Isaiah 30

American Standard Version

1WoeH1945 to the rebelliousH5637 children, saith Jehovah, that take counselH6098, but not of me; and that makeH6213 a league, but not of my SpiritH7307, that they may addH5595 sinH2403 to sinH2403, 2that set out to goH1980 down into EgyptH4714, and have not askedH7592 at my mouthH6310; to strengthen themselves in the strength of PharaohH6547, and to takeH2620 refugeH2620 in the shadowH6738 of EgyptH4714! 3Therefore shall the strength of PharaohH6547 beH1961 your shameH1322, and the refugeH4581 in the shadowH6738 of EgyptH4714 your confusion. 4For their princesH8269 are at ZoanH6814, and their ambassadors are come to Hanes. 5They shall all be ashamed because of a peopleH5971 that cannot profitH3276 them, that are not a helpH5828 nor profitH3276, but a shameH1322, and alsoH1571 a reproachH2781.

6The burdenH4853 of the beasts of the SouthH5045.

Through the landH776 of troubleH6869 and anguish, from whence come the lionessH3833 and the lionH3918, the viperH660 and fiery flying serpent, they carryH5375 their riches upon the shouldersH3802 of young asses, and their treasuresH214 upon the humps of camelsH1581, to a peopleH5971 that shall not profitH3276 them. 7For EgyptH4714 helpeth in vain, and to no purpose: thereforeH3651 have I calledH7121 her RahabH7293 that sitteth still.

8NowH6258 goH935, writeH3789 it before them on a tabletH3871, and inscribeH2710 it in a bookH5612, that it may beH1961 for the time to comeH935 for everH5769 and everH5769. 9For it is a rebelliousH4805 peopleH5971, lying children, children that will not hearH8085 the lawH8451 of Jehovah; 10that sayH559 to the seersH2374, SeeH7200 not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speakH1696 unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits, 11get you out of the wayH1870, turnH5493 asideH5493 out of the pathH734, cause the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478 to ceaseH7673 from before us. 12Wherefore thusH3541 saith the HolyH6918 OneH2088 of IsraelH3478, Because ye despise this wordH1697, and trustH982 in oppressionH6233 and perverseness, and relyH982 thereon; 13thereforeH3651 this iniquityH5771 shall beH1961 to you as a breachH6556 ready to fallH5307, swelling out in a highH7682 wallH2346, whose breaking cometh suddenlyH6597 in an instantH6621. 14And he shall breakH7665 it as a potter’sH3335 vessel is brokenH7665, breakingH7665 it in pieces without sparingH2550; so that there shall not be foundH4672 among the pieces thereof a sherd wherewith to take fireH784 from the hearth, or to dip up waterH4325 out of the cistern.

15For thusH3541 saidH559 the LordH136 Jehovah, the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478, In returning and rest shall ye beH1961 savedH3467; in quietnessH8252 and in confidence shall beH1961 your strengthH1369. And ye wouldH14 not: 16but ye saidH559, No, for we will fleeH5127 upon horsesH5483; thereforeH3651 shall ye fleeH5127: and, We will rideH7392 upon the swiftH7031; thereforeH3651 shall they that pursueH7291 you be swiftH7031. 17OneH259 thousandH505 shall fleeH5127 at the threatH1606 of oneH259; at the threatH1606 of fiveH2568 shall ye fleeH5127: till ye be leftH3498 as a beacon upon the topH7218 of a mountainH2022, and as an ensign on a hillH2022.

18And thereforeH3651 will Jehovah waitH2442, that he may be gracious unto you; and thereforeH3651 will he be exaltedH7311, that he may have mercyH7355 upon you: for Jehovah is a GodH430 of justiceH4941; blessed are all they that waitH2442 for him. 19For the peopleH5971 shall dwellH3427 in ZionH6726 at JerusalemH3389; thou shalt weepH1058 no more; he will surely be gracious unto thee at the voiceH6963 of thy cryH2201; when he shall hearH8085, he will answerH6030 thee. 20And though the LordH136 giveH5414 you the breadH3899 of adversity and the waterH4325 of affliction, yetH5750 shall not thy teachers beH1961 hidden anymore, but thine eyesH5869 shall seeH7200 thy teachers; 21and thine earsH241 shall hearH8085 a wordH1697 behind thee, sayingH559, This is the wayH1870, walk ye in it; when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. 22And ye shall defileH2930 the overlayingH6826 of thy graven images of silverH3701, and the plating of thy molten images of goldH2091: thou shalt cast them away as an uncleanH2930 thing; thou shalt sayH559 unto it, Get thee hence.

23And he will giveH5414 the rainH4306 for thy seedH2233, wherewith thou shalt sowH2232 the groundH127; and breadH3899 of the increase of the groundH127, and it shall beH1961 fat and plenteous. In that dayH3117 shall thy cattle feedH7462 in largeH7337 pastures; 24the oxen likewise and the young asses that till the groundH127 shall eatH398 savory provender, which hath been winnowedH2219 with the shovel and with the fork. 25And there shall beH1961 upon every lofty mountainH2022, and upon every highH1364 hillH2022, brooks and streamsH6388 of watersH4325, in the dayH3117 of the greatH7227 slaughterH2027, when the towersH4026 fallH5307. 26Moreover the lightH216 of the moonH3842 shall beH1961 as the lightH216 of the sunH2535, and the lightH216 of the sunH2535 shall beH1961 sevenfoldH7659, as the lightH216 of sevenH7651 daysH3117, in the dayH3117 that Jehovah bindeth up the hurt of his peopleH5971, and healeth the stroke of their woundH4347.

27Behold, the nameH8034 of Jehovah cometh from far, burning with his angerH639, and in thick rising smoke: his lipsH8193 are fullH4390 of indignationH2195, and his tongueH3956 is as a devouringH398 fireH784; 28and his breathH7307 is as an overflowingH7857 stream, that reacheth even unto the neckH6677, to sift the nationsH1471 with the sieve of destruction: and a bridle that causeth to errH8582 shall be in the jawsH3895 of the peoplesH5971. 29Ye shall have a songH7892 as in the nightH3915 when a holyH6942 feastH2282 is kept; and gladnessH8057 of heartH3824, as when one goeth with a pipe to comeH935 unto the mountainH2022 of Jehovah, to the RockH6697 of IsraelH3478. 30And Jehovah will cause his glorious voiceH6963 to be heardH8085, and will showH7200 the lighting down of his armH2220, with the indignation of his angerH639, and the flameH3851 of a devouringH398 fireH784, with a blast, and tempest, and hailstones. 31For through the voiceH6963 of Jehovah shall the Assyrian be dismayedH2865; with his rodH7626 will he smite him. 32And every stroke of the appointed staffH4294, which Jehovah shall lay upon him, shall beH1961 with the sound of tabrets and harpsH3658; and in battlesH4421 with the brandishingH8573 of his arm will he fightH3898 with them. 33For a Topheth is preparedH3559 of old; yea, for the kingH4428 it is made ready; he hath made it deepH6009 and largeH7337; the pileH4071 thereof is fireH784 and muchH7235 woodH6086; the breathH5397 of Jehovah, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindleH1197 it.
