Deuteronomy 28

Darby Bible

1And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voiceH6963 of Jehovah thy 1GodH430, to takeH8104 heed to do all his commandmentsH4687 which I commandH6680 thee this dayH3117, that Jehovah thy 2GodH430 will setH5414 thee supreme above all nationsH1471 of the earthH776; 2and all these blessingsH1293 shall comeH935 on thee and overtakeH5381 thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voiceH6963 of Jehovah thy 3GodH430. 3BlessedH1288 shalt thou be in the cityH5892, and blessedH1288 shalt thou be in the fieldH7704. 4BlessedH1288 shall be the fruitH6529 of thy wombH990, and the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127, and the fruitH6529 of thy cattleH929, the offspring of thy kine, and the increase of thy sheepH6629. 5BlessedH1288 shall be thy basketH2935 and thy kneading-trough. 6BlessedH1288 shalt thou be in thy comingH935 in, and blessedH1288 shalt thou be in thy goingH3318 out. 7Jehovah will giveH5414 up, smitten before thee, thine enemiesH341 that riseH6965 up against thee; they shall comeH3318 out against thee oneH259 wayH1870, and by sevenH7651 waysH1870 shall they fleeH5127 before thee. 8Jehovah will commandH6680 blessingH1293 on thee in thy granaries, and in all the business of thy handH3027; and he will blessH1288 thee in the landH776 which Jehovah thy 4GodH430 giveth thee. 9Jehovah will establishH6965 thee unto himself a holyH6918 peopleH5971 as he hath swornH7650 unto thee, if thou keepH8104 the commandmentsH4687 of Jehovah thy 5GodH430, and walkH1980 in his waysH1870. 10And all peoplesH5971 of the earthH776 shall seeH7200 that thou art calledH7121 by the nameH8034 of Jehovah, and they shall be afraidH3372 of thee. 11And Jehovah will giveH5414 thee abundance of goodH2896, in the fruitH6529 of thy body, and in the fruitH6529 of thy cattleH929, and in the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127, in the landH127 that Jehovah sworeH7650 unto thy fathersH1 to giveH5414 thee. 12Jehovah will openH6605 to thee his goodH2896 treasureH214, the heavensH8064, to giveH5414 rainH4306 unto thy landH776 in its season, and to blessH1288 all the workH4639 of thy handH3027; and thou shalt lend unto manyH7227 nationsH1471, but thou shalt not borrow. 13And Jehovah will makeH5414 thee the headH7218, and not the tailH2180; and thou shalt beH1961 above onlyH7535, and thou shalt not beH1961 beneath; if thou hearken unto the commandmentsH4687 of Jehovah thy 6GodH430, which I commandH6680 thee this dayH3117, to keepH8104 and to do them, 14and if thou turnH5493 not asideH5493 from any of the wordsH1697 that I commandH6680 thee this dayH3117, to the rightH3225 handH3225 or to the left, to go after otherH312 7godsH430 to serveH5647 them. 15But it shall comeH935 to pass if thou wilt not hearken unto the voiceH6963 of Jehovah thy 8GodH430, to takeH8104 heed to do all his commandmentsH4687 and his statutesH2708 which I commandH6680 thee this dayH3117, that all these cursesH7045 shall comeH935 upon thee and overtakeH5381 thee. 16CursedH779 shalt thou be in the cityH5892, and cursedH779 shalt thou be in the fieldH7704. 17CursedH779 shall be thy basketH2935 and thy kneading-trough. 18CursedH779 shall be the fruitH6529 of thy wombH990, and the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127, the offspring of thy kine, and the increase of thy sheepH6629. 19CursedH779 shalt thou be in thy comingH935 in, and cursedH779 shalt thou be in thy goingH3318 out. 20Jehovah will sendH7971 upon thee cursing, confusionH4103, and rebuke, in all the business of thy handH3027 which thou doest, until thou be destroyedH8045 and until thou perishH6 quicklyH4118, because of the wickednessH7455 of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me. 21Jehovah will makeH3615 the pestilenceH1698 cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the landH127 whither thou goest to possessH3423 it. 22Jehovah will smite thee with consumptionH7829, and with feverH6920, and with inflammation, and with burning ague, and with drought, and with blightH7711, and with mildewH3420, and they shall pursueH7291 thee until thou perishH6. 23And thy heavensH8064 which are over thy headH7218 shall beH1961 brass, and the earthH776 which is under thee, ironH1270. 24Jehovah will giveH5414 as the rainH4306 of thy landH776 powder and dustH6083; from the heavensH8064 shall it comeH3381 down upon thee until thou be destroyedH8045. 