Deuteronomy 28
Revised Version 1895
1And it shall comeH1961 to passH1961, ifH518 thou shalt hearken diligentlyH8104 unto the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, to observeH8104 to doH6213 allH3605 his commandmentsH4687 whichH834 I commandH6680 thee this dayH3117, that the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 will setH5414 thee on highH1471 aboveH5921 allH3605 the nationsH1471 of the earthH776: 2and allH3605 theseH428 blessingsH1293 shall comeH935 uponH5921 thee, and overtakeH5381 thee, ifH3588 thou shalt hearken unto the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430. 3BlessedH1288 shalt thou be in the cityH5892, and blessedH1288 shalt thou be in the fieldH7704. 4BlessedH1288 shall be the fruitH6529 of thy bodyH990, and the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127, and the fruitH6529 of thy cattleH929, the increaseH7698 of thy kine, and the youngH6251 of thy flockH6629. 5BlessedH1288 shall be thy basketH2935 and thy kneadingtrough. 6BlessedH1288 shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessedH1288 shalt thou be when thou goest outH3318. 7The LORDH3068 shall causeH5414 thine enemiesH341 that riseH6965 upH6965 againstH5921 thee to be smitten beforeH6440 thee: they shall comeH3318 outH3318 againstH5921 thee one wayH1870, and shall fleeH5127 beforeH6440 thee sevenH7651 waysH1870. 8The LORDH3068 shall commandH6680 the blessingH1293 uponH3027 thee in thy barnsH618, and in allH3605 that thou puttest thine handH3027 unto: and he shall blessH1288 thee in the landH776 whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 giveth thee. 9The LORDH3068 shall establishH6965 thee for an holyH6918 peopleH5971 unto himselfH8104, as he hath swornH7650 unto thee; ifH3588 thou shalt keepH8104 the commandmentsH4687 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, and walkH1980 in his waysH1870. 10And allH3605 the peoplesH5971 of the earthH776 shall seeH7200 that thou art calledH7121 by the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068; and they shall be afraidH3372 of thee. 11And the LORDH3068 shall makeH5414 thee plenteous for goodH2896, in the fruitH6529 of thy bodyH990, and in the fruitH6529 of thy cattleH929, and in the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127, in the landH127 whichH834 the LORDH3068 sware unto thy fathersH1 to giveH5414 thee. 12The LORDH3068 shall openH6605 unto thee his goodH2896 treasureH214 the heavenH8064 to giveH5414 the rainH4306 of thy landH776 in itsH3605 seasonH6256, and to blessH1288 allH3605 the workH4639 of thine handH3027: and thou shalt lendH5414 unto manyH7227 nationsH1471, and thou shalt notH3808 borrowH3867. 13And the LORDH3068 shall makeH5414 thee the headH7218, and notH3808 the tailH2180; and thou shalt be aboveH4605 onlyH7535, and thou shalt notH3808 be beneathH4295; ifH3588 thou shalt hearken unto the commandmentsH4687 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, whichH834 I commandH6680 thee this dayH3117, to observeH8104 and to doH6213 them; 14and shalt notH3808 turnH5493 asideH5493 from anyH3605 of the wordsH1697 whichH834 I commandH6680 youH834 this dayH3117, to the rightH3225 handH3225, or to the leftH8040, to goH5493 afterH310 otherH312 godsH430 to serveH5647 them. 15But it shall comeH935 to passH935, ifH518 thou wilt notH3808 hearken unto the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, to observeH8104 to doH6213 allH3605 his commandmentsH4687 and his statutesH2708 whichH834 I commandH6680 thee this dayH3117; that allH3605 theseH428 cursesH7045 shall comeH935 uponH5921 thee, and overtakeH5381 thee. 16CursedH779 shalt thou be in the cityH5892, and cursedH779 shalt thou be in the fieldH7704. 17CursedH779 shall be thy basketH2935 and thy kneadingtrough. 18CursedH779 shall be the fruitH6529 of thy bodyH990, and the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127, the increaseH7698 of thy kine, and the youngH6251 of thy flockH6629. 