14But when it was nowἬδηĒdēG2235the middleμεσούσηςmesousēsG3322of the feastἑορτῆςhe'ortēsG1859,JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424wentG305upG305into the templeG2413area, and began toteachἐδίδασκεν.edidaskenG1321.

15The JewsἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiG2453thenοὖνounG3767wereG2296astonishedG2296,sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “HowπῶςpōsG4459has thisG3778ManG3778becomeG3609learnedγράμματαgrammataG3609 G1121,not having been educatedμεμαθηκώς;¶memathēkōsG3129?”

16SoοὖνounG3767JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424answeredἈπεκρίθηApekrithēG611them and saidG3004, “My teachingδιδαχὴdidachēG1322is not My ownG1699,but His who sentπέμψαντόςpempsantosG3992Me.

17IfἐάνeanG1437anyoneτιςtisG5100is willingθέλῃthelēG2309to doποιεῖν,poieinG4160His willθέλημαthelēmaG2307,he will knowγνώσεταιgnōsetaiG1097aboutπερὶperiG4012the teachingδιδαχῆςdidachēsG1322,whetherπότερονpoteronG4220it is of GodθεοῦtheouG2316,orἢēG2228I am speakingλαλῶ.lalōG2980from MyselfG1683.

18The one who speaksλαλῶνlalōnG2980from himselfἑαυτοῦhe'autouG1438seeksζητεῖ·zēteiG2212his ownἰδίανidianG2398gloryδόξανdoxanG1391;but He who is seekingζητῶνzētōnG2212the gloryδόξανdoxanG1391of the One who sentπέμψαντοςpempsantosG3992Him, He is trueἀληθήςalēthēsG227,and there is noοὐκoukG3756unrighteousnessἀδικίαadikiaG93in Him.

19“Did MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475not giveδέδωκενdedōkenG1325you the Lawνόμον;nomonG3551, and yetnoneοὐδεὶςoudeisG3762of you carriesG4160outG4160the Lawνόμον·nomonG3551?WhyτίtiG5101are youseekingζητεῖτεzēteiteG2212to killἀποκτεῖναι;apokteinaiG615Me?”

20The crowdὄχλοςochlosG3793answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611, “You haveἔχεις·echeisG2192a demonδαιμόνιονdaimonionG1140!WhoτίςtisG5101is seekingζητεῖzēteiG2212to killἀποκτεῖναι;¶apokteinaiG615You?”

21JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424answeredἈπεκρίθηApekrithēG611them,“I didἐποίησα,epoiēsaG4160oneἓνhenG1520deedἔργονergonG2041,and you allπάντεςpantesG3956areG2296astonishedG2296.

22For thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778reasonδιὰdiaG1223MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475has givenδέδωκενdedōkenG1325you circumcisionπεριτομήν,peritomēnG4061(not that it is from MosesΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsG3475, but fromthe fathersπατέρων,paterōnG3962), and evenon a SabbathσαββάτῳsabbatōG4521you circumciseπεριτέμνετεperitemneteG4059a manἄνθρωπον.anthrōponG444.

23IfεἰeiG1487a manἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444receivesλαμβάνειlambaneiG2983circumcisionπεριτομὴνperitomēnG4061on a SabbathσαββάτῳsabbatōG4521soἵναinaG2443thatG2443the LawνόμοςnomosG3551of MosesΜωϋσέως,MōuseōsG3475will not be brokenλυθῇluthēaG3089,are you angryχολᾶτεcholateG5520at Me becauseὅτιhotiG3754I madeἐποίησαepoiēsaG4160an entireὅλονholonG3650manἄνθρωπονanthrōponG444wellὑγιῆhugiēG5199on a Sabbathσαββάτῳ;sabbatōG4521?

24Do notjudgeκρίνετεkrineteG2919by the outwardG3799appearanceG3799,but judgeκρίνετε.krineteG2919with righteousδικαίανdikaianG1342judgmentκρίσινkrisinG2920.”

25SoοὖνounG3767someτινεςtinesG5100of the peopleG2415ofG2415JerusalemἹεροσολυμιτῶν·Hi'erosolumitōnG2415were sayingἔλεγονelegonG3004, “Is thisG3778ManG3778not the one whomὃνhonG3739they are seekingζητοῦσινzētousinG2212to killἀποκτεῖναι;apokteinaiG615?

