2For ifG1487IcauseG3076you sorrowG3076,whoτίςtisG5101thenκαὶkaiG2532will bethe one makingG2165me gladG2165but the one who is madeG3076sorrowfulG3076by me?

3ThisτοῦτοtoutoG3778is the veryG846thingG846IwroteἔγραψαegrapsaG1125you, soἵναinaG2443thatG2443when I cameἐλθὼνelthōnG2064,I would not haveσχῶschōG2192sorrowλύπηνlupēnG3077from those whoὧνhōnG3739oughtἔδειedeiG1163to makeG5463me rejoiceχαίρεινchaireinG5463;havingG3982confidenceG3982in you allπάνταςpantasG3956that my joyχαρὰcharaG5479was the joyof you allπάντωνpantōnG3956.

4For out of muchπολλῆςpollēsG4183afflictionθλίψεωςthlipseōsG2347and anguishσυνοχῆςsunochēsG4928of heartκαρδίαςkardiasG2588IwroteἔγραψαegrapsaG1125to you with manyπολλῶνpollōnG4183tearsδακρύων,dakruōnG1144;not soἵναinaG2443thatἵναinaG2443you would be madeG3076sorrowfulG3076,but that you might knowγνῶτεgnōteG1097the loveἀγάπηνagapēnG26whichἣνhēnG3739I haveἔχωechōG2192especiallyπερισσοτέρωςperissoterōsG4056for you.

5ButifΕἰEiG1487anyoneτιςtisG5100has causedG3076sorrowG3076,he has causedG3076sorrowG3076not for me, but in someG3313degreeG3313--not to sayG1912tooG1912muchG1912--for allπάνταςpantasG3956of you.

6SufficientἱκανὸνhikanonG2425for suchG5108aG5108personG5108isthisαὕτηhautēG3778punishmentἐπιτιμίαepitimiaG2009which was imposedby the majorityG4183,

7soὥστεhōsteG5620thatG5620onG5121theG5121otherG5121handG5121,you should ratherμᾶλλονmallonG3123forgiveχαρίσασθαιcharisasthaiG5483and comfortπαρακαλέσαι,parakalesaiG3870him,otherwiseG3381suchG5108a personG5108might be overwhelmedκαταποθῇkatapothēaG2666by excessiveG4053sorrowλύπῃlupēG3077.
