John 19:23-42
23ThenG3767 1the soldiersG4757, whenG3753 they had crucifiedG4717 JesusG2424, tookG2983 His outerG2440 garmentsG2440 and madeG4160 2fourG5064 partsG3313, a partG3313 to everyG1538 soldierG4757 and also the 3tunicG5509; nowG1161 the tunicG5509 was seamlessG690, wovenG5307 4in oneG3650 pieceG3650. 24SoG3767 they saidG3004 to oneG240 anotherG240, “5Let us not tearG4977 it, but castG2975 lotsG2975 for it, to decide whoseG5101 it shall be”; 6this was to fulfillG4137 the ScriptureG1124: “They 7dividedG1266 My outerG2440 garmentsG2440 amongG1266 them, and for My clothingG2441 they castG906 8lotsG2819.” 25ThereforeG3767 the soldiersG4757 didG4160 theseG3778 thingsG3778.
9But standingG2476 by the crossG4716 of JesusG2424 were 10His motherG3384, and His mother’sG3384 sisterG79, MaryG3137 the wife of ClopasG2832, and 11MaryG3137 MagdaleneG3094. 26When JesusG2424 thenG3767 sawG3708 His motherG3384, and 12the discipleG3101 whomG3739 He lovedG25 standingG3936 nearbyG3936, He saidG3004 to His motherG3384, “13WomanG1135, beholdG2396, your sonG5207!” 27ThenG1534 He saidG3004 to the discipleG3101, “BeholdG2396, your motherG3384!” From that hourG5610 the discipleG3101 tookG2983 her into 14his ownG2398 household.
28AfterG3326 thisG3778, JesusG2424, 15knowingG3609 that allG3956 thingsG3956 had alreadyG2235 been accomplishedG5055, 16to fulfillG5048 the ScriptureG1124, saidG3004, “17I amG1372 thirstyG1372.” 29A jarG4632 fullG3324 of sourG3690 wineG3690 was standingG2749 there; soG3767 18they putG4060 a spongeG4699 fullG3324 of the sourG3690 wineG3690 upon a branch of hyssopG5301 and broughtG4374 it up to His mouthG4750. 30ThereforeG3767 whenG3753 JesusG2424 had receivedG2983 the sourG3690 wineG3690, He saidG3004, “19It is finishedG5055!” And He bowedG2827 His headG2776 and 20gaveG3860 up His spiritG4151.
31ThenG3767 the JewsG2453, becauseG1893 it was 21the dayG3904 of preparationG3904, soG2443 that 22the bodiesG4983 would not remainG3306 on the crossG4716 on the SabbathG4521 (23for that SabbathG4521 was a 24highG3173 dayG3904), askedG2065 PilateG4091 that their legsG4628 might be brokenG2608, and that they might be takenG142 awayG142. 32SoG3767 the soldiersG4757 cameG2064, and brokeG2608 the legsG4628 of the firstG4413 manG4413 and of the otherG243 who was 25crucifiedG4957 with Him; 33but comingG2064 to JesusG2424, whenG5613 they sawG3708 that He was alreadyG2235 deadG2348, they did not breakG2608 His legsG4628. 34But oneG1520 of the soldiersG4757 piercedG3572 His sideG4125 with a spearG3057, and immediatelyG2117 26bloodG129 and waterG5204 cameG1831 out. 35And he who has seenG3708 has 27testifiedG3140, and his testimonyG3140 is trueG228; and he knowsG3609 that he is tellingG3004 the truthG227, soG2443 that you alsoG2532 may believeG4100. 36For theseG3778 thingsG3778 cameG1096 to passG1096 28to fulfillG4137 the ScriptureG1124, “29Not a boneG3747 of Him shall be 30brokenG4937.” 37And againG3825 anotherG2087 ScriptureG1124 saysG3004, “31They shall lookG3708 on Him whomG3739 they piercedG1574.”
3832AfterG3326 theseG3778 thingsG3778 JosephG2501 of ArimatheaG707, beingG1510 a discipleG3101 of JesusG2424, but a 33secretG2928 one for 34fearG5401 of the JewsG2453, askedG2065 PilateG4091 that he might takeG142 awayG142 the bodyG4983 of JesusG2424; and PilateG4091 grantedG2010 permissionG2010. SoG3767 he cameG2064 and tookG142 awayG142 His bodyG4983. 3935NicodemusG3530, who had firstG4413 comeG2064 to Him by nightG3571, alsoG2532 cameG2064, 36bringingG5342 a 37mixtureG3395 of 38myrrhG4666 and aloesG250, aboutG5613 a 39hundredG1540 40poundsG3046 weight. 40SoG3767 they tookG2983 the bodyG4983 of JesusG2424 and 41boundG1210 it in 42linenG3608 wrappingsG3608 with the spicesG759, as is the burialG1779 customG1485 of the JewsG2453. 41NowG1161 in the placeG5117 whereG3699 He was crucifiedG4717 there was a gardenG2779, and in the gardenG2779 a 43newG2537 tombG3419 44in whichG3739 noG3762 oneG3762 had yetG3764 beenG1510 laidG5087. 42ThereforeG3767 becauseG1223 of the JewishG2453 dayG3904 of 45preparationG3904, sinceG3754 the tombG3419 was 46nearbyG1451, they laidG5087 JesusG2424 thereG1563.