19CursedH779 shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursedH779 shalt thou be when thou goest outH3318. 20The LORDH3068 shall sendH7971 uponH3027 thee cursing, discomfiture, and rebukeH4045, in allH3605 that thou puttest thine handH3027 unto for to doH6213, untilH5704 thou be destroyedH8045, and untilH5704 thou perishH6 quicklyH4118; becauseH834 of the evilH7455 of thy doingsH4611, wherebyH834 thou hast forsaken meH7971. 21The LORDH3068 shall makeH3615 the pestilenceH1698 cleave unto thee, untilH5704 he have consumedH3615 thee from offH5921 the landH127, whither thou goest in to possessH3423 it. 22The LORDH3068 shall smiteH5221 thee with consumptionH7829, and with feverH6920, and with inflammationH1816, and with fieryH2746 heatH2746, and with the swordH2719, and with blasting, and with mildewH3420; and they shall pursueH7291 thee untilH5704 thou perishH6. 23And thy heavenH8064 that is over thy headH7218 shall be brassH5178, and the earthH776 that is underH8478 thee shall be ironH1270. 24The LORDH3068 shall makeH5414 the rainH4306 of thy landH776 powderH80 and dustH6083: from heavenH8064 shall it comeH3381 downH3381 uponH5921 thee, untilH5704 thou be destroyedH8045. 25The LORDH3068 shall causeH5414 thee to be smitten beforeH6440 thine enemiesH341: thou shalt goH3318 outH3318 one wayH1870 againstH413 them, and shalt fleeH5127 sevenH7651 waysH1870 beforeH6440 them: and thou shalt be tossed to and fro among allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776. 26And thy carcase shall be meat unto allH3605 fowls of the air, and unto the beastsH929 of the earthH776, and there shall be noneH369 to fray them awayH3605. 27The LORDH3068 shall smiteH5221 thee with the boilH7822 of EgyptH4714, and with the emerods, and with the scurvy, and with the itch, whereof thou canst notH3808 be healedH7495. 28The LORDH3068 shall smiteH5221 thee with madnessH7697, and with blindnessH5788, and with astonishment of heartH3824: 29and thou shalt gropeH4959 at noonday, as the blindH5787 gropeth in darknessH653, and thou shalt notH3808 prosperH6743 in thy waysH1870: and thou shalt be onlyH389 oppressedH6231 and spoiled alway, and there shall be noneH369 to saveH3467 thee. 30Thou shalt betrothH781 a wifeH802, and anotherH312 manH376 shall lie with herH802: thou shalt buildH1129 an houseH1004, and thou shalt notH3808 dwellH3427 therein: thou shalt plantH5193 a vineyardH3754, and shalt notH3808 use the fruit thereof. 31Thine oxH7794 shall be slain beforeH6440 thine eyesH5869, and thou shalt notH3808 eatH398 thereof: thine ass shall be violently takenH1497 awayH7725 from beforeH6440 thy faceH6440, and shall notH3808 be restoredH7725 to thee: thy sheepH6629 shall be givenH5414 unto thine enemiesH341, and thou shalt have noneH369 to saveH3467 thee. 32Thy sonsH1121 and thy daughtersH1323 shall be givenH5414 unto anotherH312 peopleH5971, and thine eyesH5869 shall lookH7200, and fail with longing for them allH3605 the dayH3117: and there shall be nought in the powerH3027 of thine handH3027. 33The fruitH6529 of thy groundH127, and allH3605 thy labours, shall a nationH5971 whichH834 thou knowest notH3808 eatH398 upH398; and thou shalt be onlyH7535 oppressedH6231 and crushedH7533 alway: 34soH1961 that thou shalt be madH7696 for the sightH5869 of thine eyesH5869 whichH834 thou shalt seeH7200. 35The LORDH3068 shall smiteH5221 thee in the kneesH1290, and in the legsH7272, with a sore boilH7822, whereof thou canst notH3808 be healedH7495, from the soleH3709 of thy footH7272 unto the crownH6936 of thy headH6936. 36The LORDH3068 shall bringH3045 thee, and thy kingH4428 whichH834 thou shalt setH6965 over thee, unto a nationH1471 whichH834 thou hast notH3808 knownH3045, thou norH3808 thy fathersH1; and there shalt thou serveH5647 otherH312 godsH430, woodH6086 and stoneH68. 