Ezekiel 18
Revised Version 1895
1The wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 unto meH413 againH1961, sayingH559, 2WhatH4100 mean ye, that ye useH398 this proverbH4912 concerning the landH127 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559, The fathersH1 have eatenH398 sourH1155 grapesH1155, and the children’sH1121 teethH8127 are set on edge? 3As I liveH2416, saith the LordH136 GODH136, ye shall notH2088 have occasion anyH5750 moreH5750 to useH1961 this proverbH4912 in IsraelH3478. 4BeholdH2005, allH3605 soulsH5315 are mine; as the soulH5315 of the fatherH1, soH4191 also the soulH5315 of the sonH1121 is mine: the soulH5315 that sinneth, it shall dieH4191. 5But ifH3588 a manH376 be justH4941, and doH6213 that which is lawful and rightH4941, 6and hath notH3808 eatenH398 uponH413 the mountainsH2022, neitherH3808 hath liftedH5375 upH5375 his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, neitherH3808 hath defiledH2930 his neighbour’s wifeH802, neitherH3808 hath comeH7126 nearH7126 to a womanH802 in herH413 separation; 7and hath notH3808 wrongedH3238 anyH376, but hath restoredH7725 to the debtorH2326 his pledgeH2258, hath spoiled noneH3808 by violence, hath givenH5414 his breadH3899 to the hungryH7457, and hath coveredH3680 the nakedH5903 with a garmentH899; 8he that hath notH3808 givenH5414 forthH5414 uponH4941 usuryH8636, neitherH3808 hath takenH3947 anyH376 increaseH8636, that hath withdrawn his handH3027 from iniquityH5766, hath executed trueH571 judgmentH4941 betweenH996 manH376 and manH376, 9hath walkedH1980 in my statutesH2708, and hath keptH8104 my judgmentsH4941, to dealH6213 trulyH571; he is justH4941, he shall surelyH1980 liveH2421, saith the LordH136 GODH136. 10IfH1121 he begetH3205 a sonH1121 that is a robber, a shedder of bloodH1818, and that doeth anyH259 one of theseH428 things, 11and that doeth notH3808 anyH3605 of thoseH428 duties, but evenH1571 hath eatenH398 uponH413 the mountainsH2022, and defiledH2930 his neighbour’s wifeH802, 12hath wrongedH3238 the poorH6041 and needyH34, hath spoiled by violence, hath notH3808 restoredH7725 the pledgeH2258, and hath liftedH5375 upH5375 his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544, hath committedH6213 abominationH8441, 13hath givenH5414 forthH5414 uponH1961 usuryH8636, and hath takenH3947 increaseH8636: shall he then liveH2421? he shall notH3808 liveH2421: he hath doneH6213 allH3605 theseH428 abominationsH8441: he shall surelyH4191 dieH4191; his bloodH1818 shall be uponH1961 him. 14NowH2009, loH2009, ifH2009 he begetH3205 a sonH1121, that seeth allH3605 his father’sH1 sinsH2403, whichH834 he hath doneH6213, and feareth, and doth notH3808 suchH834 like, 15that hath notH3808 eatenH398 uponH5921 the mountainsH2022, neitherH3808 hath liftedH5375 upH5375 his eyesH5869 to the idolsH1544 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, hath notH3808 defiledH2930 his neighbour’s wifeH802, 16neitherH3808 hath wrongedH3238 anyH376, hath notH3808 takenH1497 aught to pledgeH2258, neitherH3808 hath spoiled by violence, but hath givenH5414 his breadH3899 to the hungryH7457, and hath coveredH3680 the nakedH5903 with a garmentH899, 17that hath withdrawn his handH3027 from the poorH6041, that hath notH3808 receivedH3947 usuryH8636 norH3808 increaseH8636, hath executedH4191 my judgmentsH4941, hath walkedH1980 in my statutesH2708; he shall notH3808 dieH4191 for the iniquityH5771 of his fatherH1, he shall surelyH4191 liveH2421. 