Mark 8:17-38
17And JesusG2424, awareG1097 of this, saidG3004 to them, “WhyG5101 do you discussG1260 the fact that you haveG2192 noG3756 breadG740? 1Do you not yetG3768 seeG3539 orG3761 understandG4920? Do you haveG2192 a 2hardenedG4456 heartG2588? 183HavingG2192 eyesG3788, do you not seeG991? And havingG2192 earsG3775, do you not hearG191? And do you not rememberG3421, 19whenG3753 I brokeG2806 4the fiveG4000 loavesG740 for the fiveG4000 thousandG4000, howG4214 manyG4214 5basketsG2894 fullG4134 of brokenG2801 piecesG2801 you pickedG142 up?” They saidG3004 to Him, “TwelveG1427.” 20“WhenG3753 I broke 6the sevenG2033 for the fourG5070 thousandG5070, howG4214 manyG4214 largeG4711 7basketsG4711 fullG4138 of brokenG2801 piecesG2801 did you pickG142 up?” And they saidG3004 to Him, “SevenG2033.” 21And He was sayingG3004 to them, “8Do you not yetG3768 understandG4920?”
22And they cameG2064 to 9BethsaidaG966. And they broughtG5342 a blindG5185 manG5185 to Jesus and imploredG3870 Him to 10touchG681 him. 23TakingG1949 the blindG5185 manG5185 by the handG5495, He 11broughtG1627 him out of the villageG2968; and after 12spittingG4429 on his eyesG3659 and 13layingG2007 His handsG5495 on him, He askedG1905 him, “Do you seeG991 anythingG5100?” 24And he 14lookedG308 up and saidG3004, “I seeG991 menG444, for 15I seeG3708 them likeG5613 treesG1186, walkingG4043 aroundG4043.” 25ThenG1534 againG3825 He laidG2007 His handsG5495 on his eyesG3788; and he lookedG1227 intentlyG1227 and was restoredG600, and began to seeG1227 everythingG537 clearlyG5081. 26And He sentG649 him to his homeG3624, sayingG3004, “Do not evenG3366 enterG1525 16the villageG2968.”
2717JesusG2424 wentG1831 out, alongG2532 with His disciplesG3101, to the villagesG2968 of 18CaesareaG2542 PhilippiG5376; and on the wayG3598 He questionedG1905 His disciplesG3101, sayingG3004 to them, “WhoG5101 do peopleG444 sayG3004 that I amG1510?” 2819They toldG3004 Him, sayingG3004, “JohnG2491 the BaptistG910; and othersG243 say ElijahG2243; but othersG243, oneG1520 of the prophetsG4396.” 29And He continued by questioningG1905 them, “But whoG5101 do you sayG3004 that I amG1510?” 20PeterG4074 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to Him, “You are 21the ChristG5547.” 30And 22He 23warnedG2008 them to tellG3004 noG3367 oneG3367 aboutG4012 Him.
3124And He beganG757 to teachG1321 them that 25the SonG5207 of ManG444 mustG1163 sufferG3958 manyG4183 thingsG4183 and be rejectedG593 by the eldersG4245 and the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the scribesG1122, and be killedG615, and afterG3326 threeG5140 daysG2250 riseG450 againG450. 32And He was statingG2980 the matterG3056 26plainlyG3954. And PeterG4074 tookG4355 Him asideG4355 and beganG757 to rebukeG2008 Him. 33But turningG1994 aroundG1994 and seeingG3708 His disciplesG3101, He rebukedG2008 PeterG4074 and saidG3004, “GetG5217 behindG3694 Me, 27SatanG4567; for you are not settingG5426 your mindG5426 on 28God’sG2316 interests, but man’sG444.”
34And He summonedG4341 the crowdG3793 with His disciplesG3101, and saidG3004 to them, “IfG1487 anyoneG5100 wishesG2309 to comeG2064 afterG3694 Me, he must denyG533 himselfG1438, and 29takeG142 up his crossG4716 and followG190 Me. 35For 30whoeverG3739G1437 wishesG2309 to saveG4982 his 31lifeG5590 will loseG622 it, but whoeverG3739G302 losesG622 his 32lifeG5590 for My sakeG1752 and the gospel’sG2098 will saveG4982 it. 36For whatG5101 does it profitG5623 a manG444 to gainG2770 the wholeG3650 worldG2889, and forfeitG2210 his soulG5590? 37For whatG5101 will a manG444 giveG1325 in exchangeG465 for his soulG5590? 38For 33whoeverG3739G1437 is ashamedG1870 of Me and My wordsG3056 in thisG3778 adulterousG3428 and sinfulG268 generationG1074, 34the SonG5207 of ManG444 will alsoG2532 be ashamedG1870 of him whenG3752 He 35comesG2064 in the gloryG1391 of His FatherG3962 with the holyG40 angelsG32.”
