2 Chronicles 13

Darby Bible

1In the eighteenth yearH8141 of kingH4428 JeroboamH3379 began AbijahH29 to reignH4427 over JudahH3063. 2He reignedH4427 threeH7969 yearsH8141 in JerusalemH3389; and his mother's nameH8034 was Michaiah, the daughterH1323 of UrielH222 of GibeahH1390. And there was warH4421 between AbijahH29 and JeroboamH3379. 3And AbijahH29 began the warH4421 with an armyH2428 of menH376 of warH4421, fourH702 hundredH3967 thousandH505 chosen menH376; and JeroboamH3379 set the battleH4421 in array against him with eightH8083 hundredH3967 thousandH505 chosen menH376, mightyH1368 menH376 of valour. 4And AbijahH29 stoodH6965 up on the top of mount ZemaraimH6787, which is in mount EphraimH669, and saidH559, HearH8085 me, JeroboamH3379, and all IsraelH3478! 5Ought ye not to knowH3045 that Jehovah the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478 gaveH5414 the kingdomH4467 over IsraelH3478 to DavidH1732 for everH5769, to him and to his sonsH1121 [by] a covenantH1285 of saltH4417? 6But JeroboamH3379 the sonH1121 of NebatH5028, the servantH5650 of SolomonH8010 the sonH1121 of DavidH1732, roseH6965 up and rebelledH4775 against his lordH113. 7And vain menH376, sonsH1121 of Belial, gatheredH6908 to him and strengthenedH2388 themselves against RehoboamH7346 the sonH1121 of SolomonH8010, and RehoboamH7346 wasH1961 youngH5288 and faint-hearted, and did not shew himself strongH2388 against them. 8And nowH6258 ye think to shew yourselves strongH2388 against the kingdomH4467 of Jehovah in the handH3027 of the sonsH1121 of DavidH1732; and ye are a greatH7227 multitudeH1995, and ye have with you the golden calvesH5695 that JeroboamH3379 madeH6213 you for 2godsH430. 9Have ye not cast out the priestsH3548 of Jehovah, the sonsH1121 of AaronH175, and the LevitesH3881, and madeH6213 you priestsH3548 as the peoplesH5971 of the landsH776? whoever comesH935 to consecrate himself with a youngH1121 bullock and sevenH7651 ramsH352, he becomesH1961 a priestH3548 of what is not 3GodH430. 10But as for us, Jehovah is our 4GodH430, and we have not forsaken him; and the priestsH3548 that serveH8334 Jehovah are the sonsH1121 of AaronH175, and the LevitesH3881 are at their workH4399: 11and they burn to Jehovah every morningH1242 and every eveningH6153 burnt-offerings and sweet incenseH7004; the loaves also are set in order upon the pureH2889 tableH7979; and the candlestick of goldH2091 with its lampsH5216 to burn every eveningH6153: for we keepH8104 the chargeH4931 of Jehovah our 5GodH430; but ye have forsaken him. 12And behold, we have 6GodH430 with us at our headH7218, and his priestsH3548, and the loud-sounding trumpetsH2689 to soundH7321 an alarmH8643 against you. ChildrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, do not fightH3898 with Jehovah the 7GodH430 of your fathersH1; for ye shall not prosperH6743. 13But JeroboamH3379 caused an ambushH3993 to comeH935 about behind them; and they wereH1961 before JudahH3063, and the ambushH3993 behind them. 14And JudahH3063 looked backH268, and behold, they had the battleH4421 in front and behind; and they criedH6817 to Jehovah, and the priestsH3548 sounded with the trumpetsH2689. 15And the menH376 of JudahH3063 gaveH7321 a shoutH7321; and as the menH376 of JudahH3063 shoutedH7321, it came to pass that 8GodH430 smote JeroboamH3379 and all IsraelH3478 before AbijahH29 and JudahH3063. 16And the children of IsraelH3478 fledH5127 before JudahH3063; and 9GodH430 delivered them into their handH3027. 17And AbijahH29 and his peopleH5971 slew them with a greatH7227 slaughterH4347; and there fellH5307 downH5221 slain of IsraelH3478 fiveH2568 hundredH3967 thousandH505 chosen menH376. 18And the children of IsraelH3478 were humbledH3665 at that timeH6256, and the children of JudahH3063 were strengthenedH553, because they relied upon Jehovah the 10GodH430 of their fathersH1. 19And AbijahH29 pursuedH7291 after JeroboamH3379, and tookH3920 citiesH5892 from him: Bethel with its dependent villages, and JeshanahH3466 with its dependent villages, and EphronH6085 with its dependent villages. 20And JeroboamH3379 did not recover strengthH3581 againH5750 in the daysH3117 of AbijahH29; and Jehovah smote him, and he diedH4191. 21But AbijahH29 strengthenedH2388 himself, and tookH5375 fourteen wivesH802, and begot twenty-two sonsH1121 and sixteen daughtersH1323. 22And the restH3499 of the acts of AbijahH29, and his waysH1870 and his sayings, are writtenH3789 in the treatise of the prophetH5030 IddoH5714.
