Deuteronomy 5
The Ten Commandments Repeated
1Then MosesH4872 summonedH7121 allH3605 IsraelH3478 and saidH559 to them:
“HearH8085, O IsraelH3478, the statutesH2706 and the ordinancesH4941 whichH834 I am speakingH1696 todayH3117 in your 1hearingH241, that you may learnH3925 them and observeH8104 2them carefullyH6213. 2The LordH3068 our GodH430 madeH3772 3a covenantH1285 with us at HorebH2722. 34The LordH3068 did not makeH3772 thisH2088 covenantH1285 with our fathersH1, but with us, with allH3605 thoseH428 of 5us aliveH2416 hereH6311 todayH3117. 4The LordH3068 spokeH1696 to you 6faceH6440 to faceH6440 at the mountainH2022 7from the midstH8432 of the fireH784, 5while 8I was standingH5975 betweenH996 the LordH3068 and you at that timeH6256, to declareH5046 to you the wordH1697 of the LordH3068; 9for you were afraidH3372 becauseH4480H6440 of the fireH784 and did not goH5927 up the mountainH2022. 10He saidH559,
6‘11I am the LordH3068 your GodH430 whoH834 broughtH3318 you out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, out of the houseH1004 of 12slaveryH5650.
7‘13You shall haveH1961 noH3808 otherH312 godsH430 14beforeH6440 Me.
8‘15You shall not makeH6213 for yourself 16an idolH6459, or anyH3605 likenessH8544 of whatH834 is in heavenH8064 aboveH4480H4605 17or on the earthH776 beneathH4480H8478 18or in the waterH4325 underH8478 the earthH776. 9You shall not worshipH7812 them or serveH5647 them; for I, the LordH3068 your GodH430, am a jealousH7067 GodH410, 19visitingH6485 the iniquityH5771 of the fathersH1 on the childrenH1121, and on the thirdH8029 and the fourthH7256 generations of those who hateH8130 Me, 10but 20showingH6213 lovingkindnessH2617 to thousandsH505, to those who loveH157 Me and keepH8104 My commandmentsH4687.
11‘21You shall not takeH5375 the nameH8034 of the LordH3068 your GodH430 in vainH7723, for the LordH3068 will not 22leaveH5352 him unpunishedH5352 whoH834 takesH5375 His nameH8034 in vainH7723.
12‘23ObserveH8104 the sabbathH7676 dayH3117 to keepH6942 it holyH6942, as the LordH3068 your GodH430 commandedH6680 you. 13SixH8337 daysH3117 you shall laborH5647 and doH6213 allH3605 your workH4399, 14but 24the seventhH7637 dayH3117 is a sabbathH7676 of the LordH3068 your GodH430; in it you shall not doH6213 anyH3605 workH4399, you or your sonH1121 or your daughterH1323 or your maleH5650 servantH5650 or your femaleH519 servantH519 or your oxH7794 or your donkeyH2543 or anyH3605 of your cattleH929 or your sojournerH1616 whoH834 25stays with you, soH4616 that your maleH5650 servantH5650 and your femaleH519 servantH519 may restH5117 as well as you. 1526You shall rememberH2142 that you were a slaveH5650 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and the LordH3068 your GodH430 broughtH3318 you out of thereH8033 by a mightyH2389 handH3027 and by an outstretchedH5186 armH2220; thereforeH5921H3651 the LordH3068 your GodH430 commandedH6680 you to observeH6213 the sabbathH7676 dayH3117.
16‘27HonorH3513 your fatherH1 and your motherH517, as the LordH3068 your GodH430 has commandedH6680 you, 28that your daysH3117 may be prolongedH748 and that it may goH3190 wellH3190 with you on the landH127 whichH834 the LordH3068 your GodH430 givesH5414 you.
17‘29You shall not murderH7523.
18‘30You shall not commitH5003 adulteryH5003.
19‘31You shall not stealH1589.
20‘32You shall not bearH6030 falseH7723 witnessH5707 against your neighborH7453.
21‘33You shall not covetH2530 your neighbor’sH7453 wifeH802, and you shall not desireH183 your neighbor’sH7453 houseH1004, his fieldH7704 or his maleH5650 servantH5650 or his femaleH519 servantH519, his oxH7794 or his donkeyH2543 or anythingH3605 that belongs to your neighborH7453.’
Moses Interceded
22“TheseH428 wordsH1697 the LordH3068 spokeH1696 to allH3605 your assemblyH6951 at the mountainH2022 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784, of the cloudH6051 and of the thickH6205 gloomH6205, with a greatH1419 voiceH6963, and He addedH3254 noH3808 moreH3254. 34He wroteH3789 them on twoH8147 tabletsH3871 of stoneH68 and gaveH5414 them to me. 23And when you heardH8085 the voiceH6963 from the midstH8432 of the darknessH2822, while the mountainH2022 was burningH1197 with fireH784, you cameH7126 nearH7126 to me, allH3605 the headsH7218 of your tribesH7626 and your eldersH2205. 24You saidH559, ‘BeholdH2005, the LordH3068 our GodH430 has shownH7200 us His gloryH3519 and His greatnessH1433, and we have heardH8085 His voiceH6963 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784; we have seenH7200 todayH3117 that GodH430 speaksH1696 with manH120, yet he livesH2421. 2535NowH6258 then whyH4100 should we dieH4191? For thisH2088 greatH1419 fireH784 will consumeH398 us; ifH518 we hearH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LordH3068 our GodH430 anyH5750 longerH5750, then we will dieH4191. 26For 36whoH4310 is there of allH3605 fleshH1320 whoH834 has heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of the livingH2416 GodH430 speakingH1696 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784, as we have, and livedH2421? 2737GoH7126 nearH7126 and hearH8085 allH3605 that the LordH3068 our GodH430 saysH559; then speakH1696 to us allH3605 that the LordH3068 our GodH430 speaksH1696 to you, and we will hearH8085 and doH6213 it.’
28“The LordH3068 heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of your wordsH1697 when you spokeH1696 to me, 38and the LordH3068 saidH559 to me, ‘I have heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of the wordsH1697 of thisH2088 peopleH5971 whichH834 they have spokenH1696 to you. They have doneH3190 wellH3190 in allH3605 that they have spokenH1696. 2939OhH4310H5414 that they hadH1961 suchH2088 a heartH3824 in them, that they would fearH3372 Me and 40keepH8104 allH3605 My commandmentsH4687 alwaysH3605H3117, that 41it may be wellH3190 with them and with their sonsH1121 foreverH5769! 30GoH1980, sayH559 to them, “ReturnH7725 to your tentsH168.” 3142But as for you, standH5975 hereH6311 by Me, that I may speakH1696 to you allH3605 the commandmentsH4687 and the statutesH2706 and the judgmentsH4941 whichH834 you shall teachH3925 them, that they may observeH6213 them in the landH776 whichH834 I giveH5414 them to possessH3423.’ 32So you shall observeH6213 to doH6213 justH3512 as the LordH3068 your GodH430 has commandedH6680 you; 43you shall not turnH5493 asideH5493 to the rightH3225 or to the leftH8040. 3344You shall walkH1980 in allH3605 the wayH1870 whichH834 the LordH3068 your GodH430 has commandedH6680 you, 45that you may liveH2421 and that it may be wellH2895 with you, and that you may prolongH748 your daysH3117 in the landH776 whichH834 you will possessH3423.
