Romans 6

Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God

11What shall we say then? Are we to 2continue in sin so that grace may increase? 23May it never be! How shall we who 4died to sin still live in it? 3Or do you not know that all of us who have been 5baptized into 6Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4Therefore we have been 7buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was 8raised from the dead through the 9glory of the Father, so we too might walk in 10newness of life. 5For 11if we have become 12united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be 13in the likeness of His resurrection, 6knowing this, that our 14old 15self was 16crucified with Him, in order that our 17body of sin might be 18done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7for 19he who has died is 20freed from sin.

8Now 21if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9knowing that Christ, having been 22raised from the dead, 23is never to die again; 24death no longer is master over Him. 10For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11Even so consider yourselves to be 25dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

12Therefore do not let sin 26reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13and do not go on 27presenting 28the members of your body to sin as 29instruments of unrighteousness; but 30present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as 31instruments of righteousness to God. 14For 32sin shall not 33be master over you, for 34you are not under law but 35under grace.

15What then? 36Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? 37May it never be! 16Do you not 38know that when you present yourselves to someone as 39slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of 40sin 41resulting in death, or of obedience 42resulting in righteousness? 17But 43thanks be to God that 44though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that 45form of teaching to which you were committed, 18and having been 46freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 1947I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just 48as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, 49resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, 50resulting in sanctification.

20For 51when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21Therefore what 5253benefit were you then 54deriving 55from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is 56death. 22But now having been 57freed from sin and 58enslaved to God, you 59derive your 6061benefit, 62resulting in sanctification, and 63the outcome, eternal life. 23For the wages of 64sin is death, but the free gift of God is 65eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
