Ezekiel 18
Darby Bible
1And the wordH1697 of Jehovah came unto me, sayingH559, 2What mean ye, ye who use this proverbH4912 of the landH127 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, [The] fathersH1 eatH398 sourH1155 grapesH1155, and the children's teethH8127 are set on edge? 3[As] I live, saith the LordH136 Jehovah, ye shall not have any more to use this proverbH4912 in IsraelH3478. 4Behold, all the soulsH5315 are mine; as the soulH5315 of the fatherH1, so also the soulH5315 of the sonH1121 is mine: the soulH5315 that sinneth, it shall dieH4191. 5And if a manH376 beH1961 righteousH6662, and do judgmentH4941 and justiceH4941: 6— he hath not eatenH398 upon the mountainsH2022, nor liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, neither hath defiledH2930 his neighbour's wifeH802, nor come near to a womanH802 in her separation, 7and hath not oppressed any; he hath restoredH7725 to the debtor his pledgeH2258, hath not exercised robberyH1500, hath givenH5414 his breadH3899 to the hungryH7457, and coveredH3680 the nakedH5903 with a garmentH899; 8he hath not givenH5414 forth upon usury, nor takenH3947 increase; he hath withdrawn his handH3027 from unrighteousnessH5766, hath executed true judgmentH4941 between manH376 and manH376, 9hath walkedH1980 in my statutesH2708, and keptH8104 mine ordinancesH4941, to deal faithfully: he is righteousH6662, he shall certainly liveH2421, saith the LordH136 Jehovah. 10And if he have begotten a sonH1121 that is violentH6530, a shedder of bloodH1818, and that doeth only oneH259 of any of these [thingsH428], 11and that doeth not any of those [duties], but alsoH1571 hath eatenH398 upon the mountainsH2022, and defiledH2930 his neighbour's wifeH802, 12hath oppressed the poorH6041 and needyH34, exercised robberyH1500, hath not restoredH7725 the pledgeH2258, and hath liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544, committed abominationH8441, 13givenH5414 forth upon usury, and takenH3947 increase; shall he then liveH2421? He shall not liveH2421: he hath done all these abominationsH8441; he shall certainlyH4191 dieH4191; his bloodH1818 shall beH1961 upon him. 14But lo, if he have begotten a sonH1121 that seeth all his father's sinsH2403 which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like: 15— he hath not eatenH398 upon the mountainsH2022, nor liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478; he hath not defiledH2930 his neighbour's wifeH802, 16and hath not oppressed any, nor withholden the pledgeH2258, neither hath exercised robberyH1500; he hath givenH5414 his breadH3899 to the hungryH7457, and coveredH3680 the nakedH5903 with a garmentH899; 17he hath withdrawn his handH3027 from the poorH6041, hath not receivedH3947 usury nor increase, hath executed my judgmentsH4941, [and] walkedH1980 in my statutesH2708: he shall not dieH4191 for the iniquityH5771 of his fatherH1, he shall certainlyH4191 liveH2421. 18As for his fatherH1, because he practised oppressionH6233, exercised robbery upon his brotherH251, and did what was not goodH2896 among his peopleH5971, behold, he shall dieH4191 in his iniquityH5771. 19And ye sayH559, WhyH4069 doth not the sonH1121 bearH5375 the iniquityH5771 of the fatherH1? But the sonH1121 hath done judgmentH4941 and justiceH4941, hath keptH8104 all my statutesH2708, and hath done them; he shall certainly liveH2421. 20The soulH5315 that sinneth, it shall dieH4191. The sonH1121 shall not bearH5375 the iniquityH5771 of the fatherH1, neither shall the fatherH1 bearH5375 the iniquityH5771 of the sonH1121; the righteousnessH6666 of the righteousH6662 shall beH1961 upon him, and the wickednessH7564 of the wickedH7563 shall beH1961 upon him. 21And the wickedH7563, if he turnH7725 from all his sinsH2403 which he hath committed, and keepH8104 all my statutesH2708, and do judgmentH4941 and justiceH4941, he shall certainly liveH2421, he shall not dieH4191. 22None of his transgressionsH6588 which he hath committed shall be rememberedH2142 against him; in his righteousnessH6666 which he hath done shall he liveH2421. 23Have I any pleasureH2654 at all in the deathH4194 of the wickedH7563? saith the LordH136 Jehovah; is it not in his turningH7725 from his wayH1870, that he may liveH2421? 24And whenH834 the righteousH6662 turneth from his righteousnessH6666 and practiseth what is wrong, [and] doeth according to all the abominationsH8441 that the wickedH7563 doeth, shall he live? None of his righteousH6662 actsH6213 which he hath done shall be rememberedH2142: in his unfaithfulnessH4604 which he hath wrought, and in his sinH2398 which he hath sinnedH2398, in them shall he dieH4191. 25And ye sayH559, The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is not equal. HearH8085 then, houseH1004 of IsraelH3478. Is not my wayH1870 equal? are not your waysH1870 unequal? 26WhenH834 the righteousH6662 turneth awayH7725 from his righteousnessH6666, and practiseth what is wrong, and dieth for it; in his wrong that he hath done shall he dieH4191. 27And whenH834 the wickedH7563 turneth from his wickednessH7564 which he hath committed, and doeth judgmentH4941 and justiceH4941, he shall keep his soulH5315 aliveH2421. 28Because he considereth, and turneth from all his transgressionsH6588 which he hath committed, he shall certainlyH4191 liveH2421, he shall not dieH4191. 29But the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 sayH559, The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is not equal. O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, are not my waysH1870 equal? Is it not your waysH1870 that are unequal? 30ThereforeH3651 I will judgeH8199 you, houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, every oneH376 according to his waysH1870, saith the LordH136 Jehovah. ReturnH7725 ye, and turnH7725 from all your transgressionsH6588; soH3651 iniquityH5771 shall not beH1961 your snare. 31CastH7993 awayH7993 from you all your transgressionsH6588 wherewith ye have transgressedH6586, and makeH6213 you a newH2319 heartH3820 and a newH2319 spiritH7307: whyH4100 then will ye dieH4191, houseH1004 of IsraelH3478? 32For I have no pleasureH2654 in the deathH4191 of him that dieth, saith the LordH136 Jehovah; therefore turnH7725 ye and liveH2421.
