Ezekiel 17
Darby Bible
1And the wordH1697 of Jehovah came unto me, sayingH559, 2SonH1121 of manH120, put forth a riddleH2420, and speak a parableH4912 unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, 3and sayH559, ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: A greatH1419 eagleH5404 with greatH1419 wingsH3671, long-pinioned, fullH4392 of feathers, which was of divers colours, cameH935 unto LebanonH3844, and tookH3947 the highest branch of the cedarH730. 4He cropped off the topH7218 of its young shoots, and carried it into a merchants' landH776; he setH7760 it in a cityH5892 of tradersH7402. 5And he tookH3947 of the seedH2233 of the landH776, and planted it in a fruitful fieldH7704; he placed it by greatH7227 watersH4325, he setH7760 it as a willow tree. 6And it grew, and becameH1961 a spreading vineH1612 of lowH8217 statureH6967, so that its branchesH1808 should turnH6437 toward him, and the rootsH8328 thereof beH1961 under him; and it becameH1961 a vineH1612, and brought forthH7971 branchesH1808, and shot forthH7971 sprigs. 7And there wasH1961 another greatH1419 eagleH5404 with greatH1419 wingsH3671 and manyH7227 feathers; and behold, from the bedsH6170 of her plantation, this vineH1612 did bend her rootsH8328 unto him, and shot forthH7971 her branchesH1808 toward him, that he might waterH8248 it. 8It wasH1961 plantedH8362 in a goodH2896 fieldH7704 by manyH7227 watersH4325, that it might bring forth branchesH6057 and bearH5375 fruitH6529, that it might beH1961 a noble vineH1612. 9SayH559, ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: Shall it prosperH6743? Shall he not pullH5423 up its rootsH8328, and cut off its fruitH6529, that it may witherH3001? All its fresh sprouting leaves shall witherH3001, even without a greatH1419 armH2220 and manyH7227 peopleH5971 to pluck it up by its rootsH8328. 10And behold, being plantedH8362, shall it prosperH6743? shall it not utterly witherH3001 when the eastH6921 windH7307 toucheth it? It shall witherH3001 in the bedsH6170 where it grew. 11And the wordH1697 of Jehovah came unto me, sayingH559, 12SayH559 now to the rebelliousH4805 houseH1004, KnowH3045 ye not what these thingsH428 are? SayH559, Behold, the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 cameH935 to JerusalemH3389, and tookH3947 its kingH4428 and its princesH8269, and led them with him to BabylonH894. 13And he tookH3947 of the king's seedH2233, and madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with him, and broughtH935 him under an oathH423, and he tookH3947 awayH3947 the mighty of the landH776; 14that the kingdomH4467 might beH1961 abased, that it might not liftH5375 itself up, that it might keepH8104 his covenantH1285 in order to standH5975. 15But he rebelledH4775 against him in sendingH7971 his ambassadors into EgyptH4714, that they might giveH5414 him horsesH5483 and muchH7227 peopleH5971. Shall he prosperH6743? shall he escapeH4422 that doeth such thingsH428? shall he breakH6565 the covenantH1285, and yet escapeH4422? 16[As] I live, saith the LordH136 Jehovah, verily in the placeH4725 of the kingH4428 that made him kingH4428, whose oathH423 he despisedH959, and whose covenantH1285 he broke, even with him, in the midstH8432 of BabylonH894, shall he dieH4191. 17Neither shall PharaohH6547 with a mighty armyH2428 and a greatH1419 assemblage do anything for him in the warH4421, when they cast up mounds and buildH1129 forts to cutH3772 off manyH7227 personsH5315. 18He despisedH959 the oathH423, and broke the covenantH1285; and behold, he had givenH5414 his handH3027, yet hath he done all these thingsH428: he shall not escapeH4422. 19ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: [As] I live, verily, mine oathH423 which he hath despisedH959, and my covenantH1285 which he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his headH7218. 20And I will spreadH6566 my netH7568 upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare; and I will bringH935 him to BabylonH894, and will enter into judgmentH8199 with him there for his unfaithfulnessH4604 in which he hath been unfaithful against me. 21And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fallH5307 by the swordH2719, and they that remainH7604 shall be scatteredH6566 toward every windH7307; and ye shall knowH3045 that I Jehovah have spokenH1696. 22ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah: I will also takeH3947 of the highest branch of the loftyH7311 cedarH730, and will setH5414 it; I will crop off from the topH7218 of its youngH3127 shootsH3127 a tenderH7390 oneH7311, and I will plantH8362 it upon a highH1364 and eminent mountainH2022: 23upon the mountainH2022 of the heightH4791 of IsraelH3478 will I plantH8362 it; and it shall bring forth branchesH1808, and bearH5375 fruitH6529, and becomeH1961 a noble cedarH730; and under it shall dwellH7931 all birdsH6833 of every wingH3671; in the shadowH6738 of the branchesH1808 thereof shall they dwellH7931. 24And all the treesH6086 of the fieldH7704 shall knowH3045 that I Jehovah have brought down the highH1364 treeH6086, have exaltedH1361 the lowH8213 treeH6086, have driedH3001 up the green treeH6086, and madeH6213 the dryH3001 treeH6086 to flourish: I Jehovah have spokenH1696, and will do [it].
