Isaiah 23
American Standard Version
1The burdenH4853 of TyreH6865.
Howl, ye shipsH591 of TarshishH8659; for it is laid waste, so that there is no houseH1004, no entering in: from the landH776 of KittimH3794 it is revealedH1540 to them. 2Be still, ye inhabitantsH3427 of the coast, thou whom the merchants of SidonH6721, that passH5674 over the seaH3220, have replenished. 3And on greatH7227 watersH4325 the seedH2233 of the ShihorH7883, the harvestH7105 of the Nile, wasH1961 her revenue; and she wasH1961 the mart of nationsH1471. 4Be thou ashamedH954, O SidonH6721; for the seaH3220 hath spoken, the strongholdH4581 of the seaH3220, sayingH559, I have not travailed, nor broughtH3205 forthH3205, neither have I nourished youngH970 menH970, nor broughtH3205 up virginsH1330. 5WhenH834 the reportH8088 cometh to EgyptH4714, they shall be sorely pained at the reportH8088 of TyreH6865. 6PassH5674 ye over to TarshishH8659; wailH3213, ye inhabitantsH3427 of the coast. 7Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient daysH3117, whose feetH7272 carried her afarH7350 off to sojourn?
8Who hath purposed this against TyreH6865, the bestower of crowns, whose merchants are princesH8269, whose traffickers are the honorable of the earthH776? 9Jehovah of hostsH6635 hath purposed it, to stain the prideH1347 of all gloryH3513, to bring into contemptH7043 all the honorable of the earthH776. 10PassH5674 through thy landH776 as the Nile, O daughterH1323 of TarshishH8659; there is no restraint any more. 11He hath stretchedH5186 out his handH3027 over the seaH3220, he hath shaken the kingdomsH4467: Jehovah hath given commandment concerning CanaanH3667, to destroyH8045 the strongholdsH4581 thereof. 12And he saidH559, Thou shalt no more rejoiceH5937, O thou oppressedH6231 virginH1330 daughterH1323 of SidonH6721: ariseH6965, passH5674 over to KittimH3794; even there shalt thou have no restH5117.
13Behold, the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778: this peopleH5971 wasH1961 not; the Assyrian foundedH3245 it for them that dwell in the wilderness; they setH7760 up their towers; they overthrew the palaces thereof; they madeH7760 it a ruin. 14Howl, ye shipsH591 of TarshishH8659; for your strongholdH4581 is laid waste. 15And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, that TyreH6865 shall beH1961 forgottenH7911 seventyH7657 yearsH8141, according to the daysH3117 of oneH259 kingH4428: after the endH7093 of seventyH7657 yearsH8141 it shall beH1961 unto TyreH6865 as in the songH7892 of the harlot. 16TakeH3947 a harpH3658, goH5437 about the cityH5892, thou harlot that hast been forgottenH7911; makeH2142 sweet melody, sing manyH7235 songsH7892, that thou mayest be rememberedH2142. 17And it shall come to pass after the endH7093 of seventyH7657 yearsH8141, that Jehovah will visitH6485 TyreH6865, and she shall returnH7725 to her hireH868, and shall playH2181 the harlot with all the kingdomsH4467 of the world upon the faceH6440 of the earthH776. 18And her merchandise and her hireH868 shall beH1961 holinessH6944 to Jehovah: it shall not beH1961 treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall beH1961 for them that dwellH3427 before Jehovah, to eatH398 sufficiently, and for durable clothing.
