Deuteronomy 5

1Then MosesH4872 summonedH7121 allH3605 IsraelH3478 and saidH559H413 to themH413:1

HearH8085, O IsraelH3478, the statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941 thatH834 IH595 declareH1696 in your hearingH241 this dayH3117. LearnH3925 themH853 and observe themH6213 carefullyH8104. 2The LORDH3068 our GodH430 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with usH5973 at HorebH2722.2

3HeH3068 did notH3808 makeH3772 thisH2063 covenantH1285 withH854 our fathersH1, butH3588 withH854H587H428 allH3605 of us who are aliveH2416 here todayH6311H3117. 4The LORDH3068 spokeH1696 with youH5973 faceH6440 to faceH6440 out ofH8432 the fireH784 on the mountainH2022.

The Ten Commandments

(Exodus 20:1–17)

5At thatH1931 timeH6256 IH595 was standingH5975 betweenH996 the LORDH3068 and youH996 to declareH5046 to you the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, becauseH3588 you were afraidH3372 ofH6440 the fireH784 and would notH3808 go upH5927 the mountainH2022. And He saidH559: 6“IH595 am the LORDH3068 your GodH430, whoH834 brought you outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, out of the houseH1004 of slaveryH5650.

7You shall haveH1961 noH3808 otherH312 godsH430 beforeH5921 MeH6440.3 8You shall notH3808 makeH6213 for yourself an idolH6459 in the formH8544 of anythingH3605 in the heavensH8064 aboveH4605, on the earthH776 belowH8478, or in the watersH4325 beneathH8478. 9You shall notH3808 bow downH7812 to themH3808 or worship themH5647; forH3588 IH595, the LORDH3068 your GodH430, am a jealousH7067 GodH410, visitingH6485 the iniquityH5771 of the fathersH1 onH5921 their childrenH1121H5921 to the thirdH8029H5921 and fourthH7256 generations of those who hate MeH8130, 10but showingH6213 loving devotionH2617 to a thousandH505 generations4 of those who love MeH157 and keepH8104 My commandmentsH4687. 11You shall notH3808 takeH5375 the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430 in vainH7723, forH3588 the LORDH3068 will notH3808 leave anyone unpunishedH5352 whoH834 takesH5375 His nameH8034 in vainH7723. 12ObserveH8104 the SabbathH7676 dayH3117 by keeping it holyH6942, asH834 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 has commanded youH6680. 13SixH8337 daysH3117 you shall laborH5647 and doH6213 allH3605 your workH4399, 14but the seventhH7637 dayH3117 is a SabbathH7676 to the LORDH3068 your GodH430, on which you must notH3808 doH6213 anyH3605 workH4399—neither youH859, nor your sonH1121 or daughterH1323, nor your manservantH5650 or maidservantH519, nor your oxH7794 or donkeyH2543 or anyH3605 of your livestockH929, nor the foreignerH1616 within your gatesH8179, so thatH4616 your manservantH5650 and maidservantH519 may restH5117 as you doH3644. 15RememberH2142 thatH3588 you wereH1961 a slaveH5650 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and that the LORDH3068 your GodH430 brought you outH3318 of thereH8033 with a mightyH2389 handH3027 and an outstretchedH5186 armH2220. Moses Intercedes for the People

(Exodus 20:18–21; Hebrews 12:18–29)

The LORDH3068 spokeH1696 theseH428 commandmentsH1697 in a loudH1419 voiceH6963 toH413 your wholeH3605 assemblyH6951 out ofH8432 the fireH784, the cloudH6051, and the deep darknessH6205 on the mountainH2022; He addedH3254 nothing moreH3808. And He wrote themH3789 onH5921 twoH8147 tabletsH3871 of stoneH68 and gave themH5414 to meH413.

23

And when you heardH8085 the voiceH6963 out ofH8432 the darknessH2822 while the mountainH2022 was blazingH1197 with fireH784, allH3605 the headsH7218 of your tribesH7626 and your eldersH2205 approachedH7126 meH413, 24and you saidH559, “BeholdH2005, the LORDH3068 our GodH430 has shown usH7200 His gloryH3519 and greatnessH1433, and we have heardH8085 His voiceH6963 out ofH8432 the fireH784. TodayH3117H2088 we have seenH7200 thatH3588 a manH120 can liveH2421 even if GodH430 speaksH1696 withH854 him. 25But nowH6258, whyH4100 should we dieH4191? ForH3588 thisH2063 greatH1419 fireH784 will consume usH398, and we will dieH4191, ifH518 weH587 hearH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 our GodH430 any longerH5750. 26ForH3588 whoH4310 of allH3605 fleshH1320 has heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of the livingH2416 GodH430 speakingH1696 out ofH8432 the fireH784, as weH3644 have, and survivedH2421? 27Go nearH7126 and listenH8085 to allH3605 thatH834 the LORDH3068 our GodH430 saysH559. Then youH859 can tellH1696H413 usH853 everythingH3605 the LORDH3068 our GodH430H413 tells youH1696; we will listenH8085 and obeyH6213.”

28And the LORDH3068 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 you spokeH1696 to meH413, andH3068 He saidH559 to meH413, “I have heardH8085 the wordsH1697 thatH834 theseH2088 peopleH5971 have spokenH1696 to youH413. They have done wellH3190 in allH3605 thatH834 they have spokenH1696. 29If onlyH4310H5414 they hadH1961 suchH2088 a heartH3824 to fearH3372 MeH853 and keepH8104 allH3605 My commandmentsH4687 alwaysH3605H3117, so thatH4616 it might be wellH3190 with them and with their childrenH1121 foreverH5769. 30GoH1980 and tellH559 them: ‘ReturnH7725 to your tentsH168.’ 31But youH859 standH5975 hereH6311 with MeH5978, that I may speakH1696 to youH413 allH3605 the commandmentsH4687 and statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941 you are to teach themH3925 to followH6213 in the landH776 thatH834 IH595 am givingH5414 them to possessH3423.”

32So be carefulH8104 to doH6213 asH834 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 has commanded youH6680; you are notH3808 to turn asideH5493 to the rightH3225 or to the leftH8040. 33You must walkH1980 in allH3605 the waysH1870 thatH834 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 has commanded youH6680, so thatH4616 you may liveH2421 and prosperH2895 and prolongH748 your daysH3117 in the landH776 thatH834 you will possessH3423.