26And yetlookἴδεideG2396,He is speakingλαλεῖ,laleiG2980publiclyπαρρησίᾳparrēsiaG3954,and they are sayingλέγουσιν.legousinG3004nothingοὐδὲνoudenG3762to Him.The rulersἄρχοντεςarchontesG758do not reallyἀληθῶςalēthōsG230knowἔγνωσανegnōsanG1097that thisοὗτόςhoutosG3778is theChristχριστός;christosG5547, do they?

27HoweverἀλλὰallaG235,we knowG3609whereπόθενpothenG4159thisG3778ManτοῦτονtoutonG3778is from; but whenὅτανhotanG3752the ChristχριστὸςchristosG5547comesἔρχηται,erchētaiG2064,noG3762oneοὐδεὶςoudeisG3762knowsγινώσκειginōskeiG1097whereπόθενpothenG4159He is from.”

28ThenοὖνounG3767JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424criedG2896outG2896in the templeG2413,teachingδιδάσκωνdidaskōnG1321and sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, “You bothG2532knowG3609Me and you knowG3609whereπόθενpothenG4159I amG1510from; andI have not comeἐλήλυθα,elēluthaG2064of MyselfG1683,but He who sentπέμψαςpempsasG3992Me is trueἀληθινὸςalēthinosG228,whomὃνhonG3739you do not knowG3609.

29I do knowG3609Him, becauseὅτιhotiG3754I amεἰμι,eimiG1510from Him, andHe sentἀπέστειλεν.apesteilenG649Me.”

30SoοὖνounG3767theywere seekingἐζήτουνezētounG2212to arrestπιάσαι,piasaiG4084Him; and yetnoG3762oneοὐδεὶςoudeisG3762laidἐπέβαλενepebalenG1911a handχεῖρα,cheiraG5495on Him, becauseὅτιhotiG3754HishourὥραhōraG5610had not yetοὔπωoupōG3768comeἐληλύθειelēlutheiG2064.

31ButmanyπολλοὶpolloiG4183of the crowdὄχλουochlouG3793believedἐπίστευσανepisteusanG4100in Him; and they were sayingἔλεγονelegonG3004, “WhenὅτανhotanG3752theChristχριστὸςchristosG5547comesἔλθῃ,elthēG2064,He will not performG2038moreG4183signsσημεῖαsēmeiaG4592than those whichὧνhōnG3739thisG3778manοὗτοςhoutosG3778has doneG2038, will He?”

32The PhariseesΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiG5330heardἤκουσανēkousanG191the crowdὄχλουochlouG3793whisperingγογγύζοντοςgonguzontosG1111theseG3778thingsταῦτα,tautaG3778aboutπερὶperiG4012Him, and the chiefἀρχιερεῖςarchiereisG749priestsG749and the PhariseesΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiG5330sentἀπέστειλανapesteilanG649officersὑπηρέταςhupēretasG5257toarrestπιάσωσινpiasōsinG4084Him.

33ThereforeοὖνounG3767JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidG3004, “For a littleμικρὸνmikronG3398whileχρόνονchrononG5550longerἔτιetiG2089I amεἰμιeimiG1510going to be with you, and thenI am goingὑπάγωhupagōG5217to Him who sentπέμψαντάpempsantaG3992Me.

34You will seekζητήσετέzētēseteG2212Me, and will not findεὑρήσετέheurēseteG2147Me; and whereὅπουhopouG3699I amεἰμὶeimiG1510,you cannotδύνασθεdunastheG1410 G3756comeἐλθεῖν.¶eltheinG2064.”

35The JewsἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiG2453thenοὖνounG3767saidG3004to oneG1438anotherG1438, “WhereποῦpouG4226does thisG3778ManG3778intendμέλλειmelleiG3195to goπορεύεσθαιporeuesthaiG4198that we will not findεὑρήσομενheurēsomenG2147Him? He does not intendμέλλειmelleiG3195to goπορεύεσθαιporeuesthaiG4198tothe DispersionδιασπορὰνdiasporanG1290amongthe GreeksἙλλήνωνHellēnōnG1672,and teachδιδάσκεινdidaskeinG1321the GreeksἝλληνας;HellēnasG1672, does He?

36WhatτίςtisG5101is thisοὗτοςhoutosG3778statementλόγοςlogosG3056that He saidG3004, ‘You will seekζητήσετέzētēseteG2212Me, and will not findεὑρήσετέheurēseteG2147Me; and whereὅπουhopouG3699I amG1510,you cannotδύνασθεdunastheG1410 G3756comeἐλθεῖν;¶eltheinG2064’?”