25Jehovah will giveH5414 thee up smitten before thine enemiesH341; thou shalt goH3318 out against them oneH259 wayH1870, and by sevenH7651 waysH1870 shalt thou fleeH5127 before them; and thou shalt beH1961 driven hither and thither into all the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776. 26And thy carcase shall beH1961 meat unto all the fowl of the air, and unto the beasts of the earthH776, and there shall beH1961 no man to scare them away. 27Jehovah will smite thee with the ulcers of EgyptH4714, and with boilsH7822, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healedH7495. 28Jehovah will smite thee with madnessH7697, and with blindnessH5788, and with astonishment of heartH3824; 29and thou shalt gropeH4959 at noonday, as the blindH5787 gropeth in darknessH653, and thou shalt not prosperH6743 in thy waysH1870; and thou shalt beH1961 onlyH389 oppressedH6231 and spoiled continually, and there shall beH1961 none to saveH3467. 30Thou shalt betrothH781 a wifeH802, and another manH376 shall lie with her; thou shalt buildH1129 a houseH1004, and thou shalt not dwellH3427 therein; thou shalt plantH5193 a vineyardH3754, and shalt not eat of it. 31Thine oxH7794 shall be slaughteredH2873 before thine eyesH5869, and thou shalt not eatH398 thereof; thine ass shall be snatched awayH7725 from before thy faceH6440, and shall not returnH7725 to thee; thy sheepH6629 shall be givenH5414 unto thine enemiesH341, and thou shalt have none to recover them. 32Thy sonsH1121 and thy daughtersH1323 shall be givenH5414 unto another peopleH5971, and thine eyesH5869 shall lookH7200, and languish for them all the dayH3117 long; and there shall be no power in thy handH3027 [to help it]. 33The fruitH6529 of thy groundH127 and all thy labour, shall a peopleH5971 that thou knowest not eatH398 up; and thou shalt beH1961 onlyH7535 oppressedH6231 and crushedH7533 continually. 34And thou shalt beH1961 madH7696 through the sight of thine eyesH5869 which thou shalt seeH7200. 35Jehovah will smite thee in the knees and in the legs with evilH7451 ulcers, whereof thou canst not be healedH7495, from the soleH3709 of thy footH7272 unto the top of thy head. 36Jehovah will bring thee, and thy kingH4428 whom thou shalt setH6965 over thee, unto a nationH1471 that neither thou nor thy fathersH1 have knownH3045, and there shalt thou serveH5647 otherH312 9godsH430, woodH6086 and stoneH68. 37And thou shalt becomeH1961 an astonishment, a proverbH4912, and a bywordH4912, among all the peoplesH5971 whither Jehovah shall lead thee. 38Thou shalt carry muchH7227 seedH2233 out into the fieldH7704, and shalt gatherH622 littleH4592 in; for the locustH697 shall devour it. 39Thou shalt plantH5193 and till vineyardsH3754, but shalt drinkH8354 no wineH3196, nor gatherH103 [the fruit]; for the wormsH8438 shall eatH398 it. 40Olive-trees shalt thou have throughout all thy bordersH1366, but thou shalt not anointH5480 thyself with oilH8081; for thine olive-tree shall cast its fruit. 41SonsH1121 and daughtersH1323 shalt thou beget, but thou shalt not have them [to beH1961 with thee]; for they shall go into captivityH7628. 42All thy treesH6086 and the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127 shall the locust possessH3423. 43The sojournerH1616 that is in thy midstH7130 shall rise above thee higher and higher, and thou shalt sink down lower and lower. 44He shall lendH3867 to thee, but thou shalt not lendH3867 to him: he shall beH1961 the headH7218, and thou shalt beH1961 the tailH2180. 45And all these cursesH7045 shall comeH935 upon thee, and shall pursueH7291 thee, and overtakeH5381 thee, until thou be destroyedH8045; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voiceH6963 of Jehovah thy 10GodH430, to keepH8104 his commandmentsH4687 and his statutesH2708 which he commandedH6680 thee. 46And they shall beH1961 upon thee for a signH226 and for a wonderH4159, and upon thy seedH2233 for everH5769. 