Deuteronomy 17
1Thou shalt not sacrificeH2076 unto Jehovah thy GodH430 an oxH7794, or a sheepH7716, wherein is a blemishH3971, or anything evilH7451; for that is an abominationH8441 unto Jehovah thy GodH430.
2If there be foundH4672 in the midstH7130 of thee, within any of thy gatesH8179 which Jehovah thy GodH430 giveth thee, manH376 or womanH802, that doeth that which is evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah thy GodH430, in transgressing his covenantH1285, 3and hath gone and servedH5647 otherH312 godsH430, and worshipped them, or the sunH8121, or the moonH3394, or any of the hostH6635 of heavenH8064, which I have not commandedH6680, 4and it be toldH5046 thee, and thou hast heardH8085 of it; then shalt thou inquire diligently; and, behold, if it be true, and the thingH1697 certainH3559, that such abominationH8441 is wrought in IsraelH3478, 5then shalt thou bringH3318 forthH3318 that manH376 or that womanH802, who hath done this evilH7451 thingH1697, unto thy gatesH8179, even the manH376 or the womanH802; and thou shalt stoneH68 them to deathH4191 with stonesH68. 6At the mouthH6310 of twoH8147 witnessesH5707, or threeH7969 witnessesH5707, shall he that is to dieH4191 be putH4191 to deathH4191; at the mouthH6310 of oneH259 witnessH5707 he shall not be putH4191 to deathH4191. 7The handH3027 of the witnessesH5707 shall beH1961 firstH7223 upon him to putH4191 him to deathH4191, and afterward the handH3027 of all the peopleH5971. So thou shalt putH4191 away the evilH7451 from the midstH7130 of thee.
8If there ariseH6965 a matterH1697 too hardH6381 for thee in judgmentH4941, between bloodH1818 and bloodH1818, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being mattersH1697 of controversy within thy gatesH8179; then shalt thou ariseH6965, and get thee up unto the placeH4725 which Jehovah thy GodH430 shall chooseH977; 9and thou shalt comeH935 unto the priestsH3548 the LevitesH3881, and unto the judgeH8199 that shall beH1961 in those daysH3117: and thou shalt inquire; and they shall show thee the sentenceH4941 of judgmentH4941. 10And thou shalt do according to the tenor of the sentence which they shall show thee from that placeH4725 which Jehovah shall chooseH977; and thou shalt observeH8104 to do according to all that they shall teachH3384 thee: 11according to the tenor of the lawH8451 which they shall teachH3384 thee, and according to the judgmentH4941 which they shall tellH5046 thee, thou shalt do; thou shalt not turnH5493 asideH5493 from the sentenceH4941 which they shall show thee, to the rightH3225 handH3225, nor to the left. 12And the manH376 that doeth presumptuously, in not hearkening unto the priestH3548 that standeth to minister there before Jehovah thy GodH430, or unto the judgeH8199, even that manH376 shall dieH4191: and thou shalt putH4191 away the evilH7451 from IsraelH3478. 13And all the peopleH5971 shall hearH8085, and fearH3372, and do no more presumptuouslyH2102.
14When thou art comeH935 unto the landH776 which Jehovah thy GodH430 giveth thee, and shalt possessH3423 it, and shalt dwellH3427 therein, and shalt sayH559, I will setH7760 a kingH4428 over me, like all the nationsH1471 that are roundH5439 about me; 15thou shalt surely setH7760 him kingH4428 over thee, whom Jehovah thy GodH430 shall chooseH977: oneH376 from among thy brethren shalt thou setH7760 kingH4428 over thee; thou mayest not putH5414 a foreignerH5237 over thee, who is not thy brotherH251. 16OnlyH7535 he shall not multiplyH7235 horsesH5483 to himself, nor cause the peopleH5971 to returnH7725 to EgyptH4714, to the end that he may multiplyH7235 horsesH5483; forasmuch as Jehovah hath saidH559 unto you, Ye shall henceforth returnH7725 no more that wayH1870. 17Neither shall he multiplyH7235 wives to himself, that his heartH3824 turnH5493 not awayH5493: neither shall he greatly multiplyH7235 to himself silverH3701 and goldH2091.
18And it shall beH1961, when he sitteth upon the throneH3678 of his kingdomH4467, that he shall writeH3789 him a copyH4932 of this lawH8451 in a bookH5612, out of that which isH1961 before the priestsH3548 the LevitesH3881: 19and it shall beH1961 with him, and he shall readH7121 therein all the daysH3117 of his life; that he may learnH3925 to fearH3372 Jehovah his GodH430, to keepH8104 all the wordsH1697 of this lawH8451 and these statutesH2706, to do them; 20that his heartH3824 be not liftedH7311 up above his brethren, and that he turnH5493 not asideH5493 from the commandmentH4687, to the rightH3225 handH3225, or to the left: to the end that he may prolongH748 his daysH3117 in his kingdomH4467, he and his children, in the midstH7130 of IsraelH3478.