18As for his fatherH1, becauseH3588 he cruelly oppressedH6231, spoiled his brotherH251 by violenceH6233, and didH6213 that whichH834 is notH3808 goodH2896 among his peopleH5971, beholdH2009, he shall dieH4191 in his iniquityH5771. 19Yet sayH559 ye, Wherefore doth notH3808 the sonH1121 bearH5375 the iniquityH5771 of the fatherH1? When the sonH1121 hath doneH6213 that whichH2708 is lawful and rightH4941, and hath keptH8104 allH3605 my statutesH2708, and hath doneH6213 them, he shall surelyH1121 liveH2421. 20The soulH5315 that sinneth, it shall dieH4191: the sonH1121 shall notH3808 bearH5375 the iniquityH5771 of the fatherH1, neitherH3808 shall the fatherH1 bearH5375 the iniquityH5771 of the sonH1121; the righteousnessH6666 of the righteousH6662 shall be uponH5921 him, and the wickednessH7564 of the wickedH7563 shall be uponH5921 him. 21But ifH3588 the wickedH7563 turnH7725 from allH3605 his sinsH2403 that he hath committedH6213, and keepH8104 allH3605 my statutesH2708, and doH6213 that whichH834 is lawful and rightH4941, he shall surelyH3588 liveH2421, he shall notH3808 dieH4191. 22NoneH3808 of his transgressionsH6588 that he hath committedH6213 shall be rememberedH2142 againstH3605 him: in his righteousnessH6666 that he hath doneH6213 he shall liveH2421. 23Have I anyH3808 pleasureH2654 in the deathH4194 of the wickedH7563? saith the LordH136 GODH136: and notH3808 ratherH3808 that he should returnH7725 from his wayH1870, and liveH2421? 24But when the righteousH6662 turneth awayH7725 from his righteousnessH6666, and committeth iniquityH5766, and doeth according to allH3605 the abominationsH8441 that the wickedH7563 manH7563 doeth, shall he live? NoneH3808 of his righteousH6662 deedsH6666 that he hath doneH6213 shall be rememberedH2142: in his trespassH4604 that he hath trespassed, and in his sinH2398 that he hath sinnedH2398, in them shall he dieH4191. 25Yet ye sayH559, The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is notH3808 equal. HearH8085 nowH4994, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478: Is notH3808 my wayH1870 equal? are notH3808 your waysH1870 unequal? 26When the righteousH6662 manH6662 turneth awayH7725 from his righteousnessH6666, and committeth iniquityH5766, and dieth therein; in his iniquityH5766 that he hath doneH6213 shall he dieH4191. 27AgainH7725, when the wickedH7563 manH7563 turneth awayH7725 from his wickednessH7564 that he hath committedH6213, and doeth that whichH834 is lawful and rightH4941, he shall saveH5315 his soulH5315 aliveH2421. 28BecauseH834 he considereth, and turneth awayH7725 from allH3605 his transgressionsH6588 that he hath committedH6213, he shall surelyH4191 liveH2421, he shall notH3808 dieH4191. 29Yet saith the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, The wayH1870 of the LordH136 is notH3808 equal. O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, are notH3808 my waysH1870 equal? are notH3808 your waysH1870 unequal? 30Therefore I will judgeH8199 youH3605, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, everyH3605 one accordingH376 to his waysH1870, saith the LordH136 GODH136. ReturnH7725 ye, and turnH7725 yourselves from allH3605 your transgressionsH6588; soH3651 iniquityH5771 shall notH3808 be your ruin. 31CastH7993 awayH7993 from youH834 allH3605 your transgressionsH6588, whereto ye have transgressedH6586; and makeH6213 youH834 a newH2319 heartH3820 and a newH2319 spiritH7307: for whyH4100 will ye dieH4191, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478? 32For I have noH3808 pleasureH2654 in the deathH4191 of him that dieth, saith the LordH136 GODH136: wherefore turnH7725 yourselves, and liveH2421.
