2 Chronicles 32

Darby Bible

1After these thingsH1697 and this faithfulnessH571, SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 cameH935 and entered into JudahH3063, and encampedH2583 against the fortifiedH1219 citiesH5892, and thought to breakH1234 into them. 2And when HezekiahH2396 sawH7200 that SennacheribH5576 was comeH935, and that he was minded to fight against JerusalemH3389, 3he took counselH3289 with his princesH8269 and his mightyH1368 menH1368 to stopH5640 the fountains of watersH4325 that were outside the cityH5892; and they helpedH5826 him. 4And there was gatheredH6908 togetherH6908 muchH7227 peopleH5971, and they stoppedH5640 all the fountains, and the torrent that flows through the midstH8432 of the landH776, sayingH559, WhyH4100 should the kingsH4428 of AssyriaH804 comeH935 and findH4672 muchH7227 waterH4325? 5And he strengthenedH2388 himself, and builtH1129 up all the wallH2346 that was brokenH6555 downH6555, and raised it up to the towersH4026, and [builtH1129] another wallH2346 outside, and fortified the MilloH4407 of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, and madeH6213 darts and shieldsH4043 in abundanceH7230. 6And he setH5414 captains of warH4421 over the peopleH5971, and assembledH6908 them to him on the openH7339 place at the gateH8179 of the cityH5892, and spokeH1696 consolingly to them sayingH559, 7Be strongH2388 and courageousH553, be not afraidH3372 nor dismayedH2865 for the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, nor for all the multitudeH1995 that is with him; for there are more with us than with him: 8with him is an armH2220 of fleshH1320, but with us is Jehovah our 1GodH430 to helpH5826 us and to fightH3898 our battlesH4421. And the peopleH5971 depended upon the wordsH1697 of HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063. 9After this, SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 sentH7971 his servantsH5650 to JerusalemH3389 (but he himself was before LachishH3923, and all his power with him), unto HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and unto all JudahH3063 that were at JerusalemH3389, sayingH559, 10ThusH3541 saysH559 SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804: On what do ye relyH982 that ye abide in the siegeH4692 in JerusalemH3389? 11Does not HezekiahH2396 persuade you, to giveH5414 yourselves over to dieH4191 by famineH7458 and by thirstH6772, sayingH559, Jehovah our 2GodH430 will deliverH5337 us out of the handH3709 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804? 12Has not the same HezekiahH2396 removedH5493 his highH1116 placesH1116 and his altarsH4196, and commanded JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389 sayingH559, Ye shall worship before oneH259 altarH4196, and burn incenseH6999 upon it? 13Do ye not knowH3045 what I and my fathersH1 have done to all the peoplesH5971 of the countries? Were the 3godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of the countries in any wise ableH3201 to deliverH5337 their country out of my handH3027? 14Who is there among all the 4godsH430 of those nationsH1471 that my fathersH1 have utterly destroyed, that was ableH3201 to deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of my handH3027, that your 5GodH430 should be ableH3201 to deliverH5337 you out of my handH3027? 15And nowH6258, let not HezekiahH2396 deceiveH5377 you, nor persuade you in this manner, neither yet believeH539 him; for no 6godH430 of any nationH1471 or kingdomH4467 was ableH3201 to deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of my handH3027, nor out of the handH3027 of my fathersH1: how much less shall your 7GodH430 deliverH5337 you out of my handH3027? 16And his servantsH5650 spokeH1696 yetH5750 more against Jehovah, the [true] 8GodH430, and against his servantH5650 HezekiahH2396. 17And he wroteH3789 a letterH5612 to rail at Jehovah the 9GodH430 of IsraelH3478, and to speak against him sayingH559, As the 10godsH430 of the nationsH1471 of the countries have not deliveredH5337 their peopleH5971 out of my handH3027, soH3651 shall not the 11GodH430 of HezekiahH2396 deliverH5337 his peopleH5971 out of my handH3027. 18And they cried with a loud voiceH6963 in the Jewish [language] to the peopleH5971 of JerusalemH3389 that were on the wallH2346, to frighten them and to trouble them; that they might takeH3920 the cityH5892. 19And they spokeH1696 of the 12GodH430 of JerusalemH3389 as of the 13godsH430 of the peoplesH5971 of the earthH776, the workH4639 of man's handH3027. 20And because of this, kingH4428 HezekiahH2396 and the prophetH5030 IsaiahH3470 the sonH1121 of AmozH531 prayedH6419 and criedH2199 to heavenH8064. 21And Jehovah sentH7971 an angelH4397, who cut off all the mightyH1368 menH1368 of valour, and the princesH8269 and the captains in the campH4264 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804. And he returnedH7725 with shameH1322 of faceH6440 to his own landH776. And when he was comeH935 into the houseH1004 of his 14godH430, they that cameH935 forthH7971 of his own bowelsH4578 made him fallH5307 there with the swordH2719. 22And Jehovah savedH3467 HezekiahH2396 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 from the handH3027 of SennacheribH5576 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and from the handH3027 of all, and protected them on every side. 23And manyH7227 broughtH935 giftsH4503 unto Jehovah to JerusalemH3389, and preciousH4030 things to HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063; and he was thenceforth magnified in the sight of all the nationsH1471. 24In those daysH3117 HezekiahH2396 was sickH2470 unto deathH4191, and he prayedH6419 to Jehovah; and he spoke to him and gaveH5414 him a signH4159. 25But HezekiahH2396 rendered not again according to the benefit [done] to him, for his heartH3820 wasH1961 lifted up; and there wasH1961 wrathH7110 upon him, and upon JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389. 26And HezekiahH2396 humbledH3665 himself for the pride of his heartH3820, he and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, so that the wrathH7110 of Jehovah cameH935 not upon them in the daysH3117 of HezekiahH2396. 27And HezekiahH2396 had veryH3966 muchH7235 richesH6239 and honour; and he madeH6213 himself treasuriesH214 for silverH3701, and for goldH2091, and for preciousH3368 stonesH68, and for spicesH1314, and for shieldsH4043, and for all manner of pleasant vesselsH3627; 28storehouses also for the increase of corn and newH8492 wineH8492 and oilH3323, and stallsH723 for all manner of beasts, and [he procured] flocksH5739 for the stallsH723. 29And he provided for himself citiesH5892, and possessionsH7399 of flocksH6629 and herdsH1241 in abundanceH7230; for 15GodH430 gaveH5414 him veryH3966 much substance. 30And he, HezekiahH2396, stoppedH5640 the upperH5945 outletH4161 of the watersH4325 of GihonH1521, and brought it straightH3474 down to the westH4628 side of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732. And HezekiahH2396 prospered in all his worksH4639. 31However in [the matter of] the ambassadors of the princesH8269 of BabylonH894, who sentH7971 to him to inquire of the wonderH4159 that wasH1961 done in the landH776, 16GodH430 leftH5800 him, to try him, that he might knowH3045 all [that wasH1961] in his heartH3824. 32And the restH3499 of the acts of HezekiahH2396 and his good deeds, behold, they are writtenH3789 in the visionH2377 of the prophetH5030 IsaiahH3470 the sonH1121 of AmozH531 in the bookH5612 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 and IsraelH3478. 33And HezekiahH2396 slept with his fathersH1, and they buriedH6912 him in the highest placeH8478 of the sepulchres of the sonsH1121 of DavidH1732; and all JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 did him honour at his deathH4194. And ManassehH4519 his sonH1121 reignedH4427 in his stead.
