Isaiah 57

American Standard Version

1The righteousH6662 perisheth, and no manH376 layeth it to heartH3820; and merciful menH376 are taken away, none considering that the righteousH6662 is taken away from the evilH7451 to come. 2He entereth into peaceH7965; they restH5117 in their bedsH4904, each one that walketh in his uprightness.

3But drawH7126 near hither, ye sonsH1121 of the sorceress, the seedH2233 of the adultererH5003 and the harlot. 4Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom makeH7337 ye a wideH7337 mouthH6310, and put out the tongueH3956? are ye not childrenH3206 of transgressionH6588, a seedH2233 of falsehoodH8267, 5ye that inflame yourselves among the oaks, under every green treeH6086; that slay the childrenH3206 in the valleys, under the cleftsH5585 of the rocksH5553? 6Among the smooth stones of the valley is thy portionH2506; they, they are thy lotH1486; even to them hast thou pouredH8210 a drink-offering, thou hast offeredH5927 an oblation. Shall I be appeased for these thingsH428? 7Upon a highH1364 and lofty mountainH2022 hast thou setH7760 thy bedH4904; thither alsoH1571 wentest thou up to offerH5927 sacrificeH2077. 8And behind the doorsH1817 and the posts hast thou setH7760 up thy memorialH2146: for thou hast uncoveredH1540 thyself to another than me, and art goneH5927 up; thou hast enlargedH7337 thy bedH4904, and madeH3772 thee a covenant with them: thou lovedst their bedH4904 where thou sawest it. 9And thou wentest to the kingH4428 with oilH8081, and didst increaseH7235 thy perfumes, and didst sendH7971 thine ambassadors far off, and didst debase thyself even unto SheolH7585. 10Thou wast weariedH3021 with the length of thy wayH1870; yet saidst thou not, It is in vain: thou didst findH4672 a quickening of thy strength; thereforeH3651 thou wast not faint.

11And of whom hast thou been afraidH3372 and in fearH3372, that thou liest, and hast not rememberedH2142 me, nor laid it to thy heartH3820? have not I held my peace even of longH5769 time, and thou fearest me not? 12I will declareH5046 thy righteousnessH6666; and as for thy worksH4639, they shall not profitH3276 thee. 13When thou criest, let them that thou hast gathered deliverH5337 thee; but the windH7307 shall takeH3947 them, a breathH7307 shall carryH5375 them all awayH5375: but he that taketh refugeH2620 in me shall possessH3423 the landH776, and shall inheritH5157 my holyH6944 mountainH2022.

14And he will sayH559, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the wayH1870, takeH7311 up the stumbling-block out of the wayH1870 of my peopleH5971. 15For thusH3541 saith the highH4791 and loftyH7311 OneH6918 that inhabiteth eternity, whose nameH8034 is HolyH6918: I dwellH7931 in the highH4791 and holyH6918 place, with him also that is of a contriteH1792 and humble spiritH7307, to revive the spiritH7307 of the humble, and to revive the heartH3820 of the contriteH1792. 16For I will not contendH7378 for everH5769, neither will I be always wroth; for the spiritH7307 would faint before me, and the souls that I have madeH6213. 17For the iniquityH5771 of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him; I hidH5641 my face and was wroth; and he went on backsliding in the wayH1870 of his heartH3820. 18I have seenH7200 his waysH1870, and will healH7495 him: I will leadH5148 him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mournersH57. 19I createH1254 the fruit of the lipsH8193: PeaceH7965, peaceH7965, to him that is farH7350 off and to him that is near, saith Jehovah; and I will healH7495 him. 20But the wickedH7563 are like the troubled seaH3220; for it cannot rest, and its watersH4325 cast up mire and dirt. 21There is no peaceH7965, saith my GodH430, to the wickedH7563.
