Isaiah 51

American Standard Version

1Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousnessH6664, ye that seekH1245 Jehovah: lookH5027 unto the rockH6697 whence ye were hewn, and to the hole of the pitH953 whence ye were digged. 2LookH5027 unto AbrahamH85 your fatherH1, and unto SarahH8283 that bare you; for when he was but oneH259 I calledH7121 him, and I blessedH1288 him, and made him manyH7235. 3For Jehovah hath comfortedH5162 ZionH6726; he hath comfortedH5162 all her wasteH2723 placesH2723, and hath madeH7760 her wildernessH4057 like EdenH5731, and her desertH6160 like the gardenH1588 of Jehovah; joyH8057 and gladnessH8057 shall be foundH4672 therein, thanksgivingH8426, and the voiceH6963 of melody.

4Attend unto me, O my peopleH5971; and giveH238 earH238 unto me, O my nation: for a lawH8451 shall goH3318 forthH3318 from me, and I will establish my justiceH4941 for a lightH216 of the peoplesH5971. 5My righteousnessH6664 is near, my salvationH3468 is goneH3318 forthH3318, and mine armsH2220 shall judgeH8199 the peoplesH5971; the isles shall waitH3176 for me, and on mine armH2220 shall they trust. 6LiftH5375 up your eyesH5869 to the heavensH8064, and lookH5027 upon the earthH776 beneath; for the heavensH8064 shall vanish awayH5375 like smokeH6227, and the earthH776 shall wax old like a garmentH899; and they that dwellH3427 therein shall dieH4191 in like manner: but my salvationH3444 shall beH1961 for everH5769, and my righteousnessH6666 shall not beH1961 abolished.

7Hearken unto me, ye that knowH3045 righteousnessH6664, the peopleH5971 in whose heartH3820 is my lawH8451; fearH3372 ye not the reproachH2781 of men, neither be ye dismayedH2865 at their revilings. 8For the mothH6211 shall eatH398 them up like a garmentH899, and the worm shall eatH398 them like woolH6785; but my righteousnessH6666 shall beH1961 for everH5769, and my salvationH3444 unto all generationsH1755.

9AwakeH5782, awakeH5782, putH3847 on strengthH5797, O armH2220 of Jehovah; awakeH5782, as in the daysH3117 of old, the generationsH1755 of ancient times. Is it not thou that didst cutH2672 RahabH7294 in pieces, that didst pierce the monsterH8577? 10Is it not thou that driedst up the seaH3220, the watersH4325 of the greatH7227 deepH8415; that madest the depthsH8415 of the seaH3220 a wayH1870 for the redeemedH1350 to passH5674 over? 11And the ransomedH6299 of Jehovah shall returnH7725, and comeH935 with singing unto ZionH6726; and everlasting joyH8057 shall be upon their headsH7218: they shall obtain gladnessH8057 and joyH8057; and sorrowH3015 and sighingH585 shall fleeH5127 awayH7725.

12I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou art afraidH3372 of manH120 that shall dieH4191, and of the sonH1121 of manH120 that shall be madeH5414 as grassH2682; 13and hast forgottenH7911 Jehovah thy Maker, that stretchedH5186 forth the heavensH8064, and laid the foundations of the earthH776; and fearest continuallyH8548 all the dayH3117 because of the fury of the oppressorH6693, when he maketh ready to destroyH7843? and whereH834 is the fury of the oppressorH6693? 14The captive exile shall speedily be loosed; and he shall not dieH4191 and go down into the pitH7845, neither shall his breadH3899 fail. 15For I am Jehovah thy GodH430, who stirreth up the seaH3220, so that the waves thereof roarH1993: Jehovah of hostsH6635 is his nameH8034. 16And I have putH7760 my wordsH1697 in thy mouthH6310, and have coveredH3680 thee in the shadowH6738 of my handH3027, that I may plantH5193 the heavensH8064, and lay the foundations of the earthH776, and sayH559 unto ZionH6726, Thou art my peopleH5971.

17AwakeH5782, awakeH5782, standH6965 up, O JerusalemH3389, that hast drunkH8354 at the handH3027 of Jehovah the cupH3563 of his wrathH2534; thou hast drunken the bowl of the cupH3563 of staggering, and drainedH4680 it. 18There is none to guide her among all the sonsH1121 whom she hath broughtH3205 forthH3205; neither is there any that taketh her by the handH3027 among all the sonsH1121 that she hath broughtH3205 up. 19These twoH8147 things are befallen thee, who shall bemoan thee? desolation and destructionH7667, and the famineH7458 and the swordH2719; how shall I comfortH5162 thee? 20Thy sonsH1121 have faintedH5968, they lieH7901 at the headH7218 of all the streetsH2351, as an antelopeH8377 in a net; they are fullH4392 of the wrathH2534 of Jehovah, the rebukeH1606 of thy GodH430.

21ThereforeH3651 hearH8085 now this, thou afflictedH6041, and drunken, but not with wineH3196: 22ThusH3541 saith thy Lord Jehovah, and thy GodH430 that pleadeth the cause of his peopleH5971, Behold, I have takenH3947 out of thy handH3027 the cupH3563 of staggering, even the bowl of the cupH3563 of my wrathH2534; thou shalt no more drinkH8354 it againH5750: 23and I will putH7760 it into the handH3027 of them that afflict thee, that have saidH559 to thy soulH5315, BowH7812 downH7812, that we may go over; and thou hast laid thy back as the groundH776, and as the streetH2351, to them that go over.
