James 2
1My brethren, holdG2192 not the faithG4102 of our LordG2962 JesusG2424 ChristG5547, the LordG2962of gloryG1391, with respect of persons. 2For if there comeG1525 into your synagogueG4864 a manG435 with a gold ring, in fine clothing, and there comeG1525 in alsoG2532 a poorG4434 manG435 in vile clothing; 3and ye have regard to him that weareth the fine clothing, and sayG3004, SitG2521 thou hereG5602 in a goodG2573 place; and ye sayG3004 to the poorG4434 manG4434, StandG2476 thou there, or sitG2521 under my footstoolG5286; 4do ye not make distinctions among yourselves, and becomeG1096 judgesG2923 with evilG4190 thoughtsG1261? 5Hearken, my belovedG27 brethren; did not GodG2316 choose them that are poorG4434 as to the worldG2889 to be richG4145 in faithG4102, and heirsG2818 of the kingdomG932 which he promisedG1861 to them that loveG25 him? 6But ye have dishonoredG818 the poorG4434 manG4145. Do not the richG4145 oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats? 7Do not they blasphemeG987 the honorable nameG3686 by which ye are calledG1941? 8Howbeit if ye fulfil the royalG937 lawG3551, accordingG2596 to the scriptureG1124, Thou shalt loveG25 thy neighbor as thyself, ye do wellG2573: 9but if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sinG266, being convictedG1651 by the lawG3551 as transgressorsG3848. 10For whosoever shall keepG5083 the wholeG3650 lawG3551, and yet stumbleG4417 in oneG1520 point, he is becomeG1096 guiltyG1777 of all. 11For he that saidG3004, Do not commitG3431 adulteryG3431, saidG3004 alsoG2532, Do not kill. NowG1161 if thou dost not commitG3431 adulteryG3431, but killest, thou art becomeG1096 a transgressorG3848 of the lawG3551. 12So speakG2980 ye, and so do, as men that are to be judgedG2919 by a lawG3551 of liberty. 13For judgmentG2920 is without mercyG1656 to him that hath showed no mercyG1656: mercyG1656 glorieth against judgmentG2920.
14What doth it profitG3786, my brethren, if a man sayG3004 he hath faithG4102, but have not worksG2041? can that faithG4102 saveG4982 him? 15If a brotherG80 or sisterG79 be nakedG1131 and in lackG3007 of daily foodG5160, 16and oneG5100 of you sayG3004 unto them, GoG5217 in peaceG1515, be ye warmedG2328 and filledG5526; and yet ye giveG1325 them not the things needful to the bodyG4983; what doth it profitG3786? 17EvenG2532 so faithG4102, if it have not worksG2041, isG1510 deadG3498 in itself. 18Yea, a man will sayG3004, Thou hast faithG4102, and I have worksG2041: showG1166 me thy faithG4102 apartG5565 from thy worksG2041, and I by my worksG2041 will showG1166 thee my faithG4102. 19Thou believest that GodG2316 isG1510 oneG1520; thou doest wellG2573: the demonsG1140 alsoG2532 believeG4100, and shudder. 20But wilt thou knowG1097, O vainG2756 manG444, that faithG4102 apartG5565 from worksG2041 isG1510 barren? 21Was not AbrahamG11 our fatherG3962 justifiedG1344 by worksG2041, in that he offeredG399 up IsaacG2464 his sonG5207 upon the altarG2379? 22Thou seest that faithG4102 wrought with his worksG2041, and by worksG2041 was faithG4102 madeG5048 perfectG5048; 23and the scriptureG1124 was fulfilled which saith, And AbrahamG11 believedG4100 GodG2316, and it was reckonedG3049 unto him for righteousnessG1343; and he was calledG2564 the friendG5384 of GodG2316. 24Ye seeG3708 that by worksG2041 a manG444 is justifiedG1344, and not onlyG3440 by faithG4102. 25And in like manner was not alsoG2532 RahabG4460 the harlot justifiedG1344 by worksG2041, in that she received the messengersG32, and sentG1544 them out another wayG3598? 26For as the bodyG4983 apartG5565 from the spiritG4151 isG1510 deadG3498, evenG2532 so faithG4102 apartG5565 from worksG2041 isG1510 deadG3498.
