Prophecy against Babylon
1The wordH1697 whichH834 the LordH3068 spokeH1696 concerningH413 1BabylonH894, the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778, throughH3027 JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030:2“2DeclareH5046 and proclaimH8085 among the nationsH1471. ProclaimH8085 it and 3liftH5375 up a standardH5251. Do not concealH3582 it but sayH559, ‘4BabylonH894 has been capturedH3920, 5BelH1078 has beenH954 putH954 to shameH954, 6MardukH4781 has beenH2865 7shatteredH2865; Her 8imagesH6091 have beenH954 putH954 to shameH954, her idolsH1544 have beenH2865 shatteredH2865.’ 3For a nationH1471 has comeH5927 up againstH5921 her out of the 9northH6828; it will makeH7896 her landH776 10an objectH8047 of horrorH8047, and there will be 11noH3808 inhabitantH3427 in it. BothH4480 manH120 and beastH929 have wanderedH5110 off, they have goneH1980 away!
4“In thoseH1992 daysH3117 and at that timeH6256,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 will comeH935, both they and the sonsH1121 of JudahH3063 12as wellH3164; they will goH1980 along 13weepingH1058 as they goH1980, and it will be 14the LordH3068 their GodH430 they will seekH1245. 5They will 15askH7592 for the wayH1870 to ZionH6726, turning their facesH6440 16in its directionH2008; 17they 18will comeH935 that they may joinH3867 themselves to the LordH3068 in an 19everlastingH5769 covenantH1285 that will not be forgottenH7911.
6“My peopleH5971 have becomeH1961 20lostH6 sheepH6629; 21Their shepherdsH7462 have ledH8582 them astrayH8582. They have made them turnH7725 asideH7725 on the 22mountainsH2022; They have goneH1980 along from mountainH2022 to hillH1389 And have forgottenH7911 their 23restingH7258 placeH7258.7AllH3605 who cameH4672 upon them have devouredH398 them; And their adversariesH6862 have saidH559, ‘24We are not guiltyH816, InasmuchH8478H834 as they have sinnedH2398 against the LordH3068 who is the 25habitationH5116 of righteousnessH6664, Even the LordH3068, the 26hopeH4723 of their fathersH1.’
8“WanderH5110 away from the 27midstH8432 of BabylonH894 And 28goH3318 forthH3318 from the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778; Be also like maleH6260 goatsH6260 29at the headH6440 of the flockH6629.9For beholdH2009, I am going to 30arouseH5782 and bringH5927 up againstH5921 BabylonH894 A hordeH6951 of greatH1419 nationsH1471 from the landH776 of the northH6828, And they will drawH6186 up their battleH6186 linesH6186 against her; From thereH8033 she will be takenH3920 captiveH3920. Their arrowsH2671 will be like 31an expertH7919 warriorH1368 Who does not returnH7725 empty-handedH7387.103233ChaldeaH3778 will becomeH1961 plunderH7998; AllH3605 who plunderH7997 her will haveH7646 enoughH7646,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.
11“BecauseH3588 you are gladH8055, becauseH3588 you are jubilantH5937, O you who 34pillageH8154 My heritageH5159, BecauseH3588 you skipH6335 aboutH6335 35like a threshingH1758 36heiferH5697 And neighH6670 like 37stallionsH47,12Your 38motherH517 39will be greatlyH3966 ashamedH954, She who gaveH3205 you birthH3205 40will be humiliatedH2659. BeholdH2009, she will be the leastH319 of the nationsH1471, A 41wildernessH4057, a parchedH6723 landH6723 and a desertH6160.13BecauseH4480 of the indignationH7110 of the LordH3068 she will 42not be inhabitedH3427, But she will be 43completelyH3605 desolateH8077; EveryoneH3605 who passesH5674 by BabylonH894 44will be horrifiedH8074 And will hissH8319 becauseH5921 of allH3605 her woundsH4347.14DrawH6186 up your battleH6186 linesH6186 againstH5921 BabylonH894 on everyH5439 sideH5439, AllH3605 you who 45bendH1869 the bowH7198; ShootH3034 at her, do not be sparingH2550 with your arrowsH2671, For she has 46sinnedH2398 against the LordH3068.15RaiseH7321 your battleH7321 cryH7321 againstH5921 her on everyH5439 sideH5439! She has 47givenH5414 48herselfH3027 up, her pillarsH806 have fallenH5307, Her 49wallsH2346 have been tornH2040 downH2040. For thisH1931 is the 50vengeanceH5360 of the LordH3068: TakeH5358 vengeanceH5358 on her; 51As she has doneH6213 to others, so doH6213 to her.16CutH3772 offH3772 the 52sowerH2232 from BabylonH894 And the one who wieldsH8610 the sickleH4038 at the timeH6256 of harvestH7105; From beforeH6440 53the 54swordH2719 of the oppressorH3238 55They will eachH376 turnH6437 backH6437 to his own peopleH5971 And they will eachH376 fleeH5127 to his own landH776.
