1 John 2:1-17

1 1My littleG5040 childrenG5040, I am 2writingG1125 theseG3778 thingsG3778 to you soG2443 that you may not sinG264. And ifG1437 anyoneG5100 sinsG264, 3we haveG2192 an 4 5AdvocateG3875 with the FatherG3962, JesusG2424 ChristG5547 the righteousG1342; 2and He HimselfG846 is 6the 7propitiationG2434 for our sinsG266; and not for oursG2251 onlyG3440, but alsoG2532 8for those of the wholeG3650 worldG2889.

3 9By thisG3778 we knowG1097 that we have come to 10knowG1097 Him, ifG1437 we 11keepG5083 His commandmentsG1785. 4The one who saysG3004, “12I have come to 13knowG1097 Him,” and does not keepG5083 His commandmentsG1785, is a 14liarG5583, and 15the truthG225 is not in him; 5but whoeverG3739 G302 16keepsG5083 His wordG3056, in him the 17loveG26 of GodG2316 has trulyG230 been perfectedG5048. 18By thisG3778 we knowG1097 that we are in Him: 6the one who saysG3004 he 19abidesG3306 in Him 20oughtG3784 himselfG846 to walkG4043 in the sameG3779 mannerG3779 as He walkedG4043.

7 21BelovedG27, I am 22not writingG1125 a newG2537 commandmentG1785 to you, but an oldG3820 commandmentG1785 whichG3739 you have hadG2192 23from the beginningG746; the oldG3820 commandmentG1785 is the wordG3056 whichG3739 you have heardG191. 8 24On the otherG3825 handG3825, I am writingG1125 25a newG2537 commandmentG1785 to you, whichG3739 is trueG227 in Him and in you, becauseG3754 26the darknessG4653 is passingG3855 awayG3855 and 27the trueG228 LightG5457 is alreadyG2235 shiningG5316. 9The one who saysG3004 he is in the LightG5457 and yet 28hatesG3404 his 29brotherG80 is in the darknessG4653 untilG2193 nowG737. 10 30The one who lovesG25 his brotherG80 abidesG3306 in the LightG5457 and there is noG3756 causeG4625 for stumblingG4625 in him. 11But the one who 31hatesG3404 his brotherG80 is in the darknessG4653 and 32walksG4043 in the darknessG4653, and does not knowG3609 whereG4226 he is goingG5217 becauseG3754 the darknessG4653 has 33blindedG5186 his eyesG3788.

12I am writingG1125 to you, 34littleG5040 childrenG5040, becauseG3754 35your sinsG266 have been forgivenG863 you for His name’sG3686 sakeG1223. 13I am writingG1125 to you, fathersG3962, becauseG3754 you knowG1097 Him 36who has been from the beginningG746. I am writingG1125 to you, youngG3495 menG3495, becauseG3754 37you have overcomeG3528 38the evilG4190 oneG4190. I have writtenG1125 to you, childrenG3813, becauseG3754 39you knowG1097 the FatherG3962. 14I have writtenG1125 to you, fathersG3962, becauseG3754 you knowG1097 Him 40who has been from the beginningG746. I have writtenG1125 to you, youngG3495 menG3495, becauseG3754 you are 41strongG2478, and the 42wordG3056 of GodG2316 abidesG3306 in you, and 43you have overcomeG3528 the evilG4190 oneG4190.

15Do not loveG25 44the worldG2889 norG3366 the things in the worldG2889. 45IfG1437 anyoneG5100 lovesG25 the worldG2889, the loveG26 of the FatherG3962 is not in him. 16For allG3956 that is in the worldG2889, 46the lustG1939 of the fleshG4561 and 47the lustG1939 of the eyesG3788 and 48the boastfulG212 prideG212 of lifeG979, is not from the FatherG3962, but is from the worldG2889. 17 49The worldG2889 is passingG3855 awayG3855, and also its lustsG1939; but the one who 50doesG4160 the willG2307 of GodG2316 livesG3306 foreverG165.
