1“Forthe kingdomβασιλείαbasileiaG932of heavenοὐρανῶνouranōnG3772is likeὉμοίαHomoiaG3664a landownerοἰκοδεσπότῃoikodespotēG3617whoὅστιςhostisG3748wentG1831outG1831earlyἅμαhamaG260in the morningπρωῒprōiG4404to hireμισθώσασθαιmisthōsasthaiG3409laborersἐργάταςergatasG2040for hisvineyardἀμπελῶναampelōnaG290.

2When he had agreedσυμφωνήσαςsumphōnēsasG4856with the laborersἐργατῶνergatōnG2040for adenariusδηναρίουdēnariouG1220for the dayἡμέρανhēmeranG2250,he sentἀπέστειλενapesteilenG649them into his vineyardἀμπελῶναampelōnaG290.

3And he wentG1831outG1831aboutπερὶperiG4012thethirdτρίτηνtritēnG5154hourὥρανhōranG5610and sawG3708othersἄλλουςallousG243standingἑστῶταςhestōtasG2476idleἀργούςargousG692in the marketplaceἀγορᾷagoraG58;

4and to thoseἐκείνοιςekeinoisG1565he saidG3004, ‘You goὑπάγετεhupageteG5217into the vineyardἀμπελῶνα,ampelōnaG290alsoG2532,and whateverὃ ἐὰνho eanG3739 G1437is rightδίκαιονdikaionG1342,I will giveδώσωdōsōG1325you.’ And sothey wentG565.

5AgainπάλινpalinG3825he wentG1831outG1831aboutπερὶperiG4012thesixthἕκτηνhektēnG1623and the ninthG1729hourὥρανhōranG5610,and didἐποίησενepoiēsenG4160the sameG5615thingG5615.

6And aboutπερὶperiG4012theeleventhἑνδεκάτηνhendekatēnG1734hourhe wentG1831outG1831and foundεὗρενheurenG2147othersἄλλουςallousG243standingἑστῶταςhestōtasG2476around;and he saidλέγειlegeiG3004to them, ‘WhyτίtiG5101have you been standingἑστήκατεhestēkateG2476hereὧδεhōdeG5602idleἀργοί;argoiG692allG3650dayἡμέρανhēmeranG2250longG3650?’

7They saidλέγουσινlegousinG3004to him, ‘BecauseὅτιhotiG3754noG3762oneοὐδεὶςoudeisG3762hiredἐμισθώσατο.emisthōsatoG3409us.’ He saidλέγειlegeiG3004to them, ‘You goὑπάγετεhupageteG5217into the vineyardἀμπελῶναampelōnaG290tooκαὶkaiG2532.’

8“NowδὲdeG1161wheneveningὈψίαςOpsiasG3798cameγενομένηςgenomenēsG1096, theownerκύριοςkuriosG2962of the vineyardἀμπελῶνοςampelōnosG290saidλέγειlegeiG3004to hisforemanἐπιτρόπῳepitropōG2012, ‘CallκάλεσονkalesonG2564the laborersἐργάταςergatasG2040and payἀπόδοςapodosG591them their wagesμισθὸνmisthonG3408,startingἀρξάμενοςarxamenosG757with the lastἐσχάτωνeschatōnG2078groupto the firstπρώτων.prōtōnG4413.’

9WhenκαὶkaiG2532thoseG3588hiredaboutπερὶperiG4012the eleventhἑνδεκάτηνhendekatēnG1734hourὥρανhōranG5610cameἐλθόντεςelthontesG2064,eachG303oneG303receivedἔλαβονelabonG2983adenariusδηνάριον.dēnarionG1220.

10And sowhen thoseG3588hiredfirstπρῶτοιprōtoiG4413cameἐλθόντεςelthontesG2064,they thoughtἐνόμισανenomisanG3543that they would receiveλήμψονται·lēmpsontaiG2983moreG4183;but eachἀνὰanaG303of them alsoG2532receivedἔλαβονelabonG2983a denariusδηνάριονdēnarionG1220.

11When they receivedλαβόντεςlabontesG2983it, they grumbledἐγόγγυζονegonguzonG1111at the landownerοἰκοδεσπότουoikodespotouG3617,

12sayingλέγοντεςlegontesG3004, ‘TheseοὗτοιhoutoiG3778who were hiredlastἔσχατοιeschatoiG2078workedἐποίησαν,epoiēsanG4160onlyoneμίανmianG1520hourὥρανhōranG5610,and you have madeἐποίησας,epoiēsasG4160them equalἴσουςisousG2470to us whoG3588have borneβαστάσασινbastasasinG941the burdenβάροςbarosG922of the day’sἡμέραςhēmerasG2250work and thescorchingG2742heatκαύσωνα.kausōnaG2742.’

13But he answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004to oneἑνὶheniG1520of them, ‘Friendἑταῖρε,hetaireG2083,I am doingG91you noοὐκoukG3756wrongἀδικῶadikōG91;did you not agreeσυνεφώνησάςsunephōnēsasG4856with me for a denariusδηναρίουdēnariouG1220?

14TakeἆρονaronG142whatG3588is yoursG4674and goὕπαγε.hupageG5217;but I wantθέλωthelōG2309to giveδοῦναιdounaiG1325to thisτούτῳtoutōG3778lastἐσχάτῳeschatōG2078personG2078the sameG2532as to you.

15Is it not lawfulἔξεστίνexestinG1832for me to doποιῆσαιpoiēsaiG4160whatὃhoG3739I wantθέλωthelōG2309with whatG3588is my ownG1699?OrG2228is youreyeὀφθαλμόςophthalmosG3788enviousπονηρόςponērosG4190becauseὅτιhotiG3754I amG1510generousἀγαθόςagathosG18?’

16SoοὕτωςhoutōsG3779the lastἔσχατοιeschatoiG2078shall be firstπρῶτοιprōtoiG4413,and the firstπρῶτοιprōtoiG4413,lastἔσχατοιeschatoiG2078.”
