Isaiah 19

American Standard Version

1The burdenH4853 of EgyptH4714.

Behold, Jehovah rideth upon a swiftH7031 cloudH5645, and cometh unto EgyptH4714: and the idolsH457 of EgyptH4714 shall tremble at his presenceH6440; and the heartH3824 of EgyptH4714 shall meltH4549 in the midstH7130 of it. 2And I will stir up the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fightH3898 every oneH376 against his brotherH251, and every oneH376 against his neighborH7453; cityH5892 against cityH5892, and kingdomH4467 against kingdomH4467. 3And the spiritH7307 of EgyptH4714 shall fail in the midstH7130 of it; and I will destroy the counselH6098 thereof: and they shall seekH1875 unto the idolsH457, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spiritsH7307, and to the wizards. 4And I will give over the Egyptians into the handH3027 of a cruel lord; and a fierceH5794 kingH4428 shall ruleH4910 over them, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635.

5And the watersH4325 shall fail from the seaH3220, and the riverH5104 shall be wasted and become dryH3001. 6And the riversH5104 shall become foul; the streams of EgyptH4693 shall be diminished and dried up; the reedsH7070 and flags shall wither away. 7The meadows by the Nile, by the brink of the Nile, and all the sown fields of the Nile, shall become dryH3001, be drivenH5086 away, and be no more. 8And the fishers shall lamentH578, and all they that castH7993 angle into the Nile shall mournH56, and they that spreadH6566 nets upon the watersH4325 shall languishH535. 9Moreover they that workH5647 in combed flaxH6593, and they that weaveH707 white cloth, shall be confounded. 10And the pillars of Egypt shall beH1961 broken in pieces; all they that work for hire shall beH1961 grieved in soulH5315.

11The princesH8269 of ZoanH6814 are utterly foolish; the counselH6098 of the wisestH2450 counsellors of PharaohH6547 is become brutish: howH349 sayH559 ye unto PharaohH6547, I am the sonH1121 of the wiseH2450, the sonH1121 of ancient kingsH4428? 12WhereH335 thenH645 are thy wiseH2450 men? and let them tellH5046 thee now; and let them knowH3045 what Jehovah of hostsH6635 hath purposed concerning EgyptH4714. 13The princesH8269 of ZoanH6814 are becomeH2973 foolsH2973, the princesH8269 of MemphisH5297 are deceived; they have caused EgyptH4714 to goH8582 astrayH8582, that are the corner-stone of her tribesH7626. 14Jehovah hath mingled a spiritH7307 of perverseness in the midstH7130 of her; and they have caused EgyptH4714 to goH8582 astrayH8582 in every workH4639 thereof, as a drunkenH7910 man staggereth in his vomitH6892. 15Neither shall there beH1961 for EgyptH4714 any workH4639, which headH7218 or tailH2180, palm-branch or rush, may do.

16In that dayH3117 shall the Egyptians beH1961 like unto womenH802; and they shall trembleH2729 and fearH6342 because of the shaking of the handH3027 of Jehovah of hostsH6635, which he shaketh over them. 17And the landH127 of JudahH3063 shall becomeH1961 a terror unto EgyptH4714; every one to whom mention is made thereof shall beH1961 afraidH6342, because of the purposeH6098 of Jehovah of hostsH6635, which he purposeth against it.

18In that dayH3117 there shall beH1961 fiveH2568 citiesH5892 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 that speakH1696 the languageH8193 of CanaanH3667, and swearH7650 to Jehovah of hostsH6635; oneH259 shall beH1961 called The cityH5892 of destruction.

19In that dayH3117 shall there beH1961 an altarH4196 to Jehovah in the midstH8432 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and a pillarH4676 at the borderH1366 thereof to Jehovah. 20And it shall beH1961 for a signH226 and for a witnessH5707 unto Jehovah of hostsH6635 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714; for they shall cryH6817 unto Jehovah because of oppressors, and he will sendH7971 them a saviour, and a defender, and he will deliverH5337 them. 21And Jehovah shall be knownH3045 to EgyptH4714, and the Egyptians shall knowH3045 Jehovah in that dayH3117; yea, they shall worship with sacrificeH2077 and oblation, and shall vowH5088 a vowH5088 unto Jehovah, and shall perform it. 22And Jehovah will smite EgyptH4714, smiting and healingH7495; and they shall returnH7725 unto Jehovah, and he will be entreatedH6279 of them, and will healH7495 them.

23In that dayH3117 shall there beH1961 a highwayH4546 out of EgyptH4714 to AssyriaH804, and the Assyrian shall comeH935 into EgyptH4714, and the Egyptian into AssyriaH804; and the Egyptians shall worship with the Assyrians.

24In that dayH3117 shall IsraelH3478 beH1961 the thirdH7992 with EgyptH4714 and with AssyriaH804, a blessingH1293 in the midstH7130 of the earthH776; 25for that Jehovah of hostsH6635 hath blessedH1288 them, sayingH559, BlessedH1288 be EgyptH4714 my peopleH5971, and AssyriaH804 the workH4639 of my handsH3027, and IsraelH3478 mine inheritanceH5159.
