Deuteronomy 17
Revised Version 1895
1Thou shalt notH3808 sacrificeH2076 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 an oxH7794, or a sheepH7716, whereinH834 is a blemishH3971, or anyH3605 evil-favouredness: for that is an abominationH8441 unto the LORDH3068 thy GodH430. 2IfH3588 there be foundH4672 in the midstH7130 of thee, withinH7130 anyH376 of thy gatesH8179 whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 giveth thee, manH376 or womanH802, that doeth that whichH834 is evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, in transgressing his covenantH1285, 3and hath goneH3808 and servedH5647 otherH312 godsH430, and worshipped them, or the sunH8121, or the moonH3394, or anyH3605 of the hostH6635 of heavenH8064, whichH834 I have notH3808 commandedH6680; 4and it be toldH5046 thee, and thou hast heardH8085 of it, then shalt thou inquireH1875 diligentlyH8085, and, beholdH2009, ifH2009 it be trueH571, and the thingH1697 certainH3559, that suchH2063 abominationH8441 is wrought in IsraelH3478; 5then shalt thou bringH3318 forthH3318 that manH376 or that womanH802, whichH834 have doneH6213 this evilH7451 thingH1697, unto thy gatesH8179, evenH853 the manH376 or the womanH802; and thou shalt stoneH68 them with stonesH68, that they dieH4191. 6At the mouthH6310 of twoH8147 witnessesH5707, or threeH7969 witnessesH5707, shall he that is to dieH4191 be putH4191 to deathH4191; at the mouthH6310 of one witnessH5707 he shall notH3808 be putH4191 to deathH4191. 7The handH3027 of the witnessesH5707 shall be firstH7223 uponH1961 him to putH4191 him to deathH4191, and afterwardH314 the handH3027 of allH3605 the peopleH5971. SoH1961 thou shalt putH4191 awayH3605 the evilH7451 from the midstH7130 of thee. 8IfH3588 there ariseH6965 a matterH1697 tooH4480 hardH6381 for thee in judgmentH4941, betweenH996 bloodH1818 and bloodH1818, betweenH996 pleaH7379 and pleaH7379, and betweenH996 strokeH5061 and strokeH5061, beingH430 mattersH1697 of controversyH7379 withinH996 thy gatesH8179: then shalt thou ariseH6965, and getH6965 thee upH5927 unto the placeH4725 whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 shall chooseH977; 9and thou shalt comeH935 unto the priestsH3548 the LevitesH3881, and unto the judgeH8199 that shall be in thoseH834 daysH3117: and thou shalt inquireH1875; and they shall shew thee the sentenceH4941 of judgmentH4941: 10and thou shalt doH6213 accordingH5921 to the tenor of the sentence, whichH834 they shall shew thee from that placeH4725 whichH834 the LORDH3068 shall chooseH977; and thou shalt observeH8104 to doH6213 accordingH5921 to allH3605 that they shall teachH3384 thee: 11accordingH5921 to the tenor of the lawH8451 whichH834 they shall teachH3384 thee, and accordingH5921 to the judgmentH4941 whichH834 they shall tellH5046 thee, thou shalt doH6213: thou shalt notH3808 turnH5493 asideH5493 from the sentenceH4941 whichH834 they shall shew thee, to the rightH3225 handH3225, norH3808 to the leftH8040. 12And the manH376 that doeth presumptuouslyH2087, in notH1115 hearkening unto the priestH3548 that standeth to ministerH8334 there beforeH413 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, or unto the judgeH8199, evenH853 that manH376 shall dieH4191: and thou shalt putH4191 awayH7451 the evilH7451 from IsraelH3478. 13And allH3605 the peopleH5971 shall hearH8085, and fearH3372, and doH3605 noH3808 moreH5750 presumptuouslyH2102. 14When thou art comeH935 unto the landH776 whichH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 giveth thee, and shalt possessH3423 it, and shalt dwellH3427 therein; and shalt sayH559, I will setH7760 a kingH4428 over meH413, like as allH3605 the nationsH1471 that are roundH5439 aboutH5439 meH413; 15thou shalt in anyH376 wise setH7760 him kingH4428 over thee, whomH834 the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 shall chooseH977: one from among thy brethrenH251 shalt thou setH7760 kingH4428 over thee: thou mayest notH3808 putH5414 a foreignerH5237 over thee, whichH834 is notH3808 thy brotherH251. 16OnlyH7535 he shall notH3808 multiplyH7235 horsesH5483 to himselfH3808, norH3808 causeH7725 the peopleH5971 to returnH7725 to EgyptH4714, to the end that he should multiplyH7235 horsesH5483: forasmuch as the LORDH3068 hath saidH559 unto youH7725, Ye shall henceforth returnH7725 noH3808 moreH5750 that wayH1870. 17NeitherH3808 shall he multiplyH7235 wivesH802 to himselfH3824, that his heartH3824 turnH5493 notH3808 awayH5493: neitherH3808 shall he greatlyH3966 multiplyH7235 to himselfH3824 silverH3701 and goldH2091. 18And it shall be, when he sitteth uponH5921 the throneH3678 of his kingdomH4467, that he shall writeH3789 him a copyH4932 of this lawH8451 in a bookH5612, outH6440 of that which is beforeH6440 the priestsH3548 the LevitesH3881: 19and it shall be with him, and he shall readH7121 therein allH3605 the daysH3117 of his lifeH3117: that he may learnH3925 to fearH3372 the LORDH3068 his GodH430, to keepH8104 allH3605 the wordsH1697 of this lawH8451 and theseH428 statutesH2706, to doH6213 them: 20that his heartH3824 be notH1115 liftedH7311 upH7311 aboveH5921 his brethrenH251, and that he turnH5493 notH1115 asideH5493 from the commandmentH4687, to the rightH3225 handH3225, or to the leftH8040: to the end that he may prolongH748 his daysH3117 in his kingdomH4467, he and his childrenH1121, in the midstH7130 of IsraelH3478.