37And thou shalt becomeH1961 an astonishment, a proverbH4912, and a bywordH4912, among allH3605 the peoplesH5971 whither the LORDH3068 shall lead thee awayH3605. 38Thou shalt carryH3318 muchH7227 seedH2233 outH3318 intoH3318 the fieldH7704, and shalt gatherH622 littleH4592 in; for the locustH697 shall consumeH2628 it. 39Thou shalt plantH5193 vineyardsH3754 and dress them, but thou shalt neitherH3808 drinkH8354 of the wineH3196, norH3808 gatherH103 the grapes; for the worm shall eatH398 them. 40Thou shalt have oliveH2132 treesH2132 throughoutH3605 allH3605 thy bordersH1366, but thou shalt notH3808 anointH5480 thyself with the oilH8081: for thine oliveH2132 shall cast itsH3605 fruitH3605. 41Thou shalt begetH3205 sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323, but they shall notH3808 be thine; for they shall goH1961 intoH1961 captivityH7628. 42AllH3605 thy treesH6086 and the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127 shall the locust possessH3423. 43The strangerH1616 that is in the midstH7130 of thee shall mountH5927 upH5927 aboveH5921 thee higherH4605 and higherH4605; and thou shalt comeH5927 downH3381 lowerH4295 and lowerH4295. 44He shall lendH3867 to thee, and thou shalt notH3808 lendH3867 to him: he shall be the headH7218, and thou shalt be the tailH2180. 45And allH3605 theseH428 cursesH7045 shall comeH935 uponH5921 thee, and shall pursueH7291 thee, and overtakeH5381 thee, tillH5704 thou be destroyedH8045; becauseH3588 thou hearkenedst notH3808 unto the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, to keepH8104 his commandmentsH4687 and his statutesH2708 whichH834 he commandedH6680 thee: 46and they shall be uponH1961 thee for a signH226 and for a wonderH4159, and uponH1961 thy seedH2233 for everH5769: 47becauseH834 thou servedst notH3808 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 with joyfulness, and with gladnessH8057 of heartH3824, by reasonH834 of the abundanceH7230 of allH3605 things: 48therefore shalt thou serveH5647 thine enemiesH341 whichH834 the LORDH3068 shall sendH7971 againstH5921 thee, in hungerH7458, and in thirstH6772, and in nakednessH5903, and in want of allH3605 things: and he shall putH5414 a yokeH5923 of ironH1270 uponH5921 thy neckH6677, untilH5704 he have destroyedH8045 thee. 49The LORDH3068 shall bringH5375 a nationH1471 againstH5921 thee from farH7350, from the endH7097 of the earthH776, as the eagleH5404 flieth; a nationH1471 whoseH834 tongueH3956 thou shalt notH3808 understandH8085; 50a nationH1471 of fierceH5794 countenanceH6440, whichH834 shall notH3808 regardH6440 the person of the oldH2205, norH3808 shew favour to the youngH5288: 51and he shall eatH398 the fruitH6529 of thy cattleH929, and the fruitH6529 of thy groundH127, untilH5704 thou be destroyedH8045: whichH834 also shall notH3808 leaveH7604 thee corn, wineH8492, or oilH3323, the increaseH7698 of thy kine, or the youngH6251 of thy flockH6629, untilH5704 he have causedH834 thee to perishH6. 52And he shall besiege thee in allH3605 thy gatesH8179, untilH5704 thy highH1364 and fenced wallsH2346 comeH3381 downH3381, whereinH834 thou trustedst, throughoutH3605 allH3605 thy landH776: and he shall besiege thee in allH3605 thy gatesH8179 throughoutH3605 allH3605 thy landH776, whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath givenH5414 thee. 53And thou shalt eatH398 the fruitH6529 of thine own bodyH1320, the fleshH1320 of thy sonsH1121 and of thy daughtersH1323 whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 hath givenH5414 thee; in the siegeH4692 and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemiesH341 shall straiten thee. 54The manH376 that is tenderH7390 among youH834, and veryH3966 delicateH6028, his eyeH5869 shall be evilH7489 toward his brotherH251, and toward the wifeH802 of his bosomH2436, and toward the remnantH3498 of his childrenH1121 whichH834 he hath remainingH3498: 55soH5414 that he will notH398 giveH5414 to anyH3605 of them of the fleshH1320 of his childrenH1121 whomH834 he shall eatH398, becauseH834 he hath nothingH3605 leftH7604 him; in the siegeH4692 and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemyH341 shall straiten thee in allH3605 thy gatesH8179. 