Deuteronomy 21
Darby Bible
1If one be foundH4672 slain in the landH127 which Jehovah thy 1GodH430 giveth thee to possessH3423, lying in the fieldH7704, [and] it be not knownH3045 who hath smitten him, 2then thine eldersH2205 and thy judgesH8199 shall goH3318 forthH3318, and they shall measureH4058 unto the citiesH5892 which are roundH5439 about him that is slainH2491; 3and the cityH5892 that is nearestH7138 unto him that is slainH2491, even the eldersH2205 of that cityH5892 shall takeH3947 a heiferH5697 that hath not beenH1961 wrought with, that hath not drawnH4900 in the yokeH5923; 4and the eldersH2205 of that cityH5892 shall bringH3381 down the heiferH5697 unto an ever-flowing watercourse, which is not tilled, nor is it sownH2232, and shall breakH6202 the heifer's neckH6202 there in the watercourse; 5and the priestsH3548 the sonsH1121 of LeviH3878 shall come near; for them Jehovah thy 2GodH430 hath chosenH977 to do service unto him, and to blessH1288 in the nameH8034 of Jehovah; and according to their word shall beH1961 every controversy and every stroke. 6And all the eldersH2205 of that cityH5892, that are nearestH7138 unto him that is slainH2491, shall washH7364 their handsH3027 over the heiferH5697 whose neckH6202 is brokenH6202 in the watercourse, 7and shall answerH6030 and sayH559, Our handsH3027 have not shedH8210 this bloodH1818, neither have our eyesH5869 seenH7200 it. 8Forgive thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, whom thou, Jehovah, hast redeemedH6299, and lay not innocentH5355 bloodH1818 to the charge of thy peopleH5971 IsraelH3478; and the bloodH1818 shall be expiated for them. 9So shalt thou put away innocentH5355 bloodH1818 from thy midstH7130, when thou shalt do what is rightH3477 in the eyesH5869 of Jehovah. 10When thou goest forthH3318 to warH4421 against thine enemiesH341, and Jehovah thy 3GodH430 delivereth them into thy handsH3027, and thou hast takenH7617 captivesH7628 of them, 11and thou seest among the captivesH7633 a womanH802 of beautifulH3303 formH8389, and hast a desire unto her, and takest her as thy wifeH802; 12then thou shalt bringH935 her home to thy houseH1004; and she shall shaveH1548 her headH7218, and pare her nails; 13and she shall put the clothesH8071 of her captivityH7633 from off her, and shall abide in thy houseH1004, and bewail her fatherH1 and motherH517 a full monthH3391, and afterwards thou mayest goH935 in unto her, and beH1961 her husbandH1167, and she shall beH1961 thy wifeH802. 14And it shall beH1961, if thou have no delightH2654 in her, then thou shalt let her goH7971 according to her desireH5315; but thou shalt in no wise sellH4376 her for moneyH3701; thou shalt not treat her as a slave, because thou hast humbled her. 15If a manH376 have twoH8147 wivesH802, oneH259 beloved, and oneH259 hatedH8130, and they have borneH3205 him children, both the beloved and the hatedH8130, and the firstbornH1060 sonH1121 beH1961 hers that wasH1961 hatedH8130; 16then it shall beH1961, in the dayH3117 that he maketh his sonsH1121 to inheritH5157 what he hath, that he may not make the sonH1121 of the beloved firstbornH1060 before the sonH1121 of the hatedH8130, who is the firstbornH1060; 17but he shall acknowledgeH5234 as firstbornH1060 the sonH1121 of the hatedH8130, by givingH5414 him a double portion of all that is foundH4672 with him; for he is the firstfruits of his vigour: the rightH4941 of the firstbornH1060 is his. 18If a manH376 have an unmanageable and rebelliousH4784 sonH1121, who hearkeneth not unto the voiceH6963 of his fatherH1, nor unto the voiceH6963 of his motherH517, and they have chastened him, but he hearkeneth not unto them; 19then shall his fatherH1 and his motherH517 lay hold on him, and bringH3318 him out unto the eldersH2205 of his cityH5892, and unto the gateH8179 of his placeH4725; 20and they shall sayH559 unto the eldersH2205 of his cityH5892, This our sonH1121 is unmanageable and rebelliousH4784, he hearkeneth not unto our voiceH6963; he is a profligate and a drunkard. 21And all the menH376 of his cityH5892 shall stoneH68 him with stonesH68, that he dieH4191. And thou shalt putH4191 evilH7451 away from thy midstH7130; and all IsraelH3478 shall hearH8085 and fearH3372. 22And if a manH376 have committed a sinH2399 worthy of deathH4191, and he beH1961 putH4191 to deathH4191, and thou have hangedH8518 him on a treeH6086, 23his body shall not remainH3885 all night upon the treeH6086, but thou shalt in any wise buryH6912 him that dayH3117 (for he that is hangedH8518 is a curseH7045 of 4GodH430); and thou shalt not defileH2930 thy landH127, which Jehovah thy 5GodH430 giveth thee for an inheritanceH5159.
