Romans 4

1What thenG3767 shall we sayG3004 that AbrahamG11, our forefather, hath foundG2147 accordingG2596 to the fleshG4561? 2For if AbrahamG11 was justifiedG1344 by worksG2041, he hath whereof to glory; but not toward GodG2316. 3For what saith the scriptureG1124? And AbrahamG11 believedG4100 GodG2316, and it was reckonedG3049 unto him for righteousnessG1343. 4NowG1161 to him that worketh, the rewardG3408 is not reckonedG3049 as of graceG5485, but as of debt. 5But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodlyG765, his faithG4102 is reckonedG3049 for righteousnessG1343. 6EvenG2532 as DavidG1138 alsoG2532 pronounceth blessing upon the manG444, unto whom GodG2316 reckoneth righteousnessG1343 apartG5565 from worksG2041, 7saying,

Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgivenG863,And whose sinsG266 are covered.8Blessed is the manG435 to whom the LordG2962 will not reckon sinG266.

9Is this blessing then pronounced upon the circumcisionG4061, or upon the uncircumcisionG203 alsoG2532? for we sayG3004, To AbrahamG11 his faithG4102 was reckonedG3049 for righteousnessG1343. 10HowG4459 thenG3767 wasG1510 it reckonedG3049? when he wasG1510 in circumcisionG4061, or in uncircumcisionG203? Not in circumcisionG4061, but in uncircumcisionG203: 11and he receivedG2983 the signG4592 of circumcisionG4061, a sealG4973 of the righteousnessG1343 of the faithG4102 which he had while he wasG1510 in uncircumcisionG203: that he might beG1510 the fatherG3962 of all them that believeG4100, though they beG1510 in uncircumcisionG203, that righteousnessG1343 might beG1510 reckonedG3049 unto them; 12and the fatherG3962 of circumcisionG4061 to them who not onlyG3440 are of the circumcisionG4061, but who alsoG2532 walkG4748 in the stepsG2487 of that faithG4102 of our fatherG3962 AbrahamG11 which he had in uncircumcisionG203. 13For not through the lawG3551 wasG1510 the promiseG1860 to AbrahamG11 or to his seedG4690 that he should beG1510 heirG2818 of the worldG2889, but through the righteousnessG1343 of faithG4102. 14For if they that are of the lawG3551 are heirsG2818, faithG4102 is made voidG2758, and the promiseG1860 is made of none effect: 15for the lawG3551 worketh wrathG3709; but whereG3757 there isG1510 no lawG3551, neither isG1510 there transgressionG3847. 16For this cause it isG1510 of faithG4102, that it may beG1510 accordingG2596 to graceG5485; to the end that the promiseG1860 may beG1510 sureG949 to all the seedG4690; not to that onlyG3440 which isG1510 of the lawG3551, but to that alsoG2532 which isG1510 of the faithG4102 of AbrahamG11, who isG1510 the fatherG3962 of us all 17(as it isG1510 writtenG1125, A fatherG3962 of manyG4183 nationsG1484 have I made thee) before him whom he believedG4100, evenG2532 GodG2316, who giveth lifeG2227 to the deadG3498, and calleth the thingsG4183 that areG1510 not, as though they wereG1510. 18Who in hopeG1680 believedG4100 against hopeG1680, to the end that he might becomeG1096 a fatherG3962 of manyG4183 nationsG1484, accordingG2596 to that which had beenG1510 spoken, SoG3779 shall thy seedG4690 beG1510. 19And without being weakened in faithG4102 he considered his ownG1438 bodyG4983 now as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s wombG3388; 20yet, looking unto the promiseG1860 of GodG2316, he wavered not through unbeliefG570, but waxed strong through faithG4102, givingG1325 gloryG1391 to GodG2316, 21and beingG1510 fullyG4135 assured that what he had promisedG1861, he wasG1510 ableG1415 alsoG2532 to performG4160. 22Wherefore alsoG2532 it was reckonedG3049 unto him for righteousnessG1343. 23NowG1161 it was not writtenG1125 for his sakeG1223 aloneG3441, that it was reckonedG3049 unto him; 24but for our sakeG1223 alsoG2532, unto whom it shall be reckonedG3049, who believeG4100 on him that raisedG1453 JesusG2424 our LordG2962 from the deadG3498, 25who was deliveredG3860 up for our trespassesG3900, and was raisedG1453 for our justificationG1347.
