Romans 4
Darby Bible
1What shall we sayG3004 thenG3767 that AbrahamG11 our fatherG3962 accordingG2596 to fleshG4561 has foundG2147? 2For if AbrahamG11 has been justifiedG1344 on the principle of worksG2041, he has whereof to boastG2745: but not before 1GodG2316; 3for what does the scriptureG1124 sayG3004? And AbrahamG11 believedG4100 2GodG2316, and it was reckonedG3049 to him as righteousnessG1343. 4NowG1161 to him that works the rewardG3408 is not reckonedG3049 as of graceG5485, but of debt: 5but to him who does not workG2038, but believesG4100 on him who justifiesG1344 the ungodlyG765, his faithG4102 is reckonedG3049 as righteousnessG1343. 6EvenG2532 as DavidG1138 alsoG2532 declares the blessednessG3108 of the manG444 to whom 3GodG2316 reckons righteousnessG1343 without worksG2041: 7Blessed [they] whose lawlessnesses have been forgivenG863, and whose sinsG266 have been covered: 8blessed [the] manG435 to whom [the] LordG2962 shall not at all reckon sinG266. 9[Does] this blessednessG3108 then [rest] on the circumcisionG4061, or alsoG2532 on the uncircumcisionG203? For we sayG3004 that faithG4102 has been reckonedG3049 to AbrahamG11 as righteousnessG1343. 10HowG4459 thenG3767 has it beenG1510 reckonedG3049? when he wasG1510 in circumcisionG4061, or in uncircumcisionG203? Not in circumcisionG4061, but in uncircumcisionG203. 11And he receivedG2983 [the] signG4592 of circumcisionG4061 [as] sealG4973 of the righteousnessG1343 of faithG4102 which [he had] beingG1510 in uncircumcisionG203, that he might beG1510 [the] fatherG3962 of all them that believeG4100 beingG1510 in uncircumcisionG203, that righteousnessG1343 might beG1510 reckonedG3049 to them alsoG2532; 12and fatherG3962 of circumcisionG4061, not onlyG3440 to those who are of [the] circumcisionG4061, but to those alsoG2532 who walkG4748 in the stepsG2487 of the faithG4102, during uncircumcisionG203, of our fatherG3962 AbrahamG11. 13For [it wasG1510] not by lawG3551 that the promiseG1860 wasG1510 to AbrahamG11, or to his seedG4690, that he should beG1510 heirG2818 of [the] worldG2889, but by righteousnessG1343 of faithG4102. 14For if they which [are] of lawG3551 be heirsG2818, faithG4102 is made vain, and the promiseG1860 made of no effect. 15For lawG3551 works wrathG3709; but whereG3757 no lawG3551 isG1510 neither [isG1510 there] transgressionG3847. 16Therefore [it isG1510] on the principleG3551 of faithG4102, that [it might beG1510] accordingG2596 to graceG5485, in orderG2443 to the promiseG1860 beingG1510 sureG949 to all the seedG4690, not to that onlyG3440 which [isG1510] of the lawG3551, but to that alsoG2532 which [isG1510] of Abraham's faithG4102, who isG1510 fatherG3962 of us all, 17(according as it isG1510 writtenG1125, I have made thee fatherG3962 of manyG4183 nationsG1484,) before the 4GodG2316 whom he believedG4100, who quickens the deadG3498, and callsG2564 the thingsG4183 which beG1510 not as beingG1510; 18who against hopeG1680 believedG4100 in hopeG1680 to his becomingG1096 fatherG3962 of manyG4183 nationsG1484, accordingG2596 to that which wasG1510 spoken, SoG3779 shall thy seedG4690 beG1510: 19and not being weakG770 in faithG4102, he considered not his ownG1438 bodyG4983 already become dead, being about a hundred years old, and the deadening of Sarah's wombG3388, 20and hesitated not at the promiseG1860 of 5GodG2316 through unbeliefG570; but found strength in faithG4102, givingG1325 gloryG1391 to 6GodG2316; 21and beingG1510 fullyG4135 persuaded that what he has promisedG1861 he isG1510 ableG1415 alsoG2532 to do; 22wherefore alsoG2532 it was reckonedG3049 to him as righteousnessG1343. 23NowG1161 it was not writtenG1125 on his accountG1223 aloneG3441 that it was reckonedG3049 to him, 24but on ours alsoG2532, to whom, believingG4100 on him who has raisedG1453 from among [the] deadG3498 JesusG2424 our LordG2962, 25who has been deliveredG3860 for our offences and has been raisedG1453 for our justificationG1347, it will be reckoned.
