Ezekiel 18

1The wordH1697 of Jehovah came unto me again, sayingH559, 2What mean ye, that ye use this proverbH4912 concerning the landH127 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, The fathersH1 have eatenH398 sourH1155 grapesH1155, and the children’s teethH8127 are set on edge? 3As I live, saith the LordH136 Jehovah, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverbH4912 in IsraelH3478. 4Behold, all soulsH5315 are mine; as the soulH5315 of the fatherH1, so also the soulH5315 of the sonH1121 is mine: the soulH5315 that sinneth, it shall dieH4191.

5But if a manH376 beH1961 just, and do that which is lawful and rightH4941, 6and hath not eatenH398 upon the mountainsH2022, neither hath liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, neither hath defiledH2930 his neighbor’sH7453 wifeH802, neither hath come near to a womanH802 in her impurityH5079, 7and hath not wronged any, but hath restoredH7725 to the debtor his pledgeH2258, hath taken nought by robberyH1500, hath givenH5414 his breadH3899 to the hungryH7457, and hath coveredH3680 the nakedH5903 with a garmentH899; 8he that hath not givenH5414 forth upon interestH5392, neither hath takenH3947 any increase, that hath withdrawn his handH3027 from iniquity, hath executed true justiceH4941 between manH376 and manH376, 9hath walkedH1980 in my statutesH2708, and hath keptH8104 mine ordinancesH4941, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely liveH2421, saith the LordH136 Jehovah.

10If he beget a sonH1121 that is a robber, a shedder of bloodH1818, and that doeth any oneH259 of these thingsH428, 11and that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eatenH398 upon the mountainsH2022, and defiledH2930 his neighbor’sH7453 wifeH802, 12hath wronged the poorH6041 and needyH34, hath takenH5375 by robberyH1500, hath not restoredH7725 the pledgeH2258, and hath liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544, hath committed abominationH8441, 13hath givenH5414 forth upon interestH5392, and hath takenH3947 increase; shall he then liveH2421? he shall not liveH2421: he hath done all these abominationsH8441; he shall surely dieH4191; his bloodH1818 shall beH1961 upon him.

14Now, lo, if he beget a sonH1121, that seeth all his father’sH1 sinsH2403, which he hath done, and feareth, and doeth not such like; 15that hath not eatenH398 upon the mountainsH2022, neither hath liftedH5375 up his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, hath not defiledH2930 his neighbor’sH7453 wifeH802, 16neither hath wronged any, hath not taken aught to pledgeH2258, neither hath taken by robberyH1500, but hath givenH5414 his breadH3899 to the hungryH7457, and hath coveredH3680 the nakedH5903 with a garmentH899; 17that hath withdrawn his handH3027 from the poorH6041, that hath not receivedH3947 interestH5392 nor increase, hath executed mine ordinancesH4941, hath walkedH1980 in my statutesH2708; he shall not dieH4191 for the iniquityH5771 of his fatherH1, he shall surely liveH2421. 18As for his fatherH1, because he cruelly oppressedH6231, robbedH1497 his brotherH251, and did that which is not goodH2896 among his peopleH5971, behold, he shall dieH4191 in his iniquityH5771.

19Yet sayH559 ye, Wherefore doth not the sonH1121 bearH5375 the iniquityH5771 of the fatherH1? When the sonH1121 hath done that which is lawful and rightH4941, and hath keptH8104 all my statutesH2708, and hath done them, he shall surely liveH2421. 20The soulH5315 that sinneth, it shall dieH4191: the sonH1121 shall not bearH5375 the iniquityH5771 of the fatherH1, neither shall the fatherH1 bearH5375 the iniquityH5771 of the sonH1121; the righteousnessH6666 of the righteousH6662 shall beH1961 upon him, and the wickednessH7564 of the wickedH7563 shall beH1961 upon him.

21But if the wickedH7563 turnH7725 from all his sinsH2403 that he hath committed, and keepH8104 all my statutesH2708, and do that which is lawful and rightH4941, he shall surely liveH2421, he shall not dieH4191. 22None of his transgressionsH6588 that he hath committed shall be rememberedH2142 against him: in his righteousnessH6666 that he hath done he shall liveH2421. 23Have I any pleasureH2654 in the deathH4194 of the wickedH7563? saith the LordH136 Jehovah; and not rather that he should returnH7725 from his wayH1870, and liveH2421? 24But whenH834 the righteousH6662 turneth awayH7725 from his righteousnessH6666, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominationsH8441 that the wickedH7563 man doeth, shall he live? None of his righteousH6662 deeds that he hath done shall be rememberedH2142: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sinH2398 that he hath sinnedH2398, in them shall he dieH4191.

25Yet ye sayH559, The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is not equal. HearH8085 now, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478: Is not my wayH1870 equal? are not your waysH1870 unequal? 26WhenH834 the righteousH6662 man turneth awayH7725 from his righteousnessH6666, and committeth iniquity, and dieth therein; in his iniquity that he hath done shall he dieH4191. 27Again, whenH834 the wickedH7563 man turneth awayH7725 from his wickednessH7564 that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and rightH4941, he shall save his soulH5315 aliveH2421. 28Because he considereth, and turneth awayH7725 from all his transgressionsH6588 that he hath committed, he shall surely liveH2421, he shall not dieH4191. 29Yet saith the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is not equal. O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, are not my waysH1870 equal? are not your waysH1870 unequal? 30ThereforeH3651 I will judgeH8199 you, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, every oneH376 according to his waysH1870, saith the LordH136 Jehovah. ReturnH7725 ye, and turnH7725 yourselves from all your transgressionsH6588; soH3651 iniquityH5771 shall not beH1961 your ruin. 31CastH7993 awayH7993 from you all your transgressionsH6588, wherein ye have transgressedH6586; and makeH6213 you a newH2319 heartH3820 and a newH2319 spiritH7307: for whyH4100 will ye dieH4191, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478? 32For I have no pleasureH2654 in the deathH4191 of him that dieth, saith the LordH136 Jehovah: wherefore turnH7725 yourselves, and liveH2421.