47Because thou servedst not Jehovah thy 11GodH430 with joyfulness, and with gladnessH8057 of heartH3824, for the abundanceH7230 of everythingH3605, 48thou shalt serveH5647 thine enemiesH341 whom Jehovah will sendH7971 against thee, in hungerH7458, and in thirstH6772, and in nakednessH5903, and in want of everythingH3605; and he shall putH5414 a yokeH5923 of ironH1270 upon thy neckH6677, until he have destroyedH8045 thee. 49Jehovah will bring a nationH1471 against thee from afarH7350, from the endH7097 of the earthH776, like as the eagleH5404 flieth, a nationH1471 whose tongueH3956 thou understandest not; 50a nationH1471 of fierceH5794 countenance, which regardeth not the person of the oldH2205, nor is kind to the youngH5288; 51and he shall eatH398 the fruitH6529 of thy cattleH929, and the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127, until thou be destroyedH8045; for he shall not leaveH7604 thee corn, newH8492 wineH8492, or oilH3323, offspring of thy kine, or increase of thy sheepH6629, until he have destroyedH8045 thee. 52And he shall besiege thee in all thy gatesH8179, until thy highH1364 and strong wallsH2346 wherein thou trustedst comeH3381 down, throughout all thy landH776; and he shall besiege thee in all thy gatesH8179 in all thy landH776, which Jehovah thy 12GodH430 hath givenH5414 thee. 53And in the siegeH4692, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemiesH341 shall distressH4689 thee, thou shalt eatH398 the fruitH6529 of thine own bodyH1320, the fleshH1320 of thy sonsH1121 and of thy daughtersH1323 whom Jehovah thy 13GodH430 hath givenH5414 thee. 54The eyeH5869 of the manH376 in thy midst that is tenderH7390 and veryH3966 luxurious shall be evilH7489 towards his brotherH251, and the wifeH802 of his bosomH2436, and the residue of his children which he hath leftH3498; 55so that he will not giveH5414 to any of them of the fleshH1320 of his children that he eateth, because he hath nothing leftH7604 him in the siegeH4692 and in the straitness wherewith thine enemiesH341 shall distressH4689 thee in all thy gatesH8179. 56The eyeH5869 of the tenderH7390 and luxurious woman in thy midst who would not attempt to setH3322 the soleH3709 of her footH7272 upon the groundH776 from luxuriousness and from tenderness, shall be evilH7489 toward the husbandH376 of her bosomH2436, and her sonH1121, and her daughterH1323, 57because of her afterbirth which hath comeH3318 out between her feetH7272, and her children whom she shall bearH3205; for she shall secretly eatH398 them for want of everythingH3605 in the siegeH4692 and in the straitness wherewith thine enemyH341 shall distressH4689 thee in thy gatesH8179. 58If thou wilt not takeH8104 heedH8104 to do all the wordsH1697 of this lawH8451 that are writtenH3789 in this bookH5612, to fearH3372 this gloriousH3513 and fearful nameH8034, JEHOVAH THY GODH430; 59then Jehovah will make thy plaguesH4347 wonderfulH6381, and the plaguesH4347 of thy seedH2233, greatH1419 and persistent plaguesH4347 and evilH7451 and persistent sicknessesH2483; 60and he will bringH7725 upon thee all the diseases of EgyptH4714 which thou art afraidH3025 of, and they shall cleave unto thee. 61AlsoH1571 every sicknessH2483 and every plagueH4347 which is not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of this lawH8451, them will Jehovah bringH5927 upon thee, until thou be destroyedH8045. 62And ye shall beH1961 leftH7604 a smallH4592 company, whereas ye were as the starsH3556 of heavenH8064 for multitudeH7230; because thou hast not hearkened to the voiceH6963 of Jehovah thy 14GodH430. 63And it shall comeH935 to pass, that as Jehovah rejoicedH7797 over you to do you goodH3190 and to multiplyH7235 you, soH3651 Jehovah will rejoiceH7797 over you to cause you to perishH6, and to destroyH8045 you; and ye shall beH1961 plucked from off the landH127 whereunto thou goest to possessH3423 it. 64And Jehovah will scatterH6327 thee among all peoplesH5971, from one endH7097 of the earthH776 even unto the otherH312 endH7097 of the earthH776; and thou shalt there serveH5647 otherH312 15godsH430, whom thou hast not knownH3045, neither thou nor thy fathersH1, woodH6086 and stoneH68. 65And among these nationsH1471 shalt thou have no restH4494, neither shall the soleH3709 of thy footH7272 have a resting-place, and Jehovah shall giveH5414 thee there a trembling heartH3820, languishing of the eyesH5869, and pining of the soulH5315. 66And thy lifeH2416 shall hang in suspense before thee; and thou shalt beH1961 in terror dayH3119 and nightH3915 and shalt beH1961 afraidH6342 of thy lifeH2416. 67In the morningH1242 thou shalt sayH559, Would that it were even! and in the eveningH6153 thou shalt sayH559, Would that it were morningH1242! through the fright of thy heartH3824 wherewith thou shalt be in terrorH6343, and through the sight of thine eyesH5869 which thou shalt seeH7200. 68And Jehovah will bringH7725 thee into EgyptH4714 againH5750 with shipsH591, by the wayH1870 whereof I saidH559 unto thee, Thou shalt seeH7200 it againH5750 no more; and there ye shall be soldH4376 unto your enemiesH341 for bondmen and bondwomen, and there shall be no man to buyH7069 [you].
