13ThenG2532they sentἀποστέλλουσινapostellousinG649someτιναςtinasG5100of the PhariseesΦαρισαίωνPharisaiōnG5330andHerodiansἩρῳδιανῶνHērōdianōnG2265to Him inG2443orderG2443toG2443trapἀγρεύσωσινagreusōsinG64Him in a statementλόγῳ.logōG3056.

14They cameἐλθόντεςelthontesG2064and saidλέγουσινlegousinG3004to Him, “Teacherδιδάσκαλε,didaskaleG1320,we knowG3609that You are truthfulἀληθὴςalēthēsG227anddo not careμέλειmeleiG3199what anyoneοὐδενός·oudenosG3762thinks; for Youare not partialβλέπεις πρόσωπονblepeis prosōponG991 G4383to anyoneἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnG444,but You teachδιδάσκεις.didaskeisG1321the wayὁδὸνhodonG3598of GodθεοῦtheouG2316in truthἀληθείαςalētheiasG225. 15Are we to payδῶμενdōmenG1325,orἢēG2228not payδῶμεν;¶dōmenG1325?”But He, knowingG3609their hypocrisyὑπόκρισινhupokrisinG5272,saidG3004to them,“WhyτίtiG5101are you testingπειράζετε;peirazeteG3985Me? BringφέρετέphereteG5342Me adenariusδηνάριονdēnarionG1220to lookG3708at.”

16And they broughtἤνεγκαν.ēnegkanG5342one.And He saidλέγειlegeiG3004to them,“WhoseτίνοςtinosG5101imageεἰκὼνeikōnG1504and inscriptionἐπιγραφή;epigraphēG1923is thisαὕτηhautēG3778?”And they saidG3004to Him, “Caesar’sΚαίσαρος.KaisarosG2541.”

17And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to them, “PayἀπόδοτεapodoteG591to CaesarΚαίσαροςKaisarosG2541the things that are Caesar’sΚαίσαριKaisariG2541,and to GodθεοῦtheouG2316the things that are God’sθεῷ.theōG2316.”And they were utterlyG1569amazedG1569at Him.

18SomeSadduceesΣαδδουκαῖοιSaddoukaioiG4523(whoοἵτινεςoitinesG3748sayλέγουσινlegousinG3004that there is noμὴmēG3361resurrectionἀνάστασινanastasinG386)cameἔρχονταιerchontaiG2064to Jesus, and beganquestioningἐπηρώτωνepērōtōnG1905Him, sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004,

19“Teacherδιδάσκαλε,didaskaleG1320,MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475wroteἔγραψενegrapsenG1125for us thatifἐάνeanG1437a man’sτινοςtinosG5100brotherἀδελφὸςadelphosG80diesἀποθάνῃapothanēG599and leavesκαταλίπῃkatalipēG2641behindG2641a wifeγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135and does not leaveἀφῇaphēaG863a childτέκνονteknonG5043,his brotherἀδελφὸςadelphosG80is tomarryλάβῃlabēG2983the wifeγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135and raiseἐξαναστήσῃexanastēsēG1817upG1817childrenσπέρμαspermaG4690for his brotherἀδελφῷadelphōG80.

20There were sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033brothersἀδελφοὶadelphoiG80;and the firstπρῶτοςprōtosG4413tookἔλαβενelabenG2983a wifeγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135,and diedἀποθνῄσκωνapothnēskōnG599leavingἀφῆκενaphēkenG863noοὐκoukG3756childrenσπέρμα.spermaG4690.

21The secondδεύτεροςdeuterosG1208oneG1208marriedἔλαβενelabenG2983her, and diedἀπέθανενapethanenG599leavingG2641behindG2641noμὴmēG3361childrenσπέρμαspermaG4690;and the thirdτρίτοςtritosG5154likewiseὡσαύτως·hōsautōsG5615;

22and sothe sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033togetherleftἀφῆκανaphēkanG863noοὐκoukG3756childrenσπέρμα.spermaG4690.LastἔσχατονeschatonG2078of allπάντωνpantōnG3956the womanγυνὴgunēG1135alsoG2532diedἀπέθανεν.apethanenG599.

23In the resurrectionἀναστάσειanastaseiG386,whichτίνοςtinosG5101one’sG846wifeG1135will she be? For each ofthe sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033had her as his wife.”

24JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidἔφηephēG5346to them,“Is thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778not the reasonδιὰdiaG1223you are mistakenπλανᾶσθεplanastheG4105, that you do notunderstandG3609the ScripturesγραφὰςgraphasG1124norμηδὲmēdeG3366the powerδύναμινdunaminG1411of Godθεοῦ;theouG2316?

25For whenὅτανhotanG3752they riseἀναστῶσιν,anastōsinG450from the deadνεκρῶνnekrōnG3498,they neitherοὔτεouteG3777marryγαμοῦσινgamousinG1060norοὔτεouteG3777are givenG1061inG1061marriageγαμίζονταιgamizontaiG1061,but are likeὡςhōsG5613angelsἄγγελοιangeloiG32in heavenοὐρανοῖς.ouranoisG3772.

26ButregardingπερὶperiG4012theG3754factG3754thatG3754the deadνεκρῶνnekrōnG3498riseἐγείρονται,egeirontaiG1453,have you not readἀνέγνωτεanegnōteG314in the bookβίβλῳbiblōG976of MosesΜωϋσέωςMōuseōsG3475, in the passage about the burningbushβάτουbatouG942,howπῶςpōsG4459GodθεὸςtheosG2316spokeG3004to him, sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, ‘I am the GodθεὸςtheosG2316of AbrahamἈβραὰμAbraamG11,the GodθεὸςtheosG2316of IsaacἸσαὰκIsaakG2464,and the GodθεὸςtheosG2316of JacobἸακώβ;IakōbG2384’?

27He is not the GodθεὸςtheosG2316of the deadνεκρῶνnekrōnG3498,but of the livingζώντων·zōntōnG2198;you are greatlyπολὺpoluG4183mistakenπλανᾶσθε.¶planastheG4105.”

28OneεἷςheisG1520of the scribesγραμματέων,grammateōnG1122cameπροσελθὼνproselthōnG4334upG4334and heardἀκούσαςakousasG191them arguingσυζητούντων,suzētountōnG4802, andrecognizingG3708that He had answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611them wellκαλῶςkalōsG2573,askedἐπηρώτησενepērōtēsenG1905Him, “WhatποίαpoiaG4169commandmentἐντολὴentolēG1785is theforemostπρώτηprōtēG4413of allπάντων;pantōnG3956?”

29JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611, “TheforemostπρώτηprōtēG4413is, ‘HearἄκουεakoueG191,IsraelἸσραήλ,IsraēlG2474!The LordκύριοςkuriosG2962is our GodθεὸςtheosG2316,the LordκύριοςkuriosG2962is oneεἷςheisG1520;

30and you shall loveἀγαπήσειςagapēseisG25the LordκύριονkurionG2962your GodθεόνtheonG2316with allὅληςholēsG3650your heartκαρδίαςkardiasG2588,and with allὅληςholēsG3650your soulψυχῆςpsuchēsG5590,and with allὅληςholēsG3650your mindδιανοίαςdianoiasG1271,and with allὅληςholēsG3650your strengthἰσχύοςischuosG2479.’

32And the scribeγραμματεύς·grammateusG1122saidG3004to Him, “Wellκαλῶς,kalōsG2573said,Teacherδιδάσκαλε,didaskaleG1320;You have trulyἐπ᾽ ἀληθείαςep᾽ alētheiasG1909 G225statedG3004thatHe is OneεἷςheisG1520,and there is noοὐκoukG3756otherἄλλοςallosG243besidesπλὴνplēnG4133Him;

33and to loveἀγαπᾶνagapanG25Him with allὅληςholēsG3650the heartκαρδίαςkardiasG2588,and with allὅληςholēsG3650the understandingσυνέσεωςsuneseōsG4907,and with allὅληςholēsG3650the strengthἰσχύοςischuosG2479,and to loveἀγαπᾶνagapanG25one’s neighborπλησίονplēsionG4139as oneselfἑαυτὸνhe'autonG1438,is muchG4053moreG4053than allπάντωνpantōnG3956the burntὁλοκαυτωμάτωνholokautōmatōnG3646offeringsG3646and sacrificesθυσιῶν.thusiōnG2378.”

34When JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424sawG3708that he had answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611intelligentlyνουνεχῶςnounechōsG3562,He saidG3004to him,“You are not farμακρὰνmakranG3112from the kingdomβασιλείαςbasileiasG932of Godθεοῦ.theouG2316.” And then,noG3762oneοὐδεὶςoudeisG3762daredἐτόλμαetolmaG5111anyG3765longerG3765to questionἐπερωτῆσαι.¶eperōtēsaiG1905Him.
