Isaiah 49
American Standard Version
1ListenH8085, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye peoplesH3816, from farH7350: Jehovah hath calledH7121 me from the wombH990; from the bowelsH4578 of my motherH517 hath he made mention of my nameH8034: 2and he hath madeH7760 my mouthH6310 like a sharpH2299 swordH2719; in the shadowH6738 of his handH3027 hath he hidH5641 me: and he hath madeH7760 me a polished shaft; in his quiverH827 hath he kept me close: 3and he saidH559 unto me, Thou art my servantH5650; IsraelH3478, in whom I will be glorifiedH6286. 4But I saidH559, I have laboredH3021 in vain, I have spent my strengthH3581 for nought and vanityH1892; yet surely the justiceH4941 due to me is with Jehovah, and my recompenseH6468 with my GodH430.
5And nowH6258 saith Jehovah that formedH3335 me from the wombH990 to beH1961 his servantH5650, to bringH7725 JacobH3290 again to him, and that IsraelH3478 beH1961 gatheredH622 unto him (for I amH1961 honorable in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah, and my GodH430 is becomeH1961 my strengthH5797); 6yea, he saith, It is too lightH216 a thingH7043 that thou shouldest beH1961 my servantH5650 to raiseH6965 up the tribesH7626 of JacobH3290, and to restoreH7725 the preserved of IsraelH3478: I will also giveH5414 thee for a lightH216 to the Gentiles, that thou mayest beH1961 my salvationH3444 unto the endH7097 of the earthH776. 7ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, the RedeemerH1350 of IsraelH3478, and his HolyH6918 OneH6918, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nationH1471 abhorreth, to a servantH5650 of rulers: KingsH4428 shall seeH7200 and ariseH6965; princesH8269, and they shall worship; because of Jehovah that is faithfulH539, even the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478, who hath chosenH977 thee.
8ThusH3541 saith Jehovah, In an acceptable timeH6256 have I answered thee, and in a dayH3117 of salvationH3444 have I helpedH5826 thee; and I will preserveH5341 thee, and giveH5414 thee for a covenantH1285 of the peopleH5971, to raiseH6965 up the landH776, to makeH5414 them inheritH5157 the desolateH8074 heritages; 9sayingH559 to them that are boundH631, GoH3318 forthH3318; to them that are in darknessH2822, Show yourselves. They shall feedH7462 in the waysH1870, and on all bareH8205 heightsH8205 shall be their pastureH4830. 10They shall not hungerH7456 nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sunH8121 smite them: for he that hath mercyH7355 on them will leadH5095 them, even by springs of waterH4325 will he guide them. 11And I will makeH7760 all my mountainsH2022 a wayH1870, and my highwaysH4546 shall be exaltedH7311. 12Lo, these shall comeH935 from farH7350; and, lo, these from the northH6828 and from the westH3220; and these from the landH776 of Sinim. 13SingH7442, O heavensH8064; and be joyful, O earthH776; and breakH6476 forthH6476 into singing, O mountainsH2022: for Jehovah hath comfortedH5162 his peopleH5971, and will have compassionH7355 upon his afflictedH6041.
14But ZionH6726 saidH559, Jehovah hath forsaken me, and the Lord hath forgottenH7911 me. 15Can a womanH802 forgetH7911 her sucking child, that she should not have compassionH7355 on the sonH1121 of her wombH990? yea, these may forgetH7911, yet will not I forgetH7911 thee. 16Behold, I have graven thee upon the palmsH3709 of my handsH3709; thy wallsH2346 are continuallyH8548 before me. 17Thy children makeH4116 hasteH4116; thy destroyers and they that madeH4116 thee waste shall goH3318 forthH3318 from thee. 18LiftH5375 up thine eyesH5869 roundH5439 about, and behold: all these gatherH6908 themselves togetherH6908, and comeH935 to thee. As I live, saith Jehovah, thou shalt surely clotheH3847 thee with them all as with an ornament, and gird thyself with them, like a brideH3618. 19For, as for thy wasteH2723 and thy desolateH8074 placesH2723, and thy landH776 that hath been destroyed, surely nowH6258 shalt thou be too strait for the inhabitantsH3427, and they that swallowedH1104 thee up shall be farH7368 awayH7368. 20The children of thy bereavement shall yetH5750 sayH559 in thine earsH241, The placeH4725 is too strait for me; give placeH4725 to me that I may dwellH3427. 21Then shalt thou sayH559 in thy heartH3824, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have been bereavedH7921 of my children, and am solitary, an exileH1473, and wandering to and fro? and who hath broughtH3205 up these? Behold, I was leftH7604 aloneH905; these, whereH375 were they?
22ThusH3541 saith the LordH136 Jehovah, Behold, I will liftH5375 up my handH3027 to the nationsH1471, and set up my ensign to the peoplesH5971; and they shall bringH935 thy sonsH1121 in their bosomH2684, and thy daughtersH1323 shall be carriedH5375 upon their shouldersH3802. 23And kingsH4428 shall beH1961 thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bowH7812 downH7812 to thee with their facesH639 to the earthH776, and lickH3897 the dustH6083 of thy feetH7272; and thou shalt knowH3045 that I am Jehovah; and they that waitH6960 for me shall not beH1961 putH954 to shameH954.
24Shall the prey be takenH3947 from the mightyH1368, or the lawful captivesH7628 be deliveredH4422? 25But thusH3541 saith Jehovah, Even the captivesH7628 of the mightyH1368 shall be takenH3947 awayH3947, and the prey of the terrible shall be deliveredH3467; for I will contendH7378 with him that contendeth with thee, and I will saveH3467 thy children. 26And I will feed them that oppressH3238 thee with their own fleshH1320; and they shall be drunken with their own bloodH1818, as with sweetH6071 wineH6071: and all fleshH1320 shall knowH3045 that I, Jehovah, am thy Saviour, and thy RedeemerH1350, the MightyH46 One of JacobH3290.
