Isaiah 21
American Standard Version
1The burdenH4853 of the wildernessH4057 of the seaH3220.
As whirlwinds in the SouthH5045 sweep through, it cometh from the wildernessH4057, from a terrible landH776. 2A grievous visionH2380 is declaredH5046 unto me; the treacherousH898 man dealeth treacherouslyH898, and the destroyerH7703 destroyeth. GoH5927 up, O ElamH5867; besiege, O MediaH4074; all the sighingH585 thereof have I made to ceaseH7673. 3ThereforeH3651 are my loinsH4975 filledH4390 with anguishH2479; pangs have takenH270 holdH270 upon me, as the pangs of a woman in travail: I am pained soH3651 that I cannot hearH8085; I am dismayedH926 soH3651 that I cannot seeH7200. 4My heartH3824 fluttereth, horror hath affrighted me; the twilightH5399 that I desired hath been turned into trembling unto me. 5They prepareH6186 the tableH7979, they setH6965 the watch, they eatH398, they drinkH8354: riseH6965 up, ye princesH8269, anointH4886 the shieldH4043. 6For thusH3541 hath the LordH136 saidH559 unto me, Go, setH5975 a watchmanH6822; let him declareH5046 what he seeth: 7and when he seeth a troop, horsemenH6571 in pairsH6776, a troop of asses, a troop of camelsH1581, he shall hearken diligently with muchH7227 heed. 8And he cried as a lionH738: O LordH136, I standH5975 continuallyH8548 upon the watch-tower in the day-time, and am setH5324 in my ward whole nightsH3915; 9and, behold, hereH2009 cometh a troop of menH376, horsemenH6571 in pairsH6776. And he answered and saidH559, FallenH5307, fallenH5307 is BabylonH894; and all the graven images of her godsH430 are brokenH7665 unto the groundH776.
10O thou my threshingH1637, and the grain of my floorH1637! that which I have heardH8085 from Jehovah of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, have I declaredH5046 unto you.
11The burdenH4853 of DumahH1746.
One calleth unto me out of SeirH8165, WatchmanH8104, what of the nightH3915? WatchmanH8104, what of the nightH3915? 12The watchmanH8104 saidH559, The morningH1242 cometh, and alsoH1571 the nightH3915: if ye will inquire, inquire ye: turnH7725 ye, comeH857.
13The burdenH4853 upon ArabiaH6152.
In the forestH3293 in ArabiaH6152 shall ye lodge, O ye caravans of Dedanites. 14Unto him that was thirstyH6771 they brought waterH4325; the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 of TemaH8485 did meetH6923 the fugitivesH5074 with their breadH3899. 15For they fledH5074 awayH5074 from the swordsH2719, from the drawn swordH2719, and from the bentH1869 bowH7198, and from the grievousness of warH4421. 16For thusH3541 hath the LordH136 saidH559 unto me, Within a yearH8141, according to the yearsH8141 of a hireling, all the gloryH3519 of KedarH6938 shall failH3615; 17and the residue of the numberH4557 of the archers, the mightyH1368 menH1368 of the children of KedarH6938, shall be few; for Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, hath spokenH1696 it.
