John 5:2-16
2NowG1161 there is in JerusalemG2414 by 1the sheepG4262 gate a poolG2861, which is calledG1951 2in 3HebrewG1447 4BethesdaG964, havingG2192 fiveG4002 porticoesG4745. 3In theseG3778 layG2621 a multitudeG4128 of thoseG3588 who were sickG770, blindG5185, lameG5560, and witheredG3584, [5waitingG1551 for the movingG2796 of the watersG5204; 4for an angelG32 of the LordG2962 wentG2597 downG2597 at certainG2596 seasonsG2540 into the poolG2861 and stirredG5015 up the waterG5204; whoever thenG3767 firstG4413, afterG3326 the stirringG5016 up of the waterG5204, steppedG1684 in was madeG1096 wellG5199 from whateverG3739G1221 diseaseG3553 with whichG3739 he was afflictedG2722.] 5A manG444 was thereG1563 who had beenG2192 6illG769 for thirty-eightG5144G3638 yearsG2094. 6When JesusG2424 sawG3708 him lyingG2621 there, and knewG1097 that he had alreadyG2235 beenG2192 a longG4183 timeG5550 in that condition, He saidG3004 to him, “Do you wishG2309 to getG1096 wellG5199?” 7The sickG770 man answeredG611 Him, “SirG2962, I haveG2192 noG3756 manG444 to putG906 me into the poolG2861 whenG3752 7the waterG5204 is stirredG5015 up, but whileG1722G3739 I am comingG2064, anotherG243 stepsG2597 downG2597 beforeG4253 me.” 8JesusG2424 saidG3004 to him, “8GetG1453 up, pickG142 up your palletG2895 and walkG4043.” 9ImmediatelyG2112 the manG444 becameG1096 wellG5199, and pickedG142 up his palletG2895 and began to walkG4043.
9NowG1161 it was the SabbathG4521 on that dayG2250. 10SoG3767 10the JewsG2453 were sayingG3004 to the man who was curedG2323, “It is the SabbathG4521, and 11it is not permissibleG1832 for you to carryG142 your palletG2895.” 11But he answeredG611 them, “He who madeG4160 me wellG5199 was the oneG1565 who saidG3004 to me, ‘PickG142 up your palletG2895 and walkG4043.’” 12They askedG2065 him, “WhoG5101 is the manG444 who saidG3004 to you, ‘PickG142 up your pallet and walkG4043’?” 13But the man who was healedG2390 did not knowG3609 whoG5101 it was, for JesusG2424 had slippedG1593 awayG1593 while there was a crowdG3793 in that placeG5117. 14AfterwardG3326G3778 JesusG2424 foundG2147 him in the templeG2413 and saidG3004 to him, “BeholdG2396, you have becomeG1096 wellG5199; do not 12sinG264 anymoreG3371, 13soG2443 that nothingG3361G5100 worseG5501 happensG1096 to you.” 15The manG444 wentG565 awayG565, and toldG3004 14the JewsG2453 that it was JesusG2424 who had madeG4160 him wellG5199. 16For thisG3778 reasonG1223 15the JewsG2453 were persecutingG1377 JesusG2424, becauseG3754 He was doingG4160 theseG3778 thingsG3778 on the SabbathG4521.
