Isaiah 30
The Worthless Treaty with Egypt
1“WoeH1945 to the rebelliousH5637 childrenH1121,” declaresH5002 the LORDH3068, “to those who carry outH6213 a planH6098 that is notH3808 MineH4480, who formH5258 an allianceH4541, but againstH3808 My willH7307H4616, heaping upH5595 sinH2403 uponH5921 sinH2403.2They set outH1980 to go downH3381 to EgyptH4714 withoutH3808 askingH7592 My adviceH6310, to seek shelterH5756 under Pharaoh’sH6547 protectionH4581 and take refugeH2620 in Egypt’sH4714 shadeH6738.
6This is the burdenH4853 against the beastsH929 of the NegevH5045:
12ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the HolyH6918 One of IsraelH3478 saysH559:
15ForH3588H3541 the LordH136 GODH3069, the HolyH6918 One of IsraelH3478, has saidH559:
God Will Be Gracious
17AH259 thousandH505 will flee atH6440 the threatH1606 of oneH259; atH6440 the threatH1606 of fiveH2568 you will all fleeH5127, untilH5704H518 you are left aloneH3498 like a poleH8650 onH5921 a mountaintopH7218H2022, like a bannerH5251 onH5921 a hillH1389.
O peopleH5971 in ZionH6726 who dwellH3427 in JerusalemH3389, you will weepH1058 noH3808 moreH1058. He will surely be graciousH2603 when you cry for helpH6963H2199; when He hearsH8085, He will answer youH6030. 20The LordH136 will giveH5414 you the breadH3899 of adversityH6862 and the waterH4325 of afflictionH3906, but your TeacherH4175 will no longerH3808 hideH3670 HimselfH5750H1961—with your own eyesH5869 you will seeH7200 Him.
21And whetherH3588 you turn to the rightH541H3588 or to the leftH8041, your earsH241 will hearH8085 this commandH1697 behind youH310H559: “ThisH2088 is the wayH1870. WalkH1980 in it.” 22So you will desecrateH2930 your silver-platedH6826H3701 idolsH6456 and your gold-platedH642H2091 imagesH4541. You will throw them awayH2219 likeH3644 menstrual clothsH1739, sayingH559 to them, “Be goneH6627!”
23Then He will sendH5414 rainH4306 for the seedH2233 thatH834 you have sownH2232 in the groundH127, and the foodH3899 that comesH8393 from your landH127 will beH1961 richH1879 and plentifulH8082. On thatH1931 dayH3117 your cattleH4735 will grazeH7462 in openH7337 pasturesH3733. 24The oxenH504 and donkeysH5895 that workH5647 the groundH127 will eatH398 saltedH2548 fodderH1098, winnowedH2219 with shovelH7371 and pitchforkH4214.
And fromH5921 everyH3605 highH1364H5921 mountainH2022 and everyH3605 raisedH5375 hillH1389, streamsH6388 of waterH4325 will flowH2988 in the dayH3117 of greatH7227 slaughterH2027, when the towersH4026 fallH5307. 26The light of the moonH216H3842 will beH1961 as bright as the sunH216H2535, and the lightH216 of the sunH2535 will beH1961 seven times brighterH7659—like the lightH216 of sevenH7651 daysH3117—on the dayH3117 that the LORDH3068 binds upH2280 the brokennessH7667 of His peopleH5971 and healsH7495 the woundsH4273 He has inflictedH4347.
