James 2

Darby Bible

1My brethren, do not have the faithG4102 of our LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547, [LordG2962] of gloryG1391, with respect of persons: 2for if there comeG1525 unto your synagogueG4864 a manG435 with a gold ring in splendidG2986 apparelG2066, and a poorG4434 manG435 alsoG2532 comeG1525 in in vile apparelG2066, 3and ye lookG1914 upon him who wears the splendidG2986 apparelG2066, and sayG3004, Do thou sitG2521 hereG5602 wellG2573, and sayG3004 to the poorG4434, Do thou standG2476 there, or sitG2521 hereG5602 under my footstoolG5286: 4have ye not made a difference among yourselves, and becomeG1096 judgesG2923 having evilG4190 thoughtsG1261? 5HearG191, my belovedG27 brethren: Has not 1GodG2316 chosen the poorG4434 as to the worldG2889, richG4145 in faithG4102, and heirsG2818 of the kingdomG932, which he has promisedG1861 to them that loveG25 him? 6But ye have despised the poorG4434 [manG4145]. Do not the richG4145 oppress you, and [do not] they drag you before [the] tribunals? 7And [do not] they blasphemeG987 the excellent nameG3686 which has been calledG1941 upon you? 8If indeed ye keep [the] royalG937 lawG3551 accordingG2596 to the scriptureG1124, Thou shalt loveG25 thy neighbour as thyself, ye do wellG2573. 9But if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sinG266, being convictedG1651 by the lawG3551 as transgressorsG3848. 10For whoever shall keepG5083 the wholeG3650 lawG3551 and shall offend in oneG1520 [point], he has comeG1096 under the guilt of [breaking] all. 11For he who saidG3004, Thou shalt not commitG3431 adulteryG3431, saidG3004 alsoG2532, Thou shalt not kill. NowG1161 if thou dost not commitG3431 adulteryG3431, but killest, thou art becomeG1096 transgressorG3848 of [the] lawG3551. 12So speakG2980 ye, and so act, as those that are to be judgedG2919 by [the] lawG3551 of liberty; 13for judgmentG2920 [will be] without mercyG1656 to him that has shewn no mercyG1656. MercyG1656 glories over judgmentG2920. 14What [is] the profitG3786, my brethren, if any oneG5100 sayG3004 he have faithG4102, but have not worksG2041? can faithG4102 saveG4982 him? 15Now if a brotherG80 or a sisterG79 is nakedG1131 and destitute of daily foodG5160, 16and oneG5100 from amongst you sayG3004 to them, GoG5217 in peaceG1515, be warmedG2328 and filledG5526; but giveG1325 not to them the needful things for the bodyG4983, what [is] the profitG3786? 17So alsoG2532 faithG4102, if it have not worksG2041, isG1510 deadG3498 by itself. 18But some oneG5100 will sayG3004, Thou hast faithG4102 and I have worksG2041. Shew me thy faithG4102 without worksG2041, and I from my worksG2041 will shew thee my faithG4102. 19Thou believest that 2GodG2316 isG1510 oneG1520. Thou doest wellG2573. The demonsG1140 evenG2532 believeG4100, and tremble. 20But wilt thou knowG1097, O vainG2756 manG444, that faithG4102 without worksG2041 isG1510 dead? 21Was not AbrahamG11 our fatherG3962 justifiedG1344 by worksG2041 when he had offeredG399 IsaacG2464 his sonG5207 upon the altarG2379? 22Thou seest that faithG4102 wrought with his worksG2041, and that by worksG2041 faithG4102 was perfectedG5048. 23And the scriptureG1124 was fulfilled which saysG3004, AbrahamG11 believedG4100 3GodG2316, and it was reckonedG3049 to him as righteousnessG1343, and he was calledG2564 FriendG5384 of 4GodG2316. 24Ye seeG3708 that a manG444 is justifiedG1344 on the principle of worksG2041, and not on the principle of faithG4102 onlyG3440. 25But was not in like manner alsoG2532 RahabG4460 the harlot justifiedG1344 on the principle of worksG2041, when she had received the messengersG32 and putG1544 [them] forth by another wayG3598? 26For as the bodyG4983 without a spiritG4151 isG1510 deadG3498, so alsoG2532 faithG4102 without worksG2041 isG1510 deadG3498.
