Luke 20:9-26

9ThenG1161 He proceededG756 to tellG3004 theG3588 peopleG2992 thisG3778 parableG3850: “AG5100 manG444 plantedG5452 a vineyardG290, rentedG1554 it outG846 to some tenantsG1092, andG2532 went awayG589 for a longG2425 timeG5550. 10At harvest timeG2540, he sentG649 a servantG1401 toG4314 theG3588 tenantsG1092 toG2443 collectG1325G846 his share of theG3588 fruitG2590 of theG3588 vineyardG290. ButG1161 theG3588 tenantsG1092 beatG1194 the servant and sent him awayG1821G846 empty-handedG2756.

11So he sentG4369G3992 anotherG2087 servantG1401, butG1161 they beatG1194 him andG2532 treated him shamefullyG818G2548, sending him awayG1821 empty-handedG2756.

12ThenG2532 he sentG4369G3992 a thirdG5154, butG1161G2532 they woundedG5135 himG3778 and threw him outG1544.

13‘WhatG5101 shall I doG4160?’ askedG2036 theG3588 ownerG2962 of theG3588 vineyardG290. ‘I will sendG3992 myG1473 belovedG27 sonG5207. PerhapsG2481 they will respectG1788 himG3778.’

14But whenG1161 theG3588 tenantsG1092 sawG3708 the son, they discussed itG1260 amongG4314 themselvesG240 and saidG3004, ‘ThisG3778 isG1510 theG3588 heirG2818. Let us killG615 himG846, and theG3588 inheritanceG2817 will beG1096 oursG1473.’ 15SoG2532 they threwG1544 himG846 out ofG1854 theG3588 vineyardG290 and killedG615 him.

WhatG5101 thenG3767 will theG3588 ownerG2962 of theG3588 vineyardG290 doG4160 to themG846? 16He will comeG2064 andG2532 killG622 thoseG3778 tenantsG1092 andG2532 giveG1325 theG3588 vineyardG290 to othersG243.”

AndG1161 when the people heardG191 this, they saidG2036, “May such a thing never happenG3361G1096!”

17ButG1161 Jesus looked directly atG1689 themG846 and saidG2036, “ThenG3767 whatG5101 isG1510 the meaning ofG3778 that whichG3588 is writtenG1125:

‘The stoneG3037 theG3588 buildersG3618 rejectedG593has becomeG1096G1519 the cornerstoneG2776G1137’1?

18EveryoneG3956 who fallsG4098 onG1909 thisG1565 stoneG3037 will be broken to piecesG4917, butG1161 he on whomG1909G3739G302 it fallsG4098 will be crushedG3039G846.”

19When theG3588 scribesG1122 andG2532 chief priestsG749 realizedG1097 thatG3754 Jesus had spokenG2036 thisG3778 parableG3850 againstG4314 themG846, they soughtG2212 to arrestG1911G3588G5495G1909 HimG846 that veryG1722G846 hourG5610. ButG2532 they were afraidG5399 of theG3588 peopleG2992.

20SoG2532 they watched Him closelyG3906 and sentG649 spiesG1455 who pretendedG5271 to beG1510 sincereG1342. They were hopingG2443 to catchG1949 Him in HisG846 wordsG3056 in orderG5620 to hand Him overG3860G846 to theG3588 ruleG746 andG2532 authorityG1849 of theG3588 governorG2232. 21“TeacherG1320,” they inquiredG1905G846G3004, “we knowG1492 thatG3754 You speakG3004 andG2532 teachG1321 correctlyG3723. You show no partialityG3756G2983G4383 butG235 teachG1321 theG3588 wayG3598 of GodG2316 in accordance withG1909 the truthG225. 22Is it lawfulG1832 for usG1473 to payG1325 taxesG5411 to CaesarG2541 orG2228 notG3756?”

23ButG1161 Jesus saw throughG2657 theirG846 duplicityG3834 and saidG2036 toG4314 themG846, 24“ShowG1166 MeG1473 a denariusG1220.2 WhoseG5101 imageG1504 andG2532 inscriptionG1923 are on itG2192?”

“Caesar’sG2541,” they answeredG2036.

25

SoG5106 Jesus toldG2036G4314 themG846, “GiveG591 to CaesarG2541 whatG3588 is Caesar’sG2541, andG2532 to GodG2316 whatG3588 is God’sG2316.”

26AndG2532 they were unableG3756G2480 to trap Him inG1949 HisG846 wordsG4487 beforeG1726 theG3588 peopleG2992. AndG2532 amazedG2296 atG1909 HisG846 answerG612, they fell silentG4601.
