Isaiah 41

American Standard Version

1Keep silence before me, O islandsH339; and let the peoplesH3816 renew their strengthH3581: let them come near; thenH227 let them speakH1696; let us come near togetherH3162 to judgmentH4941. 2Who hath raised up one from the eastH4217, whom he calleth in righteousnessH6664 to his footH7272? he giveth nationsH1471 before him, and maketh him ruleH7287 over kingsH4428; he giveth them as the dustH6083 to his swordH2719, as the drivenH5086 stubbleH7179 to his bowH7198. 3He pursueth them, and passeth on safely, even by a wayH734 that he had not goneH935 with his feetH7272. 4Who hath wrought and done it, callingH7121 the generationsH1755 from the beginning? I, Jehovah, the firstH7223, and with the lastH314, I am he. 5The isles have seenH7200, and fearH3372; the endsH7098 of the earthH776 trembleH2729; they drawH7126 near, and come. 6They helpH5826 every oneH376 his neighborH7453; and every oneH376 saith to his brotherH251, Be of good courage. 7So the carpenter encourageth the goldsmithH6884, and he that smootheth with the hammerH6360 him that smiteth the anvil, sayingH559 of the soldering, It is goodH2896; and he fasteneth it with nailsH4548, that it should not be moved.

8But thou, IsraelH3478, my servantH5650, JacobH3290 whom I have chosenH977, the seedH2233 of AbrahamH85 my friendH157, 9thou whom I have takenH2388 holdH2388 of from the endsH7098 of the earthH776, and calledH7121 from the corners thereof, and saidH559 unto thee, Thou art my servantH5650, I have chosenH977 thee and not cast thee away; 10fearH3372 thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy GodH430; I will strengthenH553 thee; yea, I will helpH5826 thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the rightH3225 handH3225 of my righteousnessH6664. 11Behold, all they that are incensed against thee shall beH1961 putH954 to shameH954 and confounded: they that strive with thee shall beH1961 as nothingH369, and shall perishH6. 12Thou shalt seekH1245 them, and shalt not findH4672 them, even them that contend with thee: they that warH4421 against thee shall beH1961 as nothing, and as a thing of nought. 13For I, Jehovah thy GodH430, will holdH2388 thy rightH3225 handH3225, sayingH559 unto thee, FearH3372 not; I will helpH5826 thee. 14FearH3372 not, thou worm JacobH3290, and ye men of IsraelH3478; I will helpH5826 thee, saith Jehovah, and thy RedeemerH1350 is the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478. 15Behold, I have madeH7760 thee to be a newH2319 sharp threshingH1758 instrument having teeth; thou shalt threshH1758 the mountainsH2022, and beat them small, and shalt makeH7760 the hillsH1389 as chaffH4671. 16Thou shalt winnowH2219 them, and the windH7307 shall carryH5375 them awayH5375, and the whirlwind shall scatterH2219 them; and thou shalt rejoiceH1523 in Jehovah, thou shalt glory in the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478.

17The poorH6041 and needyH34 seekH1245 waterH4325, and there is none, and their tongueH3956 faileth for thirstH6772; I, Jehovah, will answerH6030 them, I, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, will not forsakeH5800 them. 18I will openH6605 riversH5104 on the bareH8205 heightsH8205, and fountains in the midstH8432 of the valleysH1237; I will makeH7760 the wildernessH4057 a poolH98 of waterH4325, and the dryH6723 landH776 springsH4599 of waterH4325. 19I will putH5414 in the wildernessH4057 the cedarH730, the acaciaH7848, and the myrtleH1918, and the oil-tree; I will setH7760 in the desertH6160 the fir-tree, the pine, and the box-tree togetherH3162: 20that they may seeH7200, and knowH3045, and considerH7200, and understand togetherH3162, that the handH3027 of Jehovah hath done this, and the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478 hath createdH1254 it.

21Produce your causeH7379, saith Jehovah; bringH7126 forth your strong reasons, saith the KingH4428 of JacobH3290. 22Let them bringH935 forth, and declareH5046 unto us what shall happen: declareH5046 ye the formerH7223 thingsH7223, what they are, that we may consider them, and knowH3045 the latterH319 endH319 of them; or show us thingsH7223 to comeH935. 23DeclareH5046 the thingsH857 that are to comeH857 hereafter, that we may knowH3045 that ye are godsH430: yea, do goodH3190, or do evilH7489, that we may be dismayed, and behold it togetherH3162. 24Behold, ye are of nothingH369, and your workH6467 is of nought; an abominationH8441 is he that chooseth you.

25I have raised up one from the northH6828, and he is comeH935; from the rising of the sunH8121 one that calleth upon my nameH8034: and he shall comeH935 upon rulers as upon mortar, and as the potterH3335 treadeth clayH2916. 26Who hath declaredH5046 it from the beginning, that we may knowH3045? and beforetime, that we may sayH559, He is right? yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that showeth, yea, there is none that heareth your wordsH561. 27I am the firstH7223 that saith unto ZionH6726, Behold, behold them; and I will giveH5414 to JerusalemH3389 oneH7223 that bringeth good tidings. 28And when I lookH7200, there is no manH376: even among them there is no counsellor, that, when I askH7592 of them, can answer a wordH1697. 29Behold, all of them, their worksH4639 are vanity and nought; their molten images are windH7307 and confusion.
