2forfortyG5065daysἡμέραςhēmerasG2250,being temptedπειραζόμενοςpeirazomenosG3985by the devilδιαβόλου.diabolouG1228.And He ateG2068nothingοὐκ οὐδὲνouk oudenG3756 G3762duringἐνenG1722thoseἐκείναις,ekeinaisG1565daysἡμέραιςhēmeraisG2250,and when they had endedσυντελεσθεισῶνsuntelestheisōnG4931,He was hungryἐπείνασεν.epeinasenG3983.

3And the devilδιάβολος·diabolosG1228saidG3004to Him, “IfεἰeiG1487You are the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of Godθεοῦ,theouG2316,tellG3004thisτούτῳtoutōG3778stoneλίθῳlithōG3037to becomeγένηταιgenētaiG1096breadἄρτος.artosG740.”

4And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611him,“It is writtenγέγραπταιgegraptaiG1125: ‘ManἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444shall not liveζήσεταιzēsetaiG2198on breadἄρτῳartōG740aloneμόνῳmonōG3441.’”

5And he ledG321Him upG321and showedἔδειξενedeixenG1166Him allπάσαςpasasG3956the kingdomsβασιλείαςbasileiasG932ofthe worldοἰκουμένηςoikoumenēsG3625in a momentστιγμῇstigmēaG4743of timeχρόνουchronouG5550.

6And the devilδιάβολος·diabolosG1228saidG3004to Him, “I will giveδώσωdōsōG1325You allἅπασανhapasanG537thisταύτηνtautēnG3778domainἐξουσίανexousianG1849andits gloryδόξανdoxanG1391,for it has been handedG3860overG3860to me, and I giveδίδωμιdidōmiG1325it to whomeverᾧ ἐὰνhō eanG3739 G1437I wantθέλωthelōG2309.

7ThereforeοὖνounG3767ifἐὰνeanG1437YouworshipπροσκυνήσῃςproskunēsēsG4352beforeἐνώπιονenōpionG1799me, it shall allπᾶσα.pasaG3956be YoursG4674.”

8JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424repliedἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611 G3004to him,“It is writtenγέγραπται·gegraptaiG1125: ‘You shall worshipπροσκυνήσειςproskunēseisG4352the LordκύριονkurionG2962your GodθεόνtheonG2316and serveλατρεύσεις.¶latreuseisG3000Him onlyμόνῳmonōG3441.’”

9And he broughtἬγαγενĒgagenG71Him into JerusalemἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmG2419and had Him standἔστησενestēsenG2476on the pinnacleπτερύγιονpterugionG4419of the templeG2413,and saidG3004to Him, “IfεἰeiG1487You are the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of Godθεοῦ,theouG2316,throwβάλεbaleG906YourselfG4572downκάτω·katōG2736fromG1782hereἐντεῦθενenteuthenG1782;

10for it is writtenγέγραπταιgegraptaiG1125: ‘He will giveἐντελεῖταιenteleitaiG1781His angelsἀγγέλοιςangeloisG32ordersG1781concerningπερὶperiG4012You, to protectδιαφυλάξαιdiaphulaxaiG1314You,’

11and, ‘On theirhandsχειρῶνcheirōnG5495they will liftἀροῦσίνarousinG142You up,SoG3379thatG3379You do notG3379strikeπροσκόψῃςproskopsēsG4350Your footπόδαpodaG4228againstπρὸςprosG4314a stoneλίθονlithonG3037.’”

12And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004to him,“It has been statedG3004, ‘You shall not putG1598the LordκύριονkurionG2962your GodθεόνtheonG2316toG1598theG1598testἐκπειράσειςekpeiraseisG1598.’”

13And sowhen the devilδιάβολοςdiabolosG1228had finishedσυντελέσαςsuntelesasG4931everyπάνταpantaG3956temptationπειρασμὸνpeirasmonG3986,he leftἀπέστηapestēG868Him untilἄχριachriG891an opportuneκαιροῦ.¶kairouG2540timeG2540.
