5SoG3767 He cameG2064 to a cityG4172 of 1SamariaG4540 calledG3004 SycharG4965, nearG4139 2the parcelG5564 of groundG5564 that 3JacobG2384 gaveG1325 to his sonG5207 JosephG2501; 6and Jacob’sG2384 wellG4077 was thereG1563. SoG3767 JesusG2424, being weariedG2872 from His journeyG3597, was sittingG2516 thusG3779 by the wellG4077. It was aboutG5613 4the sixthG1623 hourG5610.

7There cameG2064 a womanG1135 of SamariaG4540 to drawG501 waterG5204. JesusG2424 saidG3004 to her, “GiveG1325 Me a drinkG4095.” 8For His 5disciplesG3101 had goneG565 awayG565 into 6the cityG4172 to buyG59 foodG5160. 9ThereforeG3767 the 7SamaritanG4542 womanG1135 saidG3004 to Him, “HowG4459 is it that You, beingG1510 a JewG2453, askG154 me for a drinkG4095 since I amG1510 a SamaritanG4542 womanG1135?” (For 8JewsG2453 haveG4798 noG3756 dealingsG4798 with SamaritansG4541.) 10JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to her, “IfG1487 you knewG3609 the giftG1431 of GodG2316, and whoG5101 it is who saysG3004 to you, ‘GiveG1325 Me a drinkG4095,’ you would have askedG154 Him, and He would have givenG1325 you 9livingG2198 waterG5204.” 11She saidG3004 to Him, “10SirG2962, You haveG2192 nothingG3777 to drawG502 with and the wellG5421 is deepG901; whereG4159 thenG3767 do You getG2192 that 11livingG2198 water? 12You are not greaterG3173 than our fatherG3962 JacobG2384, are You, whoG3739 12gaveG1325 us the wellG5421, and drankG4095 of it himselfG846 and his sonsG5207 and his cattleG2353?” 13JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to her, “EveryoneG3956 who drinksG4095 of thisG3778 waterG5204 will thirstG1372 againG3825; 14but whoeverG3739 G302 drinksG4095 of the waterG5204 that I will giveG1325 him 13shall neverG3756 G3361 thirstG1372; but the waterG5204 that I will giveG1325 him will becomeG1096 in him a wellG4077 of waterG5204 springingG242 up to 14eternalG166 lifeG2222.”

15The womanG1135 saidG3004 to Him, “15SirG2962, 16giveG1325 me thisG3778 waterG5204, soG2443 I will not be thirstyG1372 norG3366 comeG1330 all the way hereG1759 to drawG501.” 16He saidG3004 to her, “GoG5217, callG5455 your husbandG435 and comeG2064 hereG1759.” 17The womanG1135 answeredG611 and saidG3004, “I haveG2192 noG3756 husbandG435.” JesusG2424 saidG3004 to her, “You have correctlyG2573 saidG3004, ‘I haveG2192 noG3756 husbandG435’; 18for you haveG2192 hadG2192 fiveG4002 husbandsG435, and the one whomG3739 you nowG3568 haveG2192 is not your husbandG435; thisG3778 you have saidG3004 trulyG227.” 19The womanG1135 saidG3004 to Him, “17SirG2962, I perceiveG2334 that You are 18a prophetG4396. 20 19Our fathersG3962 worshipedG4352 in 20thisG3778 mountainG3735, and you people sayG3004 that 21in JerusalemG2414 is the placeG5117 whereG3699 men oughtG1163 to worshipG4352.” 21JesusG2424 saidG3004 to her, “WomanG1135, believeG4100 Me, 22an hourG5610 is comingG2064 whenG3753 23neitherG3777 in thisG3778 mountainG3735 norG3777 in JerusalemG2414 will you worshipG4352 the FatherG3962. 22 24You worshipG4352 whatG3739 you do not knowG3609; we worshipG4352 whatG3739 we knowG3609, for 25salvationG4991 is from the JewsG2453. 23But 26an hourG5610 is comingG2064, and nowG3568 is, whenG3753 the trueG228 worshipersG4353 will worshipG4352 the FatherG3962 27in spiritG4151 and truthG225; for suchG5108 peopleG5108 the FatherG3962 seeksG2212 to be His worshipersG4352. 24GodG2316 is 28spiritG4151, and thoseG3588 who worshipG4352 Him mustG1163 worshipG4352 29in spiritG4151 and truthG225.” 25The womanG1135 saidG3004 to Him, “I knowG3609 that 30MessiahG3323 is comingG2064 (31He who is calledG3004 ChristG5547); whenG3752 that OneG1565 comesG2064, He will declareG312 allG537 thingsG537 to us.” 26JesusG2424 saidG3004 to her, “32I who speakG2980 to you amG1510 He.”

27At thisG3778 pointG1909 His 33disciplesG3101 cameG2064, and they were amazedG2296 that He had been speakingG2980 with a womanG1135, yetG3305 noG3762 oneG3762 saidG3004, “WhatG5101 do You seekG2212?” orG2228, “WhyG5101 do You speakG2980 with her?” 28SoG3767 the womanG1135 leftG863 her waterpotG5201, and wentG565 into the cityG4172 and saidG3004 to the menG444, 29“ComeG1205, seeG3708 a manG444 34whoG3739 toldG3004 me allG3956 the thingsG3956 that I have doneG4160; 35thisG3778 is not 36the ChristG5547, is it?” 30They wentG1831 out of the cityG4172, and were comingG2064 to Him.
