Matthew 9:1-26
1GettingG1684 into a boatG4143, Jesus crossedG1276 overG1276 the sea and cameG2064 to 1His ownG2398 cityG4172.
22And they broughtG4374 to Him a 3paralyticG3885 lyingG906 on a bedG2825. SeeingG3708 their faithG4102, JesusG2424 saidG3004 to the paralyticG3885, “4TakeG2293 courageG2293, 5sonG5043; 6your sinsG266 are forgivenG863.” 3And someG5100 of the scribesG1122 saidG3004 7to themselvesG1438, “ThisG3778 fellow 8blasphemesG987.” 4And JesusG2424 9knowingG3609 their thoughtsG1761 saidG3004, “WhyG2444 are you thinkingG1760 evilG4190 in your heartsG2588? 5WhichG5101 is easierG2123, to sayG3004, ‘10Your sinsG266 are forgivenG863,’ orG2228 to sayG3004, ‘GetG1453 up, and walkG4043’? 6But soG2443 that you may knowG3609 that 11the SonG5207 of ManG444 hasG2192 authorityG1849 on earthG1093 to forgiveG863 sinsG266”--thenG5119 He saidG3004 to the 12paralyticG3885, “GetG1453 up, pickG142 up your bedG2825 and goG5217 homeG3624.” 7And he gotG1453 up and 13wentG565 homeG3624. 8But when the crowdsG3793 sawG3708 this, they were 14awestruckG5399, and 15glorifiedG1392 GodG2316, who had givenG1325 suchG5108 authorityG1849 to menG444.
916As JesusG2424 wentG3855 on from thereG1564, He sawG3708 a manG444 calledG3004 17MatthewG3102, sittingG2521 in the taxG5058 collector’sG5058 boothG5058; and He saidG3004 to him, “18FollowG190 Me!” And he gotG450 up and followedG190 Him.
10ThenG2532 it happenedG1096 that as 19JesusG2424 was recliningG345 at the table in the houseG3614, beholdG2400, manyG4183 taxG5057 collectorsG5057 and 20sinnersG268 cameG2064 and were diningG4873 with JesusG2424 and His disciplesG3101. 11When the PhariseesG5330 sawG3708 this, they saidG3004 to His disciplesG3101, “21WhyG1223G5101 is your TeacherG1320 eatingG2068 with the taxG5057 collectorsG5057 and sinnersG268?” 12But when Jesus heardG191 this, He saidG3004, “It is not 22thoseG3588 who are healthyG2480 who needG5532 a physicianG2395, but thoseG3588 who are sickG2560. 13But goG4198 and learnG3129 2324whatG5101 this meansG1510: ‘25I desireG2309 26compassionG1656, 27and not sacrificeG2378,’ for 28I did not comeG2064 to callG2564 the righteousG1342, but sinnersG268.”
14ThenG5119 the disciplesG3101 of JohnG2491 cameG4334 to Him, askingG3004, “WhyG1223G5101 do we and 29the PhariseesG5330 fastG3522, but Your disciplesG3101 do not fastG3522?” 15And JesusG2424 saidG3004 to them, “The 30attendantsG5207 of the bridegroomG3567 cannotG1410G3361 mournG3996 as longG3745 as the bridegroomG3566 is with them, can they? But the daysG2250 will comeG2064 whenG3752 the bridegroomG3566 is takenG522 awayG522 from them, and thenG5119 they will fastG3522. 16But noG3762 oneG3762 putsG1911 31a patchG1915 of unshrunkG46 clothG4470 on an oldG3820 garmentG2440; for 32the patchG4138 pullsG142 awayG142 from the garmentG2440, and a worseG5501 tearG4978 resultsG1096. 17NorG3761 do people putG906 newG3501 wineG3631 into oldG3820 wineskinsG779; otherwiseG1490 the wineskinsG779 burstG4486, and the wineG3631 poursG1632 out and the wineskinsG779 are ruinedG622; but they putG906 newG3501 wineG3631 into freshG2537 wineskinsG779, and bothG297 are preservedG4933.”
1833While He was sayingG2980 theseG3778 thingsG3778 to them, 34a synagogue 35officialG758 cameG4334 and 3637bowedG4352 downG4352 beforeG4352 Him, and saidG3004, “My daughterG2364 has justG737 diedG5053; but comeG2064 and layG2007 Your handG5495 on her, and she will liveG2198.” 19JesusG2424 gotG1453 up and began to followG190 him, and so did His disciplesG3101.
20And a womanG1135 who had been sufferingG131 from a hemorrhageG131 for twelveG1427 yearsG2094, cameG4334 up behindG3693 Him and touchedG681 38the 39fringeG2899 of His 40cloakG2440; 21for she was sayingG3004 41to herselfG1438, “IfG1437 I onlyG3440 42touchG681 His garmentG2440, I will 43getG4982 wellG4982.” 22But JesusG2424 turningG4762 and seeingG3708 her saidG3004, “DaughterG2364, 44takeG2293 courageG2293; 45your faithG4102 has 46madeG4982 you wellG4982.” 47At onceG1565G5610 the womanG1135 was 48madeG4982 wellG4982.
23When JesusG2424 cameG2064 into the 49official’sG758 houseG3614, and sawG3708 50the flute-playersG834 and the crowdG3793 in noisyG2350 disorderG2350, 24He saidG3004, “LeaveG402; for the girlG2877 51has not diedG599, but is asleepG2518.” And they began laughingG2606 at Him. 25But 52whenG3753 the crowdG3793 had been sentG1544 out, He enteredG1525 and 53tookG2902 her by the handG5495, and the girlG2877 54gotG1453 up. 2655ThisG3778 newsG5345 spreadG1831 throughoutG1519 allG3650 that landG1093.
