Jeremiah 4

1If thou wilt returnH7725, O IsraelH3478, saith Jehovah, if thou wilt returnH7725 unto me, and if thou wilt put awayH5493 thine abominationsH8251 out of my sight; then shalt thou not be removedH5493; 2and thou shalt swearH7650, As Jehovah liveth, in truthH571, in justiceH4941, and in righteousnessH6666; and the nationsH1471 shall blessH1288 themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

3For thusH3541 saith Jehovah to the menH376 of JudahH3063 and to JerusalemH3389, Break up your fallow ground, and sowH2232 not among thornsH6975. 4CircumciseH4135 yourselves to Jehovah, and take awayH5493 the foreskinsH6190 of your heartH3824, ye menH376 of JudahH3063 and inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389; lestH6435 my wrathH2534 goH3318 forthH3318 like fireH784, and burnH1197 so that none can quenchH3518 it, because of the evil of your doings.

5DeclareH5046 ye in JudahH3063, and publish in JerusalemH3389; and sayH559, BlowH8628 ye the trumpetH7782 in the landH776: cry aloud and sayH559, Assemble yourselves, and let us goH935 into the fortified citiesH5892. 6SetH5975 up a standardH5251 toward ZionH6726: flee for safety, stay not; for I will bringH935 evilH7451 from the northH6828, and a greatH1419 destructionH7667. 7A lionH738 is goneH3318 up from his thicket, and a destroyerH7843 of nationsH1471; he is on his way, he is goneH3318 forthH3318 from his placeH4725, to makeH7760 thy landH776 desolate, that thy citiesH5892 be laid wasteH8047, without inhabitantH3427. 8For this girdH2296 you with sackclothH8242, lamentH5594 and wailH3213; for the fierce angerH639 of Jehovah is not turnedH7725 backH7725 from us. 9And it shall come to pass at that dayH3117, saith Jehovah, that the heartH3820 of the kingH4428 shall perishH6, and the heartH3820 of the princesH8269; and the priestsH3548 shall beH1961 astonished, and the prophetsH5030 shall wonder.

10Then saidH559 I, Ah, LordH136 Jehovah! surely thou hast greatly deceived this peopleH5971 and JerusalemH3389, sayingH559, Ye shall have peaceH7965; whereas the swordH2719 reacheth unto the lifeH5315.

11At that timeH6256 shall it be saidH559 to this peopleH5971 and to JerusalemH3389, A hot windH7307 from the bareH8205 heightsH8205 in the wildernessH4057 toward the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971, not to winnowH2219, nor to cleanse; 12a fullH4392 windH7307 from these shall comeH935 for me: nowH6258 will I alsoH1571 utter judgmentsH4941 against them. 13Behold, he shall comeH5927 up as cloudsH6051, and his chariotsH4818 shall be as the whirlwind: his horsesH5483 are swifter than eaglesH5404. WoeH188 unto us! for we are ruined. 14O JerusalemH3389, washH3526 thy heartH3820 from wickednessH205, that thou mayest be savedH3467. How long shall thine evilH7451 thoughtsH4284 lodge within thee? 15For a voiceH6963 declareth from DanH1835, and publisheth evil from the hillsH2022 of EphraimH669. 16MakeH5414 ye mention to the nationsH1471; behold, publish against JerusalemH3389, that watchers comeH935 from a far country, and giveH5414 out their voiceH6963 against the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063. 17As keepersH8104 of a fieldH7704 are they against her roundH5439 about, because she hath beenH1961 rebelliousH4784 against me, saith Jehovah. 18Thy wayH1870 and thy doings have procured these thingsH428 unto thee; this is thy wickednessH7451; for it is bitterH4751, for it reacheth unto thy heartH3820.

19My anguishH2342, my anguishH2342! I am pained at my very heartH3820; my heartH3820 is disquieted in me; I cannot hold my peace; because thou hast heardH8085, O my soulH5315, the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, the alarmH8643 of warH4421. 20DestructionH7667 upon destructionH7667 is cried; for the whole landH776 is laid waste: suddenlyH6597 are my tentsH168 destroyedH7703, and my curtainsH3407 in a momentH7281. 21How long shall I seeH7200 the standardH5251, and hearH8085 the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782? 22For my peopleH5971 are foolish, they knowH3045 me not; they are sottish children, and they have no understandingH995; they are wiseH2450 to do evilH7489, but to do goodH3190 they have no knowledge.

23I beheld the earthH776, and, lo, it was waste and void; and the heavensH8064, and they had no lightH216. 24I beheld the mountainsH2022, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hillsH1389 moved to and fro. 25I beheld, and, lo, there was no manH120, and all the birdsH5775 of the heavensH8064 were fledH5074. 26I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful field was a wildernessH4057, and all the citiesH5892 thereof were brokenH5422 downH5422 at the presenceH6440 of Jehovah, and before his fierce angerH639.

27For thusH3541 saith Jehovah, The whole landH776 shall beH1961 a desolationH8077; yet will I not makeH6213 a full end. 28For this shall the earthH776 mournH56, and the heavensH8064 above be black; because I have spokenH1696 it, I have purposed it, and I have not repentedH5162, neither will I turnH7725 backH7725 from it. 29Every cityH5892 fleeth for the noise of the horsemenH6571 and bowmen; they goH935 into the thickets, and climb up upon the rocksH3710: every cityH5892 is forsaken, and not a manH376 dwelleth therein. 30And thou, when thou art madeH6213 desolate, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with scarletH8144, though thou deckest thee with ornamentsH5716 of goldH2091, though thou enlargest thine eyesH5869 with paint, in vain dost thou makeH6213 thyself fair; thy lovers despise thee, they seekH1245 thy lifeH5315. 31For I have heardH8085 a voiceH6963 as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voiceH6963 of the daughterH1323 of ZionH6726, that gaspeth for breath, that spreadeth her handsH3709, saying, WoeH188 is me now! for my soulH5315 fainteth before the murderers.