37NowδὲdeG1161onthe lastἐσχάτῃeschatēG2078dayἡμέρᾳhēmeraG2250,the greatμεγάλῃmegalēG3173dayof the feastἑορτῆςhe'ortēsG1859,JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424stoodεἱστήκειheistēkeiG2476and criedG2896outG2896,sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, “IfἐάνeanG1437anyoneτιςtisG5100isG1372thirstyG1372,let him comeἐρχέσθωerchesthōG2064to Me and drinkπινέτω.pinetōG4095.

38The one who believesπιστεύωνpisteuōnG4100in Me,as the Scriptureγραφή,graphēG1124saidG3004, ‘From his innermostG2836beingG2836will flowῥεύσουσινrheusousinG4482riversποταμοὶpotamoiG4215oflivingζῶντος.zōntosG2198waterὕδατοςhudatosG5204.’”

39But thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778He saidG3004inG4012referenceG4012toG4012the SpiritπνεύματοςpneumatosG4151,whomὃhoG3739thoseG3588who believedπιστεύσαντεςpisteusantesG4100in Him were to receiveλαμβάνεινlambaneinG2983; forthe SpiritπνεῦμαpneumaG4151was not yetοὔπωoupōG3768given,becauseὅτιhotiG3754JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424was not yetοὐδέπωoudepōG3764glorifiedἐδοξάσθη.¶edoxasthēG1392.

40Someof the peopleὄχλουochlouG3793thereforeοὖνounG3767,after they heardἀκούσαντεςakousantesG191theseτούτωνtoutōnG3778wordsλόγωνlogōnG3056,were sayingἔλεγονelegonG3004, “ThisοὗτόςhoutosG3778trulyἀληθῶςalēthōsG230isthe Prophetπροφήτης.prophētēsG4396.”

41OthersἄλλοιalloiG243were sayingἔλεγον·elegonG3004, “ThisοὗτόςhoutosG3778is theChristχριστός·christosG5547.”But othersG3588were sayingἔλεγον·elegonG3004, “Surelyμὴ γὰρmē garG1063 G3361theChristχριστὸςchristosG5547is not comingἔρχεται;erchetaiG2064from GalileeΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasG1056, is He?

42Has the ScriptureγραφὴgraphēG1124not saidG3004that the Christχριστός;¶christosG5547comesἔρχεταιerchetaiG2064fromthe descendantsσπέρματοςspermatosG4690of DavidG1160,and from BethlehemΒηθλέεμBēthleemG965,the villageκώμηςkōmēsG2968whereὅπουhopouG3699DavidG1160was?”

43SoοὖνounG3767a dissensionΣχίσμαSchismaG4978occurredἐγένετοegenetoG1096in the crowdὄχλῳochlōG3793becauseδι᾽di᾽G1223of Him.

44AndsomeτινὲςtinesG5100of them wantedἤθελονēthelonG2309to arrestπιάσαιpiasaiG4084Him, but noG3762oneοὐδεὶςoudeisG3762laidἐπέβαλενepebalenG1911handsχεῖρας.¶cheirasG5495on Him.

47The PhariseesΦαρισαῖοι·PharisaioiG5330thenοὖνounG3767repliedἀπεκρίθησανapekrithēsanG611to them, “You have not been ledG4105astrayG4105tooκαὶkaiG2532, have you?

48Not oneτιςtisG5100ofthe rulersἀρχόντωνarchontōnG758orἢēG2228PhariseesΦαρισαίων;PharisaiōnG5330has believedἐπίστευσενepisteusenG4100in Him, has he?

51“Our LawνόμοςnomosG3551does not judgeκρίνειkrineiG2919the personἄνθρωπονanthrōponG444unlessἐὰνeanG1437 G3361it firstπρῶτονprōtonG4413hearsἀκούσῃakousēG191from him and knowsγνῷgnōG1097whatτίtiG5101he is doingποιεῖ;¶poieiG4160, does it?”

52They answeredἀπεκρίθησανapekrithēsanG611and saidG3004to him, “You are not from GalileeΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasG1056asG2532wellG2532,are you? ExamineG2038the Scriptures,and seeG3708that noοὐκoukG3756prophetπροφήτηςprophētēsG4396arisesἐγείρεται.¶egeiretaiG1453out of GalileeΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasG1056.”
