Deuteronomy 5
Darby Bible
1And MosesH4872 calledH7121 to all IsraelH3478, and saidH559 to them, HearH8085, IsraelH3478, the statutesH2706 and the ordinancesH4941 that I speakH1696 in your earsH241 this dayH3117, and learnH3925 them, and keepH8104 them to do them. 2Jehovah our 1GodH430 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with us in HorebH2722. 3Not with our fathersH1 did Jehovah makeH3772 this covenantH1285, but with us, [even] us, those [who are] hereH6311 aliveH2416 all of us this dayH3117. 4FaceH6440 to faceH6440 on the mountainH2022 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784 Jehovah spokeH1696 with you 5(I stoodH5975 between Jehovah and you at that timeH6256, to declareH5046 to you the wordH1697 of Jehovah; for ye were afraidH3372 by reason of the fireH784, and wentH5927 not up to the mountainH2022), sayingH559, 6I am Jehovah thy 2GodH430 who have broughtH3318 thee out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, out of the houseH1004 of bondage. 7Thou shalt have no otherH312 3godsH430 before me. 8Thou shalt not makeH6213 thyself any graven imageH6459, any formH8544 of what is in the heavensH8064 above, or what is in the earthH776 beneath, or what is in the watersH4325 under the earthH776: 9thou shalt not bowH7812 down thyself to them, nor serveH5647 them; for I, Jehovah thy 4GodH430, am a jealousH7067 5GodH430, visitingH6485 the iniquityH5771 of the fathersH1 upon the sonsH1121, and upon the thirdH8029 and upon the fourthH7256 [generationH8029] of them that hateH8130 me, 10and shewing mercy unto thousandsH505 of them that loveH157 me and keepH8104 my commandmentsH4687. 11Thou shalt not idly utter the nameH8034 of Jehovah thy 6GodH430; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that idly uttereth his nameH8034. 12KeepH8104 the sabbathH7676 dayH3117 to hallow it, as Jehovah thy 7GodH430 hath commandedH6680 thee. 13SixH8337 daysH3117 shalt thou labour, and do all thy workH4399; 14but the seventhH7637 dayH3117 is the sabbathH7676 of Jehovah thy 8GodH430: thou shalt not do any workH4399, thou, nor thy sonH1121, nor thy daughterH1323, nor thy bondman, nor thy handmaid, nor thine oxH7794, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattleH929, nor thy sojournerH1616 that is within thy gatesH8179; that thy bondman and thy handmaid may restH5117 as well as thou. 15And thou shalt rememberH2142 that thou wast a bondman in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and that Jehovah thy 9GodH430 broughtH3318 thee out thence with a powerful handH3027 and with a stretched-outH5186 armH2220; thereforeH3651 Jehovah thy 10GodH430 hath commandedH6680 thee to observeH6213 the sabbathH7676 dayH3117. 16Honour thy fatherH1 and thy motherH517, as Jehovah thy 11GodH430 hath commandedH6680 thee; that thy daysH3117 may be prolongedH748, and that it may be wellH3190 with thee in the landH127 which Jehovah thy 12GodH430 giveth thee. 17Thou shalt not kill. 18Neither shalt thou commitH5003 adulteryH5003. 19Neither shalt thou stealH1589. 20Neither shalt thou bear false witnessH5707 against thy neighbour. 21Neither shalt thou desireH183 thy neighbour's wifeH802, neither shalt thou covetH2530 thy neighbour's houseH1004, his fieldH7704, nor his bondman, nor his handmaid, his oxH7794, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's. 22These wordsH1697 Jehovah spokeH1696 to all your congregation on the mountainH2022 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784, of the cloudH6051, and of the obscurity, with a greatH1419 voiceH6963, and he addedH3254 no more; and he wroteH3789 them on twoH8147 tables of stoneH68, and gaveH5414 them to me. 23And it came to pass, when ye heardH8085 the voiceH6963 from the midstH8432 of the darknessH2822, and the mountainH2022 burnedH1197 with fireH784, that ye came near to me, all the headsH7218 of your tribesH7626, and your eldersH2205; 24and ye saidH559, Behold, Jehovah our 13GodH430 has shewn us his gloryH3519 and his greatnessH1433, and we have heardH8085 his voiceH6963 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784: we have seenH7200 this dayH3117 that 14GodH430 talks with manH120, and he lives. 25And nowH6258, whyH4100 should we dieH4191? for this greatH1419 fireH784 will consumeH398 us. If we hearH8085 the voiceH6963 of Jehovah our 15GodH430 any more, we shall dieH4191. 26For who is there of all fleshH1320, that has heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of the living 16GodH430 speakingH1696 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784, as we, and has livedH2421? 27Come thou near, and hearH8085 all that Jehovah our 17GodH430 will sayH559; and speakH1696 thou to us all that Jehovah our 18GodH430 will speakH1696 to thee; and we will hearH8085 it, and do it. 28And Jehovah heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of your wordsH1697, whenH834 ye spokeH1696 to me; and Jehovah saidH559 unto me, I have heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of the wordsH1697 of this peopleH5971 that have spokenH1696 to thee: they have wellH3190 spokenH1696 all that they have spokenH1696. 29Oh that there wereH1961 such a heartH3824 in them, that they would fearH3372 me, and keepH8104 all my commandmentsH4687 continually, that it might beH1961 wellH3190 with them and with their sonsH1121 for everH5769! 30GoH7725, sayH559 unto them, Get you into your tentsH168 again. 31But as for thee, standH5975 thou hereH6311 by me, and I will speakH1696 unto thee all the commandmentsH4687, and the statutesH2706, and the ordinancesH4941, which thou shalt teachH3925 them, that they may do them in the landH776 which I giveH5414 them to possessH3423 it. 32Take heedH8104 then to do as Jehovah your 19GodH430 hath commandedH6680 you: turnH5493 not asideH5493 to the rightH3225 handH3225 or to the left. 33In all the wayH1870 that Jehovah your 20GodH430 hath commandedH6680 you shall ye walk, that ye may liveH2421, and that it may be wellH2895 with you, and that ye may prolongH748 your daysH3117 in the landH776 which ye shall possessH3423.
