Isaiah 44

American Standard Version

1Yet nowH6258 hearH8085, O JacobH3290 my servantH5650, and IsraelH3478, who I have chosenH977: 2ThusH3541 saith Jehovah that madeH6213 thee, and formedH3335 thee from the wombH990, who will helpH5826 thee: FearH3372 not, O JacobH3290 my servantH5650; and thou, JeshurunH3484, whom I have chosenH977. 3For I will pourH3332 waterH4325 upon him that is thirstyH6771, and streamsH5140 upon the dryH3004 groundH3004; I will pourH3332 my SpiritH7307 upon thy seedH2233, and my blessingH1293 upon thine offspringH2233: 4and they shall springH6779 up among the grassH2682, as willows by the watercourses. 5OneH2088 shall sayH559, I am Jehovah’s; and another shall callH7121 himself by the nameH8034 of JacobH3290; and another shall subscribe with his handH3027 unto Jehovah, and surname himself by the nameH8034 of IsraelH3478.

6ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the KingH4428 of IsraelH3478, and his RedeemerH1350, Jehovah of hostsH6635: I am the firstH7223, and I am the lastH314; and besides me there is no GodH430. 7And who, as I, shall callH7121, and shall declareH5046 it, and setH7760 it in order for me, since I established the ancient peopleH5971? and the thingsH857 that are comingH935, and that shall comeH935 to pass, let them declareH5046. 8FearH6342 ye not, neither be afraidH6342: have I not declaredH5046 unto thee of old, and showed it? and ye are my witnessesH5707. Is there a GodH433 besides me? yea, there is no RockH6697; I knowH3045 not any.

9They that fashion a graven imageH6459 are all of them vanity; and the things that they delight in shall not profitH3276; and their own witnessesH5707 seeH7200 not, nor knowH3045: that they may be putH954 to shameH954. 10Who hath fashioned a godH410, or molten an imageH6459 that is profitable for nothing? 11Behold, all his fellows shall be putH954 to shameH954; and the workmen, they are of menH120: let them all be gatheredH6908 togetherH3162, let them standH5975 up; they shall fearH6342, they shall be putH954 to shameH954 togetherH3162.

12The smithmakethan axeH1270, and worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammersH4717, and worketh it with his strong armH2220: yea, he is hungryH7456, and his strengthH2220 faileth; he drinketh no waterH4325, and is faint. 13The carpenter stretcheth out a line; he marketh it out with a pencil; he shapeth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compasses, and shapeth it after the figure of a manH376, according to the beautyH8597 of a manH376, to dwellH3427 in a houseH1004. 14He heweth him downH3772 cedarsH730, and taketh the holm-tree and the oakH437, and strengtheneth for himself one among the treesH6086 of the forestH3293: he planteth a fir-tree, and the rainH1653 doth nourish it. 15Then shall it beH1961 for a manH120 to burnH1197; and he taketh thereof, and warmeth himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh breadH3899: yea, he maketh a godH410, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven imageH6459, and falleth downH7812 thereto. 16He burneth part thereof in the fireH784; with part thereof he eateth fleshH1320; he roasteth roastH6748, and is satisfiedH7646; yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, AhaH1889, I am warmH2552, I have seenH7200 the fireH784. 17And the residue thereof he maketh a godH410, even his graven imageH6459; he falleth downH7812 unto it and worshippeth, and prayeth unto it, and saith, DeliverH5337 me; for thou art my godH410.

18They knowH3045 not, neither do they considerH7200: for he hath shut their eyesH5869, that they cannot seeH7200; and their heartsH3820, that they cannot understandH995. 19And none calleth to mind, neither is there knowledgeH1847 nor understandingH8394 to sayH559, I have burnedH8313 part of it in the fireH784; yea, alsoH637 I have bakedH644 breadH3899 upon the coalsH1513 thereof; I have roasted fleshH1320 and eatenH398 it: and shall I makeH6213 the residue thereof an abominationH8441? shall I fall down to the stock of a treeH6086? 20He feedeth on ashesH665; a deceived heartH3820 hath turnedH5186 him asideH5186; and he cannot deliverH5337 his soulH5315, nor sayH559, Is there not a lieH8267 in my rightH3225 handH3225?

21RememberH2142 these thingsH428, O JacobH3290, and IsraelH3478; for thou art my servantH5650: I have formedH3335 thee; thou art my servantH5650: O IsraelH3478, thou shalt not be forgottenH5382 of me. 22I have blotted out, as a thick cloudH6051, thy transgressionsH6588, and, as a cloudH6051, thy sinsH2403: returnH7725 unto me; for I have redeemedH1350 thee. 23SingH7442, O ye heavensH8064, for Jehovah hath done it; shoutH7321, ye lower partsH8482 of the earthH776; breakH6476 forthH6476 into singing, ye mountainsH2022, O forestH3293, and every treeH6086 therein: for Jehovah hath redeemedH1350 JacobH3290, and will glorifyH6286 himself in IsraelH3478.

24ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, thy RedeemerH1350, and he that formedH3335 thee from the wombH990: I am Jehovah, that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavensH8064 aloneH905; that spreadeth abroad the earthH776 (who is with me?); 25that frustrateth the signsH226 of the liars, and maketh divinersH7080 mad; that turneth wiseH2450 men backwardH268, and maketh their knowledgeH1847 foolishH5528; 26that confirmeth the wordH1697 of his servantH5650, and performeth the counselH6098 of his messengersH4397; that saith of JerusalemH3389, She shall be inhabitedH3427; and of the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, They shall be builtH1129, and I will raiseH6965 up the wasteH2723 placesH2723 thereof; 27that saith to the deep, Be dryH3001, and I will dryH3001 up thy riversH5104; 28That saith of CyrusH3566, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasureH2656, even sayingH559 of JerusalemH3389, She shall be builtH1129; and of the templeH1964, Thy foundation shall be laid.
