Deuteronomy 4
Darby Bible
1And nowH6258, IsraelH3478, hearken to the statutesH2706 and to the ordinancesH4941 which I teachH3925 you, to do [them], that ye may liveH2421, and goH935 in and possessH3423 the landH776 which Jehovah the 1GodH430 of your fathersH1 giveth you. 2Ye shall not addH3254 to the wordH1697 which I commandH6680 you, neither shall ye takeH8104 from it, that ye may keepH8104 the commandmentsH4687 of Jehovah your 2GodH430 which I commandH6680 you. 3Your eyesH5869 have seenH7200 what Jehovah did because of Baal-PeorH1187; for all the menH376 that followed Baal-PeorH1187, Jehovah thy 3GodH430 hath destroyedH8045 them from among you; 4but ye that did cleave to Jehovah your 4GodH430 are aliveH2416 every one of you this dayH3117. 5SeeH7200, I have taughtH3925 you statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941, even as Jehovah my 5GodH430 commandedH6680 me, that ye may do soH3651 in the landH776 into which ye enter to possessH3423 it. 6And ye shall keepH8104 and do them; for that will be your wisdomH2451 and your understandingH995 before the eyesH5869 of the peoplesH5971 that shall hearH8085 all these statutesH2706, and sayH559, Verily this greatH1419 nationH1471 is a wiseH2450 and understandingH995 peopleH5971. 7For what greatH1419 nationH1471 is there that hath 6GodH430 near to them as Jehovah our 7GodH430 is in everythingH3605 we callH7121 upon him for? 8And what greatH1419 nationH1471 is there that hath righteousH6662 statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941, as all this lawH8451 which I setH5414 before you this dayH3117? 9OnlyH7535 take heedH8104 to thyself, and keepH8104 thy soulH5315 diligently, lestH6435 thou forgetH7911 the thingsH1697 that thine eyesH5869 have seenH7200 (and lestH6435 they departH5493 from thy heartH3824 all the daysH3117 of thy lifeH5315; but thou shalt makeH3045 them knownH3045 to thy sonsH1121 and to thy sons' sonsH1121), 10the dayH3117 that thou stoodest before Jehovah thy 8GodH430 in HorebH2722, when Jehovah saidH559 to me, Gather me the peopleH5971 together, that I may cause them to hearH8085 my wordsH1697, that they may learnH3925 them, and fearH3372 me all the daysH3117 that they live upon the earthH127, and teachH3925 them to their children. 11And ye came near and stoodH5975 under the mountainH2022; and the mountainH2022 burnedH1197 with fireH784 to the heartH3820 of heavenH8064, with darknessH2822, cloudsH6051, and obscurity. 12And Jehovah spokeH1696 to you from the midstH8432 of the fireH784: ye heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of the wordsH1697, but ye sawH7200 no formH8544; only [ye heardH8085] a voiceH6963. 13And he declaredH5046 to you his covenantH1285, which he commandedH6680 you to do, the tenH6235 wordsH1697; and he wroteH3789 them on twoH8147 tables of stoneH68. 14And Jehovah commandedH6680 me at that timeH6256 to teachH3925 you statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941, that ye might do them in the landH776 whither ye are passingH5674 over to possessH3423 it. 15And takeH8104 great heedH8104 to your soulsH5315 (for ye sawH7200 no formH8544 on the dayH3117 that Jehovah spokeH1696 to you in HorebH2722 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784), 16lestH6435 ye corruptH7843 yourselves, and makeH6213 you a graven imageH6459, the formH8544 of any figure, the patternH8403 of maleH2145 or femaleH5347, 17the patternH8403 of any beast that is on the earthH776, the patternH8403 of any wingedH3671 fowl that flieth in the heavenH8064, 18the patternH8403 of anything that creepeth on the groundH776, the patternH8403 of any fishH1710 that is in the watersH4325 under the earthH776; 19and lestH6435 thou liftH5375 up thine eyesH5869 to the heavensH8064, and seeH7200 the sunH8121, and the moonH3394, and the starsH3556, the whole hostH6635 of heavenH8064, and be drawn awayH5375 and bowH7812 downH7812 to them and serveH5647 them, which Jehovah thy 9GodH430 hath assigned unto all peoplesH5971 under the whole heavenH8064. 20But you hath Jehovah takenH3947, and hath broughtH3318 you forthH3318 out of the ironH1270 furnaceH3564, out of EgyptH4714, that ye might beH1961 to him a peopleH5971 of inheritanceH5159, as it is this dayH3117. 21And Jehovah was angryH599 with me on your account, and sworeH7650 that I should not goH935 over the JordanH3383, and that I should not enter in to that goodH2896 landH776 which Jehovah thy 10GodH430 giveth thee [for] an inheritanceH5159; 22for I shall dieH4191 in this landH776, I shall not go over the JordanH3383; but ye shall go over, and possessH3423 this goodH2896 landH776. 23TakeH8104 heedH8104 to yourselves lestH6435 ye forgetH7911 the covenantH1285 of Jehovah your 11GodH430, which he madeH6213 with you, and makeH6213 yourselves a graven imageH6459, the formH8544 of anything which Jehovah thy 12GodH430 hath forbidden thee. 24For Jehovah thy 13GodH430 is a consumingH398 fireH784, a jealousH7067 14GodH430. 