56The tenderH7390 and delicateH6028 womanH1323 among youH834, whichH834 would notH3808 adventure to setH3322 the soleH3709 of herH5921 footH7272 uponH5921 the groundH776 for delicatenessH6026 and tenderness, herH5921 eyeH5869 shall be evilH7489 towardH5921 the husbandH376 of herH5921 bosomH2436, and towardH5921 herH5921 sonH1121, and towardH5921 herH5921 daughterH1323; 57and toward herH3605 youngH1121 one that cometh outH3318 from betweenH996 herH3605 feetH7272, and toward herH3605 childrenH1121 whichH834 sheH834 shall bearH3205; for sheH834 shall eatH398 them for want of allH3605 things secretly: in the siegeH4692 and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemyH341 shall straiten thee in thy gatesH8179. 58IfH518 thou wilt notH3808 observeH8104 to doH6213 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of this lawH8451 that are writtenH3789 in this bookH5612, that thou mayest fearH3372 this gloriousH3513 and fearfulH3372 nameH8034, THE LORDH3068 THY GODH430; 59then the LORDH3068 will make thy plaguesH4347 wonderfulH6381, and the plaguesH4347 of thy seedH2233, evenH853 greatH1419 plaguesH4347, and of long continuance, and sore sicknessesH2483, and of long continuance. 60And he will bringH7725 upon thee againH7725 allH3605 the diseasesH4064 of EgyptH4714, whichH834 thou wast afraidH3025 of; and they shall cleave unto thee. 61Also everyH3605 sicknessH2483, and everyH3605 plagueH4347, whichH834 is notH3808 writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of this lawH8451, them will the LORDH3068 bringH5927 uponH5921 thee, untilH5704 thou be destroyedH8045. 62And ye shall be leftH7604 fewH4592 in numberH7230, whereasH8478 ye were as the starsH3556 of heavenH8064 for multitudeH7230; becauseH3588 thou didst notH3808 hearken unto the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430. 63And it shall comeH935 to passH935, that as the LORDH3068 rejoicedH7797 over youH859 to doH3190 youH859 goodH3190, and to multiplyH7235 youH859; soH3651 the LORDH3068 will rejoiceH7797 over youH859 to causeH1961 youH859 to perishH6, and to destroyH8045 youH859; and ye shall be plucked from offH5921 the landH127 whither thou goest in to possessH3423 it. 64And the LORDH3068 shall scatterH6327 thee among allH3605 peoplesH5971, from the one endH7097 of the earthH776 evenH5704 unto the otherH312 endH7097 of the earthH776; and there thou shalt serveH5647 otherH312 godsH430, whichH834 thou hast notH3808 knownH3045, thou norH3808 thy fathersH1, evenH5704 woodH6086 and stoneH68. 65And among theseH1992 nationsH1471 shalt thou findH5414 noH3808 ease, and there shall be noH3808 restH4494 for the soleH3709 of thy footH7272: but the LORDH3068 shall giveH5414 thee there a tremblingH7268 heartH3820, and failingH3631 of eyesH5869, and pining of soulH5315: 66and thy lifeH2416 shall hangH8511 in doubt beforeH5048 thee; and thou shalt fearH6342 nightH3915 and dayH3119, and shalt have noneH3808 assuranceH539 of thy lifeH2416: 67in the morningH1242 thou shalt sayH559, Would GodH559 it were even! and at even thou shalt sayH559, Would GodH559 it were morningH1242! for the fearH6343 of thine heartH3824 whichH834 thou shalt fearH6343, and for the sightH5869 of thine eyesH5869 whichH834 thou shalt seeH7200. 68And the LORDH3068 shall bringH7725 thee intoH4714 EgyptH4714 againH5750 with shipsH591, by the wayH1870 whereof I saidH559 unto thee, Thou shalt seeH7200 it noH3808 moreH5750 againH5750: and there ye shall sellH4376 yourselves unto your enemiesH341 for bondmen and for bondwomen, and noH3808 manH369 shall buyH7069 youH834.
