19And after summoningG4341twoG1417of his disciplesG3101,JohnG2491sentἔπεμψενepempsenG3992them tothe LordκύριονkurionG2962,sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, “Are You the Comingἐρχόμενος,erchomenosG2064OneG2064,orἢēG2228are we tolookπροσδοκῶμεν;¶prosdokōmenG4328forG4328anotherἄλλονallonG243?”

20When the menἄνδρεςandresG435cameΠαραγενόμενοιParagenomenoiG3854to Him, they saidλέγων·legōnG3004, “JohnἸωάννηςIōannēsG2491the BaptistβαπτιστὴςbaptistēsG910has sentἀπέστειλενapesteilenG649us to You,to askG3004, ‘Are You the Comingἐρχόμενος,erchomenosG2064OneG2064,orἢēG2228are we tolookπροσδοκῶμεν;prosdokōmenG4328forG4328anotherἄλλονallonG243?’”

21At that verytimeὥρᾳhōraG5610HecuredἐθεράπευσενetherapeusenG2323manyπολλοὺςpollousG4183peopleof diseasesνόσωνnosōnG3554andafflictionsμαστίγωνmastigōnG3148and evilπονηρῶνponērōnG4190spiritsπνευμάτωνpneumatōnG4151;and He gaveἐχαρίσατοecharisatoG5483sightβλέπειν.blepeinG991to manyπολλοῖςpolloisG4183who wereblindτυφλοῖςtuphloisG5185.

26But whatτίtiG5101did you goG1831outG1831to seeG3708?A prophetπροφήτην;prophētēnG4396?YesναὶnaiG3483,I tellλέγωlegōG3004you, and one who is moreG4053than a prophetπροφήτου.prophētouG4396.

27ThisοὗτόςhoutosG3778is the one aboutπερὶperiG4012whomοὗhouG3739it is writtenγέγραπται·gegraptaiG1125: ‘BeholdἰδοὺidouG2400,I am sendingἀποστέλλωapostellōG649My messengerἄγγελόνangelonG32aheadπρὸproG4253of You,WhoὃςhosG3739will prepareκατασκευάσειkataskeuaseiG2680Your wayὁδόνhodonG3598beforeἔμπροσθένemprosthenG1715You.’

28I sayΛέγωLegōG3004to you, amongG1722those bornγεννητοῖςgennētoisG1084of womenγυναικῶνgunaikōnG1135there is noG3762oneοὐδείςoudeisG3762greaterμείζωνmeizōnG3173than JohnἸωάννουIōannouG2491;yetδὲdeG1161the one who isleastμικρότεροςmikroterosG3398in the kingdomβασιλείᾳbasileiaG932of GodθεοῦtheouG2316is greaterμείζωνmeizōnG3173than he.”

29When allπᾶςpasG3956the peopleλαὸςlaosG2992and the taxτελῶναιtelōnaiG5057collectorsG5057heardἀκούσαςakousasG191this,they acknowledgedG1344God’sθεὸνtheonG2316justiceG1344,having been baptizedβαπτισθέντεςbaptisthentesG907withthe baptismβάπτισμαbaptismaG908of JohnἸωάννου.IōannouG2491.

30But the PhariseesΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiG5330and thelawyersνομικοὶnomikoiG3544rejectedἠθέτησανēthetēsanG114God’sθεοῦtheouG2316purposeβουλὴνboulēnG1012for themselvesἑαυτοὺςhe'autousG1438,not having been baptizedβαπτισθέντεςbaptisthentesG907by John.

31“To whatτίνιtiniG5101thenοὖνounG3767shall I compareὁμοιώσωhomoiōsōG3666the peopleἀνθρώπουςanthrōpousG444of thisταύτηςtautēsG3778generationγενεᾶςgeneasG1074,and whatτίνιtiniG5101are they likeὅμοιοι;homoioiG3664?

32They are likeὅμοιοίhomoioiG3664childrenπαιδίοιςpaidioisG3813who sitκαθημένοιςkathēmenoisG2521in the marketplaceἀγορᾷagoraG58and callπροσφωνοῦσινprosphōnousinG4377toG4377oneG240anotherG240,and sayλέγει·legeiG3004, ‘We playedG832theG832fluteG832for you, and you did not danceὠρχήσασθε·ōrchēsastheG3738;we sangG2354aG2354songG2354ofG2354mourningG2354,and you did not weepἐκλαύσατε.eklausateG2799.’

33For JohnἸωάννηςIōannēsG2491the BaptistβαπτιστὴςbaptistēsG910has comeἐλήλυθενelēluthenG2064neitherμὴmēG3361eatingἐσθίωνesthiōnG2068breadἄρτονartonG740norμήτεmēteG3383drinkingπίνωνpinōnG4095wineοἶνον,oinonG3631,and you sayλέγετε·legeteG3004, ‘He hasἔχει.echeiG2192a demonδαιμόνιονdaimonionG1140!’

34The SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of ManἀνθρώπουanthrōpouG444has comeἐλήλυθενelēluthenG2064eatingἐσθίωνesthiōnG2068and drinkingπίνων,pinōnG4095,and you sayλέγετε·legeteG3004, ‘BeholdἰδοὺidouG2400,a gluttonousφάγοςphagosG5314manἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444and aheavyG3630drinkerG3630,a friendφίλοςphilosG5384of taxτελωνῶνtelōnōnG5057collectorsG5057andsinnersἁμαρτωλῶν.hamartōlōnG268!’

35And yetwisdomσοφίαsophiaG4678is vindicatedἐδικαιώθηedikaiōthēG1344by allπάντωνpantōnG3956her childrenτέκνωνteknōnG5043.”