25When thou begettest sonsH1121, and sons' sonsH1121, and ye have remained long in the landH776, and shall corruptH7843 yourselves, and makeH6213 a graven imageH6459, the formH8544 of anything, and do evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah thy 15GodH430, to provokeH3707 him to angerH3707, 26I call heavenH8064 and earthH776 to witness against you this dayH3117, that ye shall soon utterly perishH6 from off the landH776 whereunto ye passH5674 over the JordanH3383 to possessH3423 it: ye shall not prolongH748 your daysH3117 on it, but shall be utterly destroyedH8045. 27And Jehovah will scatterH6327 you among the peoplesH5971, and ye shall be leftH7604 a small company among the nationsH1471 to which Jehovah will lead you. 28And ye shall there serveH5647 16godsH430, the workH4639 of men's handsH3027, woodH6086 and stoneH68, which neither seeH7200, nor hearH8085, nor eatH398, nor smellH7306. 29And from thence ye shall seekH1245 Jehovah thy 17GodH430, and thou shalt findH4672 him, if thou shalt seekH1245 him with thy whole heartH3824 and with thy whole soulH5315. 30In thy tribulation, and when all these thingsH1697 shall come upon thee, at the endH319 of daysH3117, thou shalt returnH7725 to Jehovah thy 18GodH430, and shalt hearken to his voiceH6963, 31— for Jehovah thy 19GodH430 is a merciful 20GodH430, — he will not forsake thee, neither destroyH7843 thee, nor forgetH7911 the covenantH1285 of thy fathersH1 which he sworeH7650 unto them. 32For askH7592 now of the daysH3117 that are past, which were before thee, since the dayH3117 that 21GodH430 createdH1254 manH120 on the earthH776, and from oneH2088 endH7097 of the heavensH8064 to the other endH7097 of the heavensH8064, whether there hath beenH1961 anythingH1697 as this greatH1419 thingH1697 is, or if anythingH1697 hath beenH1961 heardH8085 like it? 33Did [ever] peopleH5971 hearH8085 the voiceH6963 of 22GodH430 speakingH1696 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784, as thou hast heardH8085, and liveH2421? 34Or hath 23GodH430 essayed to comeH935 to takeH3947 him a nationH1471 from the midstH7130 of a nationH1471, by trials, by signsH226, and by wondersH4159, and by warH4421, and by a powerful handH3027, and by a stretched-outH5186 armH2220, and by greatH1419 terrorsH4172, according to all that Jehovah your 24GodH430 did for you in EgyptH4714 before your eyesH5869? 35Unto thee it was shewn, that thou mightest knowH3045 that Jehovah, he is 25GodH430 — there is none other besides him. 36From the heavensH8064 he madeH8085 thee hearH8085 his voiceH6963, that he might instruct thee; and on the earthH776 he shewed thee his greatH1419 fireH784; and thou heardest his wordsH1697 from the midstH8432 of the fireH784. 37And because he lovedH157 thy fathersH1, and choseH977 their seedH2233 after them, he broughtH3318 thee out with his countenance, with his greatH1419 powerH3581, out of EgyptH4714, 38to dispossessH3423 nationsH1471 from before thee greaterH1419 and mightierH6099 than thou art, to bringH935 thee in, to giveH5414 thee their landH776 for an inheritanceH5159, as it is this dayH3117. 39Thou shalt knowH3045 therefore this dayH3117, and consider it in thy heartH3824, that Jehovah, he is 26GodH430 in the heavensH8064 above, and on the earthH776 beneath: [there is] none else. 40And thou shalt keepH8104 his statutesH2706, and his commandmentsH4687, which I commandH6680 thee this dayH3117, that it may be wellH3190 with thee and with thy sonsH1121 after thee, and that thou mayest prolongH748 thy daysH3117 on the landH127 which Jehovah thy 27GodH430 giveth thee, for ever. 41ThenH227 MosesH4872 separatedH914 threeH7969 citiesH5892 on this sideH5676 the JordanH3383 toward the sun-rising, 42that the manslayer might fleeH5127 thither, who should kill his neighbour unawares, and hatedH8130 him not previously, that fleeingH5127 to oneH259 of these citiesH5892, he might live: 43BezerH1221 in the wildernessH4057, in the plateau, of the Reubenites, and RamothH7216 in GileadH1568, of the Gadites, and GolanH1474 in BashanH1316, of the Manassites. 44And this is the lawH8451 which MosesH4872 setH7760 before the children of IsraelH3478: 45these are the testimonies, and the statutesH2706, and the ordinancesH4941 that MosesH4872 declared to the children of IsraelH3478, whenH834 they cameH3318 out of EgyptH4714, 46on this sideH5676 the JordanH3383, in the valleyH1516 oppositeH4136 to Beth-PeorH1047, in the landH776 of SihonH5511 the kingH4428 of the AmoritesH567, who dweltH3427 in HeshbonH2809, whom MosesH4872 and the children of IsraelH3478 smote whenH834 they cameH3318 out of EgyptH4714; 47and they tookH3423 possessionH3423 of his landH776, and the landH776 of OgH5747 the kingH4428 of BashanH1316, twoH8147 kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567, who were on this sideH5676 the JordanH3383, toward the sun-rising; 48from AroerH6177, which is on the bankH8193 of the river ArnonH769, as far as mount Sion, which is HermonH2768, 49and all the plainH6160 on this sideH5676 the JordanH3383, eastward, and as far as the seaH3220 of the plainH6160, under the slopes of PisgahH6449.
