Luke 1:5-36
5There was in the daysG2250 of HerodG2264, kingG935 of Judæa, a certainG5100 priestG2409 namedG3686 Zacharias, of the course of AbijahG7: and he had a wifeG1135 of the daughtersG2364 of AaronG2, and her nameG3686 was Elisabeth. 6And they wereG1510 both righteousG1342 before GodG2316, walkingG4198 in all the commandmentsG1785 and ordinances of the LordG2962 blamelessG273. 7And they had no childG5043, because that Elisabeth wasG1510 barrenG4723, and they both wereG1510 now well stricken in years.
8NowG1161 it cameG1096 to passG1096, while he executed the priest’s office before GodG2316 in the orderG5010 of his course, 9accordingG2596 to the customG1485 of the priest’s office, his lot was to enterG1525 into the templeG3485 of the LordG2962 and burn incense. 10And the whole multitudeG4128 of the peopleG2992 wereG1510 prayingG4336 without at the hourG5610 of incenseG2368. 11And there appeared unto him an angelG32 of the LordG2962 standingG2476 on the rightG1188 side of the altarG2379 of incenseG2368. 12And Zacharias was troubledG5015 when he sawG3708 him, and fearG5401 fell upon him. 13But the angelG32 saidG3004 unto him, FearG5399 not, Zacharias: because thy supplicationG1162 is heard, and thy wifeG1135 Elisabeth shall bearG1080 thee a sonG5207, and thou shalt callG2564 his nameG3686 JohnG2491. 14And thou shalt have joyG5479 and gladnessG20; and manyG4183 shall rejoiceG5463 at his birth. 15For he shall beG1510 greatG3173 in the sight of the LordG2962, and he shall drinkG4095 no wineG3631 nor strong drinkG4095; and he shall beG1510 filledG4130 with the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, evenG2532 from his mother’sG3384 wombG2836. 16And manyG4183 of the children of IsraelG2474 shall he turnG1994 unto the LordG2962 their GodG2316. 17And he shall goG4281 before his face in the spiritG4151 and powerG1411 of ElijahG2243, to turnG1994 the heartsG2588 of the fathersG3962 to the childrenG5043, and the disobedientG545 to walk in the wisdom of the justG1342; to makeG2090 readyG2090 for the LordG2962 a peopleG2992 preparedG2090 for him. 18And Zacharias saidG3004 unto the angelG32, Whereby shall I knowG1097 this? for I amG1510 an old manG3778, and my wifeG1135 well stricken in years. 19And the angelG32 answeringG611 saidG3004 unto him, I amG1510 GabrielG1043, that standG3936 in the presenceG1799 of GodG2316; and I wasG1510 sentG649 to speakG2980 unto thee, and to bringG2097 thee these good tidings. 20And beholdG2400, thou shalt beG1510 silentG4623 and not ableG1410 to speakG2980, until the dayG2250 that these thingsG3778 shall comeG1096 to passG1096, because thou believedst not my wordsG3056, which shall beG1510 fulfilled in their seasonG2540. 21And the peopleG2992 wereG1510 waiting for Zacharias, and they marvelled while he tarried in the templeG3485. 22And when he cameG1831 out, he could not speakG2980 unto them: and they perceived that he had seenG3708 a visionG3701 in the templeG3485: and he continued making signs unto them, and remained dumb. 23And it cameG1096 to passG1096, whenG5613 the daysG2250 of his ministration were fulfilled, he departedG565 unto his houseG3624.
24And after these daysG2250 Elisabeth his wifeG1135 conceived; and she hid herself fiveG4002 monthsG3376, sayingG3004, 25ThusG3779 hath the LordG2962 done unto me in the daysG2250 wherein he looked upon me, to takeG851 awayG851 my reproach among menG444.
26NowG1161 in the sixthG1623 monthG3376 the angelG32 GabrielG1043 was sentG649 from GodG2316 unto a cityG4172 of GalileeG1056, namedG3686 NazarethG3478, 27to a virginG3933 betrothedG3423 to a manG435 whose nameG3686 was JosephG2501, of the houseG3624 of DavidG1138; and the virgin’sG3933 nameG3686 was MaryG3137. 28And he cameG1525 in unto her, and saidG3004, HailG5463, thou that art highly favored, the LordG2962 is with thee. 29But she wasG1510 greatly troubled at the sayingG3056, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this might beG1510. 30And the angelG32 saidG3004 unto her, FearG5399 not, MaryG3137: for thou hast foundG2147 favorG5485 with GodG2316. 31And beholdG2400, thou shalt conceive in thy wombG1064, and bring forthG5088 a sonG5207, and shalt callG2564 his nameG3686 JESUSG2424. 32He shall beG1510 greatG3173, and shall beG1510 calledG2564 the SonG5207 of the MostG5310 HighG5310: and the LordG2962 GodG2316 shall giveG1325 unto him the throneG2362 of his fatherG3962 DavidG1138: 33and he shall reignG936 over the houseG3624 of JacobG2384 for ever; and of his kingdomG932 there shall beG1510 no endG5056. 34And MaryG3137 saidG3004 unto the angelG32, HowG4459 shall this beG1510, seeing I knowG1097 not a manG435? 35And the angelG32 answeredG611 and saidG3004 unto her, The HolyG40 SpiritG4151 shall comeG1904 upon thee, and the powerG1411 of the MostG5310 HighG5310 shall overshadowG1982 thee: wherefore alsoG2532 the holyG40 thing which is begottenG1080 shall be calledG2564 the SonG5207 of GodG2316. 36And beholdG2400, Elisabeth thy kinswoman, she alsoG2532 hath conceived a sonG5207 in her old age; and this isG1510 the sixthG1623 monthG3376 with her that wasG1510 calledG2564 barrenG4723.
