstainG568 from the pollutions of idolsG1497, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from bloodG129. 21For MosesG3475 from generationsG1074 of oldG744 hath in every cityG4172 them that preachG2784 him, being readG314 in the synagoguesG4864 every sabbathG4521.
22Then it seemedG1380 goodG1380 to the apostlesG652 and the eldersG4245, with the wholeG3650 churchG1577, to choose menG435 out of their company, and sendG3992 them to AntiochG490 with PaulG3972 and BarnabasG921; namely, JudasG2455 calledG2564 BarsabbasG923, and SilasG4609, chief menG435 among the brethren: 23and they wroteG1125 thus by them, The apostlesG652 and the eldersG4245, brethren, unto the brethren who are of the GentilesG1484 in AntiochG490 and SyriaG4947 and CiliciaG2791, greetingG5463: 24Forasmuch as we have heardG191 that certainG5100 who wentG1831 out from us have troubledG5015 you with wordsG3056, subverting your soulsG5590; to whom we gave no commandment; 25it seemedG1380 goodG1380 unto us, having comeG1096 to oneG3661 accordG3661, to choose out menG435 and sendG3992 them unto you with our belovedG27 BarnabasG921 and PaulG3972, 26menG444 that have hazarded their livesG5590 for the nameG3686 of our LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547. 27We have sentG649 thereforeG3767 JudasG2455 and SilasG4609, who themselves alsoG2532 shall tellG518 you the sameG846 things by wordG3056 of mouth. 28For it seemedG1380 goodG1380 to the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, and to us, to lay upon you no greaterG4183 burdenG922 than these necessary thingsG3778: 29that ye abstainG568 from thingsG3739 sacrificed to idols, and from bloodG129, and from thingsG3739 strangled, and from fornication; from which if ye keep yourselves, it shall be well with you. Fare ye well.
30So they, when they were dismissedG630, cameG2718 downG2718 to AntiochG490; and having gatheredG4863 the multitudeG4128 togetherG4863, they delivered the epistle. 31And when they had readG314 it, they rejoicedG5463 for the consolation. 32And JudasG2455 and SilasG4609, beingG1510 themselves alsoG2532 prophetsG4396, exhortedG3870 the brethren with manyG4183 wordsG3056, and confirmed them. 33And after they had spent some timeG5550 there, they were dismissedG630 in peaceG1515 from the brethren unto those that had sentG649 them forthG649. 341 35But PaulG3972 and BarnabasG921 tarried in AntiochG490, teachingG1321 and preaching the wordG3056 of the LordG2962, with manyG4183 othersG2087 alsoG2532.
36And after some daysG2250 PaulG3972 saidG3004 unto BarnabasG921, Let us returnG1994 nowG1161 and visitG1980 the brethren in every cityG4172 wherein we proclaimedG2605 the wordG3056 of the LordG2962, and see howG4459 they fare. 37And BarnabasG921 was minded to takeG4838 with them JohnG2491 alsoG2532, who was calledG2564 MarkG3138. 38But PaulG3972 thought not good to takeG4838 with them him who withdrew from them from PamphyliaG3828, and went not with them to the workG2041. 39And there aroseG1096 a sharp contention, so that they parted asunder oneG240 from the other, and BarnabasG921 tookG3880 MarkG3138 with him, and sailedG1602 awayG575 unto CyprusG2954: 40but PaulG3972 chose SilasG4609, and wentG1831 forthG1831, being commended by the brethren to the graceG5485 of the LordG2962. 41And he wentG1330 through SyriaG4947 and CiliciaG2791, confirming the churchesG1577.