17“IsraelH3478 is a 56scatteredH6340 57flockH7716, the 58lionsH738 have drivenH5080 them awayH5080. The firstH7223 oneH7223 who devouredH398 him was the 59kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and thisH2088 lastH314 oneH314 who has brokenH6105 his bonesH6105 is 60NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894. 18ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: ‘BeholdH2009, I am going to punishH6485 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 and his landH776, justH3512 as I 61punishedH6485 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804. 19And I will 62bringH7725 IsraelH3478 backH7725 to his pastureH5116 and he will grazeH7462 on CarmelH3760 and BashanH1316, and his 63desireH5315 will be satisfiedH7646 in the 64hillH2022 countryH2022 of EphraimH669 and GileadH1568. 20In thoseH1992 daysH3117 and at that timeH6256,’ declaresH5002 the LordH3068, ‘searchH1245 will be madeH1245 for the iniquityH5771 of IsraelH3478, but 65thereH369 will be noneH369; and for the sinsH2403 of JudahH3063, but they will not be foundH4672; for I will pardonH5545 those 66whomH834 I leaveH7604 as a remnantH7604.’
21“AgainstH5921 the landH776 of 67MerathaimH4850, goH5927 up againstH5921 it, And againstH413 the inhabitantsH3427 of 6869PekodH6489. SlayH2717 and 70utterlyH2763 destroyH2763 them,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “And doH6213 according to allH3605 that I have commandedH6680 you.22The 71noiseH6963 of battleH4421 is in the landH776, And greatH1419 destructionH7667.23HowH349 the 72hammerH6360 of the wholeH3605 earthH776 Has been cutH1438 offH1438 and brokenH7665! HowH349 BabylonH894 has becomeH1961 An objectH8047 of horrorH8047 among the nationsH1471!24I 73setH3369 a snareH3369 for you and you were alsoH1571 74caughtH3920, O BabylonH894, While you yourselfH855 were not awareH3045; You have been foundH4672 and alsoH1571 seizedH8610 BecauseH3588 you have engagedH1624 in 75conflictH1624 with the LordH3068.”25The LordH3068 has openedH6605 His armoryH214 And has broughtH3318 forthH3318 the 76weaponsH3627 of His indignationH2195, For it is a 77workH4399 of the LordH136 78GodH3068 of hostsH6635 In the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778.26ComeH935 to her from the 79farthestH7093 borderH7093; 80OpenH6605 up her barnsH3965, PileH5549 her up likeH3644 heapsH6194 And 8182utterlyH2763 destroyH2763 her, Let nothingH408 be leftH7611 to her.2783PutH2717 allH3605 her youngH6499 bullsH6499 to the swordH2717; Let them 84goH3381 downH3381 to the slaughterH2874! WoeH1945 be upon them, for their 85dayH3117 has comeH935, The timeH6256 of their punishmentH6486.
28There is a 86soundH6963 of fugitivesH5127 and refugeesH6412 from the landH776 of BabylonH894, To declareH5046 in ZionH6726 the 87vengeanceH5360 of the LordH3068 our GodH430, VengeanceH5360 for His 88templeH1964.
29“SummonH8085 89manyH7227 againstH413 BabylonH894, AllH3605 those who 90bendH1869 the bowH7198: EncampH2583 againstH5921 her on everyH5439 sideH5439, Let there be noH408 escapeH641391. RepayH7999 her according to her workH6467; 92According to allH3605 that she has doneH6213, so doH6213 to her; For she has becomeH2102 93arrogantH2102 againstH413 the LordH3068, AgainstH413 the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478.30ThereforeH3651 her 94youngH970 menH970 will fallH5307 in her streetsH7339, And allH3605 her menH376 of warH4421 will be 9596silencedH1826 in that dayH3117,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.31“BeholdH2009, 97I am againstH413 you, O 98arrogantH2087 one,” DeclaresH5002 the LordH136 99GodH3068 of hostsH6635, “For your dayH3117 has comeH935, The timeH6256 100when I will punishH6485 you.32The 101102arrogantH2087 one will stumbleH3782 and fallH5307 With noH369 oneH369 to raiseH6965 him up; And I will 103setH3341 fireH784 to his citiesH5892 And it will devourH398 allH3605 his environsH5439.”
33ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, “The sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 are oppressedH6231, And the sonsH1121 of JudahH3063 as wellH3164; And 104allH3605 who tookH7617 them captiveH7617 have heldH2388 them fastH2388, They have refusedH3985 to letH7971 them goH7971.34Their 105RedeemerH1350 is strongH2389, 106the LordH3068 of hostsH6635 is His nameH8034; He will vigorouslyH7378 107pleadH7378 their caseH7379 SoH4616 that He may 108bringH7280 restH7280 to 109the earthH776, But turmoilH7264 to the inhabitantsH3427 of BabylonH894.35A 110swordH2719 againstH5921 the ChaldeansH3778,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “And againstH413 the inhabitantsH3427 of BabylonH894 And againstH413 her 111officialsH8269 and her 112wiseH2450 menH2450!36A swordH2719 againstH413 the 113oracleH907 priestsH907, and they will becomeH2973 foolsH2973! A swordH2719 againstH413 her 114mightyH1368 menH1368, and they will be 115116shatteredH2865!37A swordH2719 againstH413 117their 118horsesH5483 and againstH413 119their chariotsH7393 And againstH413 allH3605 the 120121foreignersH6154 whoH834 are in the midstH8432 of her, And they will becomeH1961 122womenH802! A swordH2719 againstH413 her treasuresH214, and they will be plunderedH962!38A 123124droughtH2721 on her watersH4325, and they will be driedH3001 up! For it is a landH776 of 125idolsH6456, And they are madH1984 over fearsomeH367 idols.
39“ThereforeH3651 the 126desertH6716 creaturesH6716 will liveH3427 there alongH854 with the jackalsH338; The ostrichesH3284 also will liveH3427 in it, And it will 127neverH3808 againH5750 be inhabitedH3427 Or dweltH7931 in from generationH1755 to generationH1755.40As when GodH430 overthrewH4114 128SodomH5467 And GomorrahH6017 with its neighborsH7934,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “NoH3808 manH376 will liveH3427 thereH8033, NorH3808 will any sonH1121 of manH120 resideH1481 in it.
41“BeholdH2009, a peopleH5971 is comingH935 129from the northH6828, And a greatH1419 nationH1471 and manyH7227 kingsH4428 Will be arousedH5782 from the remoteH3411 partsH3411 of the earthH776.42They 130seizeH2388 their bowH7198 and javelinH3591; They are 131cruelH394 and haveH7355 noH3808 mercyH7355. Their 132voiceH6963 roarsH1993 like the seaH3220; And they rideH7392 on 133horsesH5483, 134MarshalledH6186 like a manH376 for the battleH4421 AgainstH5921 you, O daughterH1323 of BabylonH894.43The 135kingH4428 of BabylonH894 has heardH8085 the reportH8088 about them, And his handsH3027 hangH7503 limpH7503; 136DistressH6869 has grippedH2388 him, AgonyH2427 like a woman in childbirthH3205.
44“137BeholdH2009, one will comeH5927 up like a lionH743 from the 138thicketH1347 of the JordanH3383 to 139a perenniallyH386 watered pastureH5116; for in an instantH7280 I will make them runH7323 awayH4480 from it, and whoeverH4310 is 140chosenH977 I will appointH6485 overH413 it. For whoH4310 is 141likeH3644 Me, and whoH4310 will summonH3259 Me into court? And whoH4310 thenH2088 is the shepherdH7462 whoH834 can 142standH5975 beforeH6440 Me?” 45ThereforeH3651 hearH8085 the 143planH6098 of the LordH3068 whichH834 He has plannedH3289 againstH413 BabylonH894, and His purposesH4284 whichH834 He has purposedH2803 againstH413 the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778: 144surelyH518H3808 they will dragH5498 them offH5498, even the littleH6810 onesH6810 of the flockH6629; surelyH518H3808 He will makeH8074 their 145pastureH5116 desolateH8074 becauseH5921 of them. 46At the 146shoutH6963, “BabylonH894 has been seizedH8610!” the 147earthH776 is shakenH7493, and an 148outcryH2201 is heardH8085 among the nationsH1471.
