Deuteronomy 17
Darby Bible
1Thou shalt not sacrificeH2076 to Jehovah thy 1GodH430 an oxH7794 or sheepH7716 wherein is a defect, or anything badH7451; for it is an abominationH8441 to Jehovah thy 2GodH430. 2If there be foundH4672 in thy midstH7130 in any of thy gatesH8179 which Jehovah thy 3GodH430 giveth thee, manH376 or womanH802, that doeth what is evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah thy 4GodH430, in transgressing his covenantH1285, 3and goeth and serveth otherH312 5godsH430, and boweth downH7812 to them, either to the sunH8121 or to the moonH3394, or to the whole hostH6635 of heavenH8064, which I have not commandedH6680; 4and it be toldH5046 thee, and thou hearest of it; then thou shalt makeH6213 thorough inquiry, and if it be truthH571 [and] the thingH1697 be certainH3559, that this abominationH8441 hath been wrought in IsraelH3478, 5thou shalt bringH3318 forthH3318 that manH376 or that womanH802, who committed that wickedH7451 thingH1697, unto thy gatesH8179, the manH376 or the womanH802, and shalt stoneH68 them with stonesH68, that they dieH4191. 6At the mouthH6310 of twoH8147 witnessesH5707, or threeH7969 witnessesH5707, shall he that is to dieH4191 be putH4191 to deathH4191: he shall not be putH4191 to deathH4191 at the mouthH6310 of oneH259 witnessH5707. 7The handsH3027 of the witnessesH5707 shall beH1961 firstH7223 upon him to putH4191 him to deathH4191, and afterwards the handsH3027 of all the peopleH5971; and thou shalt putH4191 evilH7451 away from thy midstH7130. 8If there ariseH6965 a matterH1697 too hardH6381 for thee in judgmentH4941, between bloodH1818 and bloodH1818, between causeH7379 and causeH7379, and between stroke and stroke, mattersH1697 of controversy within thy gatesH8179, then shalt thou ariseH6965, and goH5927 up to the placeH4725 which Jehovah thy 6GodH430 will chooseH977. 9And thou shalt comeH935 unto the priestsH3548, the LevitesH3881, and unto the judgeH8199 that shall beH1961 in those daysH3117, and inquire; and they shall declareH5046 unto thee the sentenceH4941 of judgmentH4941; 10and thou shalt do according to the tenor of the wordH1697, which they of that placeH4725 which Jehovah will chooseH977 shall declareH5046 unto thee; and thou shalt takeH8104 heedH8104 to do according to all that they instructH3384 thee: 11according to the sentenceH4941 of the lawH8451 which they shall declareH5046 unto thee, and according to the judgmentH4941 which they shall tellH5046 thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the wordH1697 which they shall declareH5046 unto thee, to the rightH3225 handH3225, or the left. 12And the manH376 that shall actH6213 presumptuously, and not hearken unto the priestH3548 that standeth to serveH8334 there before Jehovah thy 7GodH430, or unto the judgeH8199, that manH376 shall dieH4191; and thou shalt putH4191 away evilH7451 from IsraelH3478. 13And all the peopleH5971 shall hearH8085, and fearH3372, and no more actH2102 presumptuouslyH2102. 14When thou comest unto the landH776 which Jehovah thy 8GodH430 giveth thee, and shalt possessH3423 it, and shalt dwellH3427 therein, and shalt sayH559, I will setH7760 a kingH4428 over me, like all the nationsH1471 that are about me; 15thou shalt only setH7760 him kingH4428 over thee whom Jehovah thy 9GodH430 will chooseH977: from among thy brethren shalt thou setH7760 a kingH4428 over thee; thou mayest not setH7760 a foreignerH5237 over thee, who is not thy brotherH251. 16OnlyH7535 he shall not multiplyH7235 horsesH5483 to himself, nor lead backH7725 the peopleH5971 to EgyptH4714, to multiplyH7235 horsesH5483; for Jehovah hath saidH559 unto you, Ye shall not returnH7725 againH5750 any more that wayH1870. 17Neither shall he multiplyH7235 wives to himself, that his heartH3824 turnH5493 not awayH5493; neither shall he greatly multiplyH7235 to himself silverH3701 and goldH2091. 18And it shall beH1961, when he sitteth upon the throneH3678 of his kingdomH4467, that he shall writeH3789 for himself a copyH4932 of this lawH8451 in a bookH5612 out of that which is before the priestsH3548, the LevitesH3881; 19and it shall beH1961 with him, and he shall readH7121 therein all the daysH3117 of his life; that he may learnH3925 to fearH3372 Jehovah his 10GodH430, to keepH8104 all the wordsH1697 of this lawH8451 and these statutesH2706, to do them; 20that his heartH3824 be not liftedH7311 up above his brethren, and that he turnH5493 not asideH5493 from the commandmentH4687, to the rightH3225 handH3225, or to the left; that he may prolongH748 his daysH3117 in his kingdomH4467, he, and his sonsH1121, in the midstH7130 of IsraelH3478.